I was fine with Sydney being like "You know what, this keep happening, it's gonna keep happening, I'm sitting this one out I'm 50" honestly I feel like at a certain point, her continuing to show up doesn't make sense. But I 1 billion percent agree, pay Neve Campbell what she asks for.
i thought the idea was that the character was faking a terrible southern accent to make people think he was stupid and not a threat. But no, Daniel Craig is going the way of Tom Hanks in terms of ruining movies with silly accents.
@@emhullum4120 gonna be honest the fact the accent isn't great frankly endears the character to me more. Feels like a poirot novel or a miss marple character
I LOVED THE BOYFRIEND! He was the most mentally stable man ever in a horror. Oh you are traumatized and need space and time COOL. I am here for that. No yelling no gaslighting just trust and time. ❤
@@BrettAlanActor he was very memorable in that he's the only person in a horror movie that actually UNDERSTANDS the fact his girlfriend is in a very traumatizing situation and doesnt complain about her caution/distrust
I was so heartbroken for Anika, but I really would love to see Devyn Nekoda in more horror/thriller roles cuz baybeee she has major scream queen potential.
I wish Gale had killed the Ghostface that attacked her. It would have changed up the story beats instead of always having all killers unmask themselves at the end.
Once you study medicine, you are always like “how are these people not only surviving perforated bowels and pneumothoraxes but getting up and fighting with these injuries?”
If I had a nickel for every time there was a piece of media starring Skeet Ulrich that had a character who inherited the “serial killer gene” I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice right?
I think my favorite part was where Chad actually had the idea to USE THE HEAVY OBJECTS AROUND HIM AS WEAPONS AND KEEP THEM like that’s what I’m always pointing out, like in Gale’s scene I spent so long being like “USE THE LAMP FOR GODS SAKE GALE” so watching him use the camera AND the popcorn machine as weapons was so satisfying
The actor for Quinn also added a very interesting detail in an interview that would’ve made Ethan and Bailey more psychotic than what we saw. That apparently Richie’s mom was gonna be a part of the movie but she didn’t want to go with her husbands plan of killing Sam so Bailey had Ethan help him kill their mom/wife which is fuckin insane to me. Now they never said if this idea will be true or they just ignore that and have the mom still be alive but that was a very interesting detail that would’ve had them on the same level of psycho as Jill who shrugged off killing her mom as if it were nothing.
@@moxiemaxie3543 yup they just hate the mothers lmao. Sidney’s mother gutted, Billy’s mom ended up being a killer, Kate Roberts killed by her own daughter, and Sam’s mom is a piece of shit💀. The only mother who is absolutely amazing in this franchise is Sidney since she is now a mother and I would love to have her as a mom.
@@BrandonJames2016 I feel like an ass, but I'd be down for her to finally die, giving us that shock, and really pushing the franchise away from her to continue the story without needing to hold her connection.. but it'd also be a nice subversion to keep her alive, and just.. never talk about her again? Which is still off?
The bodega scene was one of my faves. The amount of times I’ve walked into a deli with people because I thought someone was following me. Being in a crowd makes you feel safer. And then he just didnt give a single fuck 😭😭 the scream movies really hit the “nowhere is safe” mark.
they're really turning around the male characters in these, either they're the killer, an ass hole or cannon fodder. but Chad and "Cute Boy" are refreshing
WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE SCARY MOVIE and why is it SCREAM 1? Give me your SCREAM rankings. CLARIFYING - I agree that Sidney deserves a happy ending to never be stabbed again in her life. I guess I just didn't like that they said she was aware of what was happening and not coming because they originally wanted her in the movie. I'm totally fine with these movies moving on and trying new things with new characters because over reliance on legacy stuff shoots so many franchises in the foot. Looking at you, Star Wars. ALSO MY BAD! - They weren't wearing the masks they were dropping
actually a fun twist on Scream 3 (since the fandom collectively hates it for that STUPID VOICE CHANGER THAT MAKES NO FCKING SENSE) would be having the mother of Sam and Tara be the killer OR Tara's father. It would be a twist on the long lost family member thing since the mother and father is basically out of both their lives-the mother cut Sam off and Tara cut the mother off for cutting Sam off. At the core, Scream is about family drama's not being resolved that lead to MORE problems for the innocent ones later down the road-both Sidney and Sam have to deal with their mothers causing them problems. It would be a fun counter to Scream 3 then to have the family issue BE resolved, so that way the NEXT trilogy could be on someone new.
