Having Himalayan Range to the north, Western Ghats to the west running parallel to the Arabian sea (also known as Sahyadri mountain range) and Eastern ghats along the eastern part.. These mountains are the reason India is gifted with seasonal rains, which produces many rivers which flow down towards the sea....

Hima = snow, Alaya = abode, temple. Together the two make the word " Himaalaya" that means abode of snow. This range & Karakorum (for a good measure) range, make up the loftiest mountain chain in the world, like nowhere else.
The loftiest, above 8000 meters in altitude (above the mean sea level) are 14 peaks called "Eight thousanders" - 8 in Himalayas & 6 in Karakorum ranges.
The first is Everest (Himalayas) at 8848 m (= 29,021 feet), followed by K2 (Karakorum) at 8611 m. (= 28,244 '). There are about 192 peaks higher than 7000 m (= 22,960 '), but less than an Eight thousander.
Outside Asia (beyond the ranges - Himalayas, Karakorum, Hindukush, Kun lun & Tien shan - all meeting in the Pamirs knot), "Aconcagua" in Andes, is the highest and ranks 223 (not even a "Seven thousander", falling short by only 39 m)
I took these statistics from my own list that I made - of mountain peaks. My list of "six thousand" meters (= 19,680 ') & above has 1015 entries, of which 103 are in "Andes" and only one in North America - "Denali" (Mt McKinley) at 6190.5 m (20,305 ') in altitude, ranking 806. Africa's Kilman'jaro (not in my list) falls short of "six thousander", by 105 m. None in Europe reaches "five thousand" (= 16,400 ') mark even.
People can't live beyond some 4500 m. (= 14,760 '). In Tibet flat land, at about this elevation, there is sparse population. Above 3000 m, troubles start for humans (except Tibetans) & animals (except some like Yaks who live there) alike as the air is rarer & one needs to breathe more volume of of air, straining lungs. Machines (mobikes & cars) too don't work, while ordinary aircraft can't take off nor land. Air pressure (at MSL it is 14 pounds weight on a square inch), drops by a third at 6000 m,. Much before reaching Everest, it is only half. The youngest to reach Everest summit is a 14 year girl "Poorna" (yes I share the name) from a place near Hyderabad.
Next time, I wish you cover a peak (in 5000m +) while climbing and we see you on a "video".
