If people in the US would travel to other countries to see what people are really like and how genuine they are, they would realize how messed up we are in the US. I totally agree. I spent 9 months in the E.U. specifically staying away from the tourist areas. The people were so cordial, inviting, generous. I was completely surprised. They are so far advanced in their social services, infrastructure, etc.

Been to the US once (I'm European). On entry, got my fingerprints taken. Very rude, guy iin the booth barking commands at me, quite unpleasant. Been to the US once (I'm European). On entry, got my fingerprints taken. Very rude, guy iin the booth barking commands at me, quite unpleasant. On the way back I was padded down by an older man who could have been my dad agewise. He was so polite that it made me feel uncomfortable too. The culture gap is stark.

I live in Norman Rockwell country. And while yes, you greet a person you pass on the sidewalk and we have what you'd call free range children who walk themselves to school then go to the library across the street or the playground until their parents pick them up. But there's still this low class Jerry Springer type element in this country that makes me bummed out I didn't leave when my children were children. I have family in Sweden. Two of whom I met in person when they came over here to get their 2nd degrees at BU, their 1st on was paid for with the taxes their parents had paid.

Just in case, as a little insurance never hurts. And even if our politics should improve, your kids may eventually want to attend university in the EU.