@@AceHufflepuff I can see Christina Carpenter for the reasons you mentioned & because she knows that Tara will always be in danger as long as she's with Sam because she the main target. So she might think if she kills Sam, Tara will be safe once & for all. Would be interesting to watch how she butchers everyone who comes in her way, but avoids injuring Tara.
I actually think it'd be cool if Sam starts to believe that she IS Billy and become one of the killers but not until halfway through the movie so the real Ghostfaces have no idea what's going on. It'd be something else to see them trying to evade Sam the way Sam and Sidney usually have to evade Ghostface.
I went to see this while cosplaying as Randy Meeks. My theater staff loved my costume so much they gave me a leftover fan event poster for the movie FOR FREE. Definitely my favorite theater experience.
That lowkey could be a terrifying concept for psychological horror. Like, you've collectively experienced this trauma but is that really friendship? Especially when the trauma you bonded over is that you can't REALLY trust anyone.
the directors revealed that originally the killers were online conspiracy theorists trying to get sam to admit or something along those lines, i prefer that motivation compared to the one we got, i did the biggest eye roll in the theatre when they said who they were
Yeah that would’ve made more sense. I think they tried to pull a Scream 2, where Billy’s mom got revenge. But idk, something about the dad’s performance seemed weak. I didn’t buy it.
Honestly, they should've done both. Have the killer be the dad and the online conspiracy theorist who gets duped by him. The theorist could even be his other kid.
thats what i was expecting going in. i thought they would basically revive scream 3's original plot and have there be multiple ghostfaces with stu being the mastermind
I think they made their point, with a successful film with no Sidney in it. The right amount, I would guess, will fall between what was offered and what she asked for.
@@Tenn80 I find it better than 5 so yeah. And besides, I’d like the Carpenter sisters to take over the franchise for a bit with Sydney doing some cameos on it.
I personally loved the sequence in the deli where Ghostface is attacking Sam and Tara. I don't believe Ghostface has ever targeted random people and in such a public area either, so I felt a false sense of security when our two protags found refuge in there, only to have that ripped away from me when he just started upping the body count with complete randos. Probably the scariest Ghostface has been since Scream 4.
This was my first theatre experience with a SCREAM movie, as well as the first time I went into one without knowing the killer. I surprisingly liked it. I liked the chemistry the core four had, especially between the main sisters, and Ghostface was a straight up MENACE. I felt so bad for the one bodega guy who got stabbed three times then punched in the face. End killer reveal couldve been better tough.
Yeah Act III is where the movie falls apart for me. But the first 2/3 of the film were solid enough for me. I still prefer 5CREAM, but the Core Four are my new favorite crew.
it was the first theatre experience for me with a Scream film as well, and i agree with basically everything you just said. the tense moments had other people around gasping and jumping in their seats which was fun
I saw Scream VI opening night and it was such a fun movie to watch in the theaters. Over the last year I've gotten my teenage daughter hooked on the Scream franchise and going to see this movie together was a really cool experience. She called it from the start, as soon as we met all the new characters she said to me "I don't like Quinn, something's off."
I also experienced Scream VI opening night and it was my first Scream film that I saw on a big screen too! I'm jealous of your theater vibe. The group I went with and I had a lot of fun but it seemed like the rest of the people there were just not as into it, it was just not as interactive as I anticipated but I loved the movie & I'm impressed that your daughter correctly guessed Quinn--I was fooled by her "death." I guessed Detective Bailey but only because Dermot is too big of a name to not be pivotal to the climax (imo), but I wasn't like piecing clues together lol, lucky, educated guess for me!
I knew it had to be Quinn, too. One of the Ghostfaces mentioned something that was only said to the group of suspects. Quinn was the daughter of a cop and made it clear that her dad was willing to tell her things about cases that he shouldn’t be telling her about. And my suspicions were basically totally confirmed when the therapist got attacked. The only people who could’ve possibly known who Sam’s therapist was, at that point, were Quinn’s dad and, through him, Quinn. And when Quinn “died”, I just thought the dad had to be in on it. And then at the final confrontation when we see the two Ghostfaces and the dad in the same place, I was like “Oh, they did say that franchises have to be bigger and better, so what if there’s three Ghostfaces now?” the instant before he shot FBI girl. I really loved this movie, way more than I thought I would.
I actually liked Sam very much in this movie, she is just in a very hard place which is replacing Sidney and also act with current horror darling Jenna Ortega
Ethan was the only real surprise for me in the reveal. Knew it was the cop when literally two seconds after Sam names her therapist as her alibi ONLY TO HIM, therapist dies, and you said it yourself: We never saw Quinn die and they keep that apartment locked down.
Lol Dewey was stabbed once in the back in S1. In S2 they stabbed him in old scar tissue. Dewey surviving was way more believable than the stabs that Chad had to endure...
Interesting. I honestly thought they’re trying to pitch Kirby as the new Dewey. As soon as they kill off the lovable and well meaning but also kind of incompetent enforcer of the law, they introduce Kirby a lovable and well meaning but also kind of incompetent enforcer of the law.
This movie is going the Fast and the Furious route with the ‘family’ motif. Kirby’s line cemented it for me, especially since she was dressed like she belonged in those films 😆 mark my words, Scream in Space 2032 will be a thing
Depends on what happens after VII. I don't know if they have another trilogy or stand-alone planned after that. They might reboot the franchise after VII.
I was really excited when I thought they were revealing the killer after the first killer. It would’ve been such a break from formula and, like you said, it would’ve made it so much more tense.
Not really cause WE know the killer is Jason. But there's nothing more frustrating as a viewer when WE know something but the characters don't. It just makes them seem stupid. I think the only time that worked is lion king because Simba was a cub and didn't know any better. Scar was seen as charismatic and charming so you can understand why the pride would believe his story. Part of Scream is the whodunit and a scene breaking down the tropes and rules wouldn't work a character like Mindy wouldn't work if Jason is right there. Now, I think what would've been BETTER is they let GREG live. That could've been any Rando in the fridge. How fascinating would THAT be? Have the killer be in plain sight but no one not even us know it. Have us keep thinking "wait he mentioned a Greg....nooooo" the entire film.
@@AceHufflepuff It doesn't make the characters look stupid, it makes the audience nervous with Dramatic Irony. We have information that they don't know about, so we would get worried of them were ever left alone with Jason; you'd want to yell at the screen to help them out, but you'd be helpless to do anything.
I wish it was a relative of Stu who came to attack Sam because she is related to Billy- their motive could be that they blame Billy for maybe brainwashing Stu and they wanted revenge on Sam for something her dad did like, idk like why not? I hope maybe that’s next movie and their motive to kill Sam is more justified because of her “serial killer gene” so they feel like not only are they getting revenge for their Stu but also saving everybody else from a Billy 2.0
This could’ve happened in 5. Vince being Stu’s nephew could’ve been a great red herring if not a killer. Instead they kill him off with 3 minutes of screen time and don’t even reveal his relation to Stu until AFTER his death. These writers…. smh.
I was kind of hoping it would be a cult of Ghostface type of thing, and maybe Jill leading it. She had the charisma to, and she was never actually shot in the head
Yes! They kept pushing the “I’m different” line from the killers. It would’ve been different having a cult of them all chanting in the final act together: I’M DIFFERENT. And then they could be headed by someone like Tara and Sam’s mom or Tara’s dad as someone else said above. I’d prefer the mom though, as she has more reason to go after Sam and Tara. The cult could obviously still include Richie’s family, and maybe a few other people who are related to past killers.
Maybe they’re trying to keep it more up in the air in case Ortega’s career gets too big. She might end up stuck on a bigger project with schedule overlaps or she might ask for too much money.
I really enjoyed this movie I had a lot of fun. I was actually scared of ghostface for once instead of just being excited to see them. This time ghostface just felt more menacing and I could feel the anger coming off of them.
I think scream 6 was a huge improvement from 5, but I miss the simplicity of the older films. The only two that really feel realistic are 1 and 4. The rest seem a bit too larger than life.
It's especially weird that Billy has clearly aged to what he would be in real time (no matter how hard they try to make him look younger) and wearing the shirt covered in blood he died in. Sure. I don't get who they're serving either.
ummm WHO WOULDN'T want to see Skeet Ulrich again? He killed it in Scream 5 lol had some of the best lines. And they def dialed it back here to like 1 or 2 moments.
I agree, it’s obvious the actor has aged but I’m just thankful they didn’t CG his face. I find that a bit hit or miss. I just assume Sam is seeing the version of her father that makes the most sense to her. She’s imagining an older man because technically it’s her dad, but also can’t shake what he’s done. So she still sees him in his bloody white tshirt uniform. Probably how he looked in police reports because that’s what he died in.
Aside from some very on-the-nose dialogue, I absolutely loved this movie throughout - it was everything I'd ever wanted from a Scream movie... Until the killer reveal. By the gods, that was a grave disappointment. At least we did get some really badass Tara and Sam moments at the end that kinda saved it for me, but everything about the killers and their motives undermine so much of what was great about all the moments leading up to it.
I called it from the start that there would be three killers, so i was super excited for the final reveal- but the family trope/secret sibling kind of killed it for me…
Also, am i the only one who found it weird that the writers went out of their way to give Tara asthma and highlight it in multiple scenes where she uses an inhaler, but then like didn’t incorporate it into the plot at all??? Like i was watching the movie just dying to see a scene where shes choking on the floor and reaching for the inhaler as ghostface kicks it away or something to that effect… but they completely ignored it for no reason?? Whats the point of character flaws and weaknesses if theyre never used against them (or even addressed at all)?
My favourite thing about horror franchises when they get this far in, is everyone has their own tastes. One movie someone hates someone will love, goes both ways too.
For the longest time I thought I was the only person who really, really enjoyed Scream 4, but after watching your video I'm glad that there's another fan out there 😂
Agreed one of the core 4 should have died. I was pissed that only secondary characters died. I was hoping Sam would die for Tara to be the new final girl. Knew it wasn’t Kirby because she’s too short. Love what someone else said about gale killing get ghost face (laughed so hard when she put them on hold) and as she pulls off the hood to see who it is we cut to the final showdown with the remaining two who are even angrier now and make rash decisions which is how the girls win. We friend and I are wondering if Sam and Tara’s mum is going to be a player in the final one. Like she was obsessed with billy and we haven’t met her yet.
10:36 your building into the full spoilers is what makes me like your videos over other channels'. Like, you're making the movie explanation an experience in its own right. Love that
@@AmandaTheJedi oh yeah, I definitely do agree that the killer reveal could’ve been way better executed. It probably could’ve made what they were going for way better.
@@AmandaTheJedi Complete accurate take - killer reveal (2nd one, as the first one in the opening sequence was a twist) was underwhelming but having 3 killers and it making logical sense was worth it
Thank you so much! I love 1&4 too. I completely agree, I felt so broken by Scream 5. I felt like they took away what was different about Scream. It's about the OG's surviving all the various Ghostfaces and they subverted it and turned in to just another slasher, with soap opera bad ghost visions. I hated how they attacked the franchise. I felt done with Scream. Your assessment of 5 was so refreshing because I shared your bewilderment. I was not going to see 6 but now I'll wait for streaming and keep my expectations in check. Thanks again!!
After 5cream I made a joke to my uncle that 6 would have 3 killers to play with the fact that 3 only had one... I didn't think it would actually happen 😂
Maybe I'm desensitized from Chucky but I never found the past killers' masks at the crime scenes to be weird- especially after the shrine, all it means is at least one of the killers is rich and obsessed with Stab. True crime evidence like that is an obvious target for collectors that an unscrupulous detective could have easily pinched and sold off after the movies made the case famous.
Took my niece tonight (she's 17 and her birthday) to go see it and she loved it! I'm honored to say that I've inspired her to be a horror fan and inspired her to want to be a filmmaker. I’m not going to take all the credit. I solely showed her horror movies that I enjoyed as a kid and she gravitated toward them. So the filmmakers and crew are deserving of that credit. She reminds me of my young self.
I wont lie, I totally buy into the Stu is a secret ghostface killer and will be revealed in the next movie. It makes so much more sense that he was the one that killed Dewey and was after Gale. He has been using the current ghostfaces as a *mask* to make people think the people he is going after are being killed by the current ghostfaces. Its up in the air if he has been manipulating people to become ghostfaces or is just seizing opportunities, but Im all for him being a secret killer the whole time. His next target in 7 will be Sidney. I feel like they are basically telegraphing this twist by having The Dewey and Gale ghostfaces not logically match who was trying to kill them. Both movies imply it was the super tiny girl characters that did it, and there is no way
What I love about the Radio Silence Scream movies, is they somehow know the way to balance the Legacy Characters with the new crew. So many other franchises either rely too heavily on their legacy only to ruin it, or try and use their legacy characters to save the IP that is slowly losing everyone's respect. Radio Silence however, manages to respect both parties. Not to mention, their depiction of Ghostface is amazing, and I think part of why he's such a scary villain, is not only does he physically hurt you, but he gets in your head. Scream 5 did this very well. "Really? You can't even save your own sister? All you have to do is say "Kill Richie!" or all you have to do is say "kill Tara!" and I'll make sure to hit all the organs I missed last time." Everyone talks so much smack about what they would do if Ghostface made a fated phone call to them, but so many people fail to understand that he doesn't just call before the attack. He calls after to mess with you too. I really loved Scream 6. I thought the characters were all good, Sam wasn't outshone by Tara this time around. And I love that the group has a nickname now lol. And the kills especially Anika were just downright BRUTAL. It really doesn't take much to get fcked up by a knife when you think about it. The movie does a great job in playing with the idea of how fast conspiracy theories can spread, and I love that they don't make Sam this goody goody final girl that Sidney is; whereas Sidney only killed to live it looks like Sam ENJOYS taking the lives of those who come for her and her family. I would really love to see Scream 7 play with the idea of her becoming like a vigilante Ghostface, and we know this is possible, because of Ghostface's first call to Sam "you should be thanking me, they were going to kill you and your sister, but I prevented that from happening." and then that evil chuckle ohhhhh MAN. Roger Jackson always kills it as Ghostface. He actually laughed/chuckled a lot more in this movie than in others I've noticed. And it just adds so much to the character of Ghostface. Also imagine if movie 7 took place during Sam's wedding to Danny that would be incredible. So many victims for Ghostface, and so many suspects to be Ghostface. Oh my god I'm so sorry for the essay but I REALLY, REALLY love this entire franchise. The only bad movie imo is movie 3. They're just crushing it with these new movies. I'm REALLY looking forward to how they conclude this trilogy. I'd like to see Sam fully lean into her family history. She should really get back out there, find out who the killer is, and along the way, CUT. SOME FCKING THROATS.
I thought they really dealt with Sam’s inner demons fine last time. The fact that she’s STILL (stupidly) seeing Billy hallucinations is just… silly. Are we REALLY gonna keep harping on the suggestion that anyone with violence in their family history is DESTINED to be violent too? *Really*? In 2023…?! Well… i guess we are, based on how this film ends. If you’re a psycho killer, so is every single sibling or parent to share your blood according to NuScream.
@@RappingNinja I thought it was kinda OBVIOUS why she's seeing him again-the killings triggered her. Like you talk about how "Are we REALLY gonna keep harping on the suggestion that anyone with violence in their family history is DESTINED to be violent too? *Really*? In 2023…?!" but seemingly also fail to realize that in terms of mental health people can relapse. She was TRYING to see a therapist but that therapist wasn't exactly GOOD at his job. And no, the movie isn't SUGGESTING that anyone with a violent family history will be violent. It's quite literally saying we all have that darkness in us. And if you say you don't you're lying. I'm someone who's been told I'm super sweet and nice. But people are always surprised at how sassy I can be, and how quickly I can be MEAN when the time calls for it. I've 100% come to terms with the fact that if anyone came at me with intent to kill/harm their life is forfeit. And I'll fckin ENJOY taking a sob like that out. I'm not gonna feel SORRY about killing someone who was gonna kill me. Speaking of which... Sam is different from Sidney in that Sidney didn't really enjoy killing to survive she just did it to survive. Sam on the other hand, ENJOYS taking vengeance on those who mess with her but she doesn't GO OUT looking to kill people. And the movie ends with her leaving the past behind. Hence why she dropped her father's mask vs keeping it. She never outright ACCEPTED her past in movie 5. Remember she asked Sidney "Can I ask a weird question?....Am I gonna be okay?" and Sidney replies "Eventually." Key word there. EVENTUALLY. This typa sht isn't gonna be fixed overnight. Hell a YEAR went by and Sam was still struggling. What did you expect?
11:19 well I think it was to set up Sam’s alibi. She was talking to her therapist while the first 2 kills were going on near the campus Other thing, is this the first scream movie where no legacy character dies? When thinking about it that way, Expectations subverted??? 👍 I really did think it was the end for gale tho when I was yelling “double tap” and she got her stomach pierced >.
You’re not crazy Scream 5 was garbage, I hated it, I was actually embarrassed for the people who made it, it was so bad. I don’t know what everyone else likes about it.
Personally, I think if they are rebooting the other Scream plot lines, in Scream 3, it was Sydney's half-sibling. So in Scream 7, it would be half-siblings like Sam and Tara are.
my problem with this story is the lack of characters tbh. i feel like we could’ve had maybe 2 more friends in the group, possibly a reporter, another cop, or even gales boyfriend as a suspect before his death. just more characters because there really wasn’t a lot of options, but i still enjoyed the film a lot.
Let me just say for anyone using the subway, if you get separated from your group on the train, the people who got on the train are supposed to get off and wait at the next stop so you can meet them there once you get on the next train.
I’m with you on scream 4 being stupidly underrated. I feel like 5 and 6 tried to do a similar concept but worse, combined with Jill roberts being the best ghost face and having the most central role like Billy and Stu. Granted Jill Roberts would be lands slide the best if they would have ended it 10 minutes earlier, plus she was completely unexpected but a main character. The only other movie I didn’t know the killer is scream 3 but I didn’t know who he was even after the reveal because it didn’t make sense and bad writing. Billy loomes is a very close second to Jill because her partner was literally her lapdog. Plus we got Kirby who is the best randy like character easily.
I hated the Sydney throw away line. It would have been one thing if Neve Campbell just didn't want to come back and wanted to move on from the franchise herself but when you consider she was essentially forced out, that line was just insulting. I'm not normally hard on movies. I'm happy to suspend belief when necessary but they wanted you to watch this movie like you're braindead and I couldn't do it. I ended up hating it, lol. I'm glad there was stuff in it for others to enjoy. I am tired of hearing how this is "the most brutal Ghostface we've ever seen". I don't agree considering the majority of the people they went after in this film didn't even die but okay. And the NY setting was pointless. Aside from the train sequence, any other scene in this movie could have taken place literally anywhere else.
I will say there was a lot of pizazz to the killing and more visceral in a lot of ways, so I'll let them have the 'More Brutal', but there was a lot less weight when people survived so easily. Mindy running around after a double gut stab was particularly impressive. But thanks for understanding what I mean about the Sidney throw away line! It's not that I feel like she NEEDED to be in the movie, it's that they wouldn't pay her and just said she knew what was happening but not coming.
@@AmandaTheJedi I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the Sydney reference. I will say my bf and I got a good laugh when Mindy was slashed in the arm and acted like she was in more pain than her girlfriend who was borderline gutted. The overall unevenness of the acting and the tension was what really did me in. I didn't expect anyone of importance to die in this movie and I was unfortunately right. Dermot Mulroney was acting like he was in a Scooby Doo mystery. And we don't refer to them as The Core Four. They're Cardboard Cutout & Co in this house. I'm open to watching the next installment but I can take it or leave it at this point.
@@AmandaTheJedi They had that issue with the 5th one, too. The not killing off characters that, believably, should be dead. Mindy and Chad should have both been dead this movie (and in the 5th one honestly) and they survived because of plot armor. It really takes out the tension. And if they ever do decide to kill them off, it’ll make me wonder, what made this stomach stab different than the multiple stomach stabs from two different people in the 6th movie?
@@AmandaTheJedi I didn't hate that Sidney stayed away. She had essentially made that decision not to get involved back in the last movie and only changed her mind on account of Dewey getting killed. But yeah, they definitely should have paid Neve whatever she wanted.
The original Scream is a horror classic to me (I rented it from Blockbuster to show friends back in the day) I've been up and down in the series since the first, this was more brutal but it wasn't remarkable or noteworthy to me, but I love the cast Jenna and Jasmin always make me smile. Great video, enjoy and be kind to each other.
I definitely liked this one a lot better than Scream 5. For one thing, the whole main character being tempted by the darkness of her father thing was done more effectively here. I also LOVED the opening! I will say though that the biggest problem is that it lacks believability that with all the cameras in Manhattan that anyone could sneak around like this. Also, after the killings in the corner shop, the NYPD would assign a whole task force, not just one detective. As much as I do like the character of Kirby and am glad that they pseudo-retconned her being killed, she doesn't come off very believable as an FBI agent. I've met FBI agents and she doesn't talk or carry herself like one. Overall: the pacing, the characters, the set-pieces, and the writing make this a recommend from me and a big improvement from Scream 5. I'd kinda like to see a scream movie where we see who the killer is from the beginning, and we spend the whole movie with them. MAke them a 3 dimensional character almost like Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer. I would also like them to really lean into the whodunnit aspect in a future installment. Find a really talented mystery writer to assist.
one thing that makes the Billy hallucinations even worse is how BAD THEY LOOK (18:34).The de aging effect makes the actor look like a badly rendered Sim.
I loved when Gale put GF on hold, and he’s just like “Huh?” Then she *69d his ass 😂. I actually disagree though. I would have liked for her to go out fighting. I think that was a perfect setup for her death. I started tearing up when she said “Tell Sydney he never got me.” 😭. It was perfect. And she would have been reunited with Dewey in a way. And that leaves Sydney as the ultimate survivor.
Concisive and passionate. If they make a next installment (and they will), genuinely hope they hire you as a consultant! Speaking of campy slasher fun, did you happen to watch '96 Uncle Sam - I want you dead? The VHS cover and it's tone didn't advertise it as a comedy, was laughing my azz off;o) Favourite Franchise: The Warlock Trilogy (2/3). Cheers
I really thought that after the first kill we getting a "howcatchem". A movie where we knew who the killer/s were but the characters didn't and I got so HYPED because I just want this to go back to being unpredictable via making you disregard the obvious suspect. The disappointment and boredom I felt afterwards was crushing. Especially when I knew who the killers were almost immediately and that a character wasn't going to die because of what happened in the last film
I've been a Scream fan since 1996 when I was just 9 years old. This franchise is dear to me and I've loved every movie so far. I appreciate the consistency in crafting a well-rounded movie for the fans. I watched and loved Scream 4 on opening night. I'm glad more people are starting to appreciate it nowadays. I’m loving what Radio Silence is doing with the franchise and I love Scream 5 and Scream 6. Hopefully, Scream 7 will win you over.
When my cousin and I watched Scream 6 a couple weeks ago, we were in Virginia. We ended up sitting next to some family members of Jack Champion (aunt and cousin, I believe) -- only found out after the movie. Wild!
I had forgotten you were super into scream 4 somehow. Scream 4 is also one of my favorites, one of my top 3 of all time honestly. It’s awesome to see someone else love and be passionate about this franchise 🥰
I did love the tension in the train scene! However, as a New Yorker, we're extremely vigilant community with a 'keep to yourself, but step up otherwise' culture and so, most folks would notice if someone was being stabbed in an extremely crowded subway car.
Love how you explained how you made the connections to the eventual reveal of the killers and the family connections at the the mid point of the film 🤣 completely went over my head, I was just happy to be there watching 🤣
My problem with main 4, is that they are the friend group. Like with original 3, gale and dewey are more like parental figures then sids friends, and sid has her new friend group, the potential pool of suspects ghostie can be put into. With this one, because theyre already a group a 4, max you can do is adding one two friends and maybe a love interest. So you end up with the pool of like 3 people from which you can pick ghostie and whodunnit is useless atp, because its kinda obvious who it is
I liked this one overall! 4 has also been my favorite of the franchise and I needed 6 to redeem it for me after the disappointment I found in 5. I think this movie was fun enough to do just that. That said, I left it really wishing someone returning had actually died. The stakes just felt so low after the end. I also would've loved to see it actually reveal the killer at the start and commit to them. It could be an extremely fresh take on the series if done right.
I hated that Sam just DROPPED Billy’s mask on the street. I get it. She doesn’t want to be a killer like her dad but…She has been having hallucinations of him HELPING her so why just leave it? Idk.
Even though the killers becoming giddy psychopaths as soon as they reveal their identities is in fine Scream franchise tradition, I'm really curious whether it was an actor choice or direction they were given that Quinn was the only one who actually showed flashes of grief around the psychopathy when it came to their supposed motivation, while the other two (especially Ethan) felt a lot more like Richie's death was just an excuse to get their murder on.
I agree with Amanda that S4 is underrated. I agree it is up there with 1. I enjoyed 6 a lot but the one plot hole I really can"t wave away is the cop being able to move to NY and be a cop while changing his identity so that no one would know he was Ritchie's father. And how did the siblings get transcripts under different names to enter college? It is different in S2 where all Billy's mom had to do was make a fake press badge. She didn't actually have to go into work at a paper. This guy had to get a job as a cop under an assumed identity. Can't be done. The college acceptances are also hard to believe.
I reeeeeally wish Richie’s dad was played by dennis quaid… everything may have been more obvious but that clear connection would’ve placed a shadow of a doubt and would’ve been super fun
My biggest issue with the film was the plot armor. it bothered me when the suspense crept up on you, made you hang on to the edge of your seat and then goes "Psych! They will live" But I did have an absolute blast and I feel it's a step up over 5
I think the reason they didn’t kill anyone of the leads in this movie is bc they were building up core4 so that we would care about them a lot more in the next movie so their deaths would have a lot more impact. Because truly, I didn’t really care about them at the start of the movie but if they died in the next one I’d be devastated
the new trilogy is like if the writers found out about the scream saga just via tiktoks and twitter breakdowns made by overexcited teenagers - this is fun in a final destination way, pure spectacle, not the meta critic it started with or thinks it is
After seeing this movie, I thought of a quote that encompasses all of the Scream movies: "The red herrings are always better than the reveal." (Scream 1 excluded).. GIVE ME STU
One, I'm over the will she won't she for Sam. I hope they drop it for the next movie because the pseudo psycho head title is kinda annoying at this point lol Two, I'm convinced they left so many people alive in this movie so they can kill them in the next movie. Three, loved Mindy's girlfriend. I wish she was still alive 😭 Edit: the whole reason the Stu theory is so big is because that was supposed to be one of the sequel's plot before they changed it. Stu was actually alive and was manipulating a group of teens to kill people. It was after Columbine and kids killing other kids was very fresh in everyone's mind so they changed it. With how much Matthew Lillard wants to come back, I almost want it to happen but they can't do it without Sydney. It just wouldn't make sense.
Agree. Just saw this in theater and the Scream series is kind of becoming like Star Wars in that it’s a mile wide and an inch deep with the same characters and motives being repeated again and again and trying to outsmart the audience often means the story and characters suffer. It was fine but, yes, Scream 4 more or less did these last two movies better.maybe give it a rest and let a new generation try next decade?
I was fine with Sydney being like "You know what, this keep happening, it's gonna keep happening, I'm sitting this one out I'm 50" honestly I feel like at a certain point, her continuing to show up doesn't make sense. But I 1 billion percent agree, pay Neve Campbell what she asks for.
I'm glad I was not the only one who absolutely loved the two Ghostfaces' double synchronized blade wipe after stabbing Chad 😅

It was an unexpected, satisfying, and just awesome moment. I, literally, smiled in the theater when I saw that.

I never get tired of the glass onion clip being used as an accent. Daniel Craig is a gem
i thought the idea was that the character was faking a terrible southern accent to make people think he was stupid and not a threat. But no, Daniel Craig is going the way of Tom Hanks in terms of ruining movies with silly accents.

I wish Gale had killed the Ghostface that attacked her. It would have changed up the story beats instead of always having all killers unmask themselves at the end.
That's what I was hoping for too, would have been great.
But then they would have unmasked it to find Quinn and pretty much figured the other killers out immediately lol
@@austinm8334 True. Would've been great if it was Ethan. As far as they knew he didn't have any connection to anyone else.

Once you study medicine, you are always like “how are these people not only surviving perforated bowels and pneumothoraxes but getting up and fighting with these injuries?”
movie magic adrenalin 😂
Actually don't need to study medicine for that 😂
And after everything calms down, they chit-chat like they don't have large stab wounds.
This movie is worse about that than ever before in this franchise. The Superhuman Four!
Mindy running towards Chad in the end, asking everyone "are you okay?" & Jumping in the ambulance as if she wasn't stabby stabbed a few hrs before 🙈
If I had a nickel for every time there was a piece of media starring Skeet Ulrich that had a character who inherited the “serial killer gene” I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice right?
I think my favorite part was where Chad actually had the idea to USE THE HEAVY OBJECTS AROUND HIM AS WEAPONS AND KEEP THEM like that’s what I’m always pointing out, like in Gale’s scene I spent so long being like “USE THE LAMP FOR GODS SAKE GALE” so watching him use the camera AND the popcorn machine as weapons was so satisfying
To me it made no sense that Gale and Tara/Sam’s apt didn’t have knives hidden in different rooms/crevices. They should know better!
Gale even used a pan as a weapon but she dropped it, it looked like one of those full steel/iron pans that are heavy as hell, it'd be a great weapon
You made me realize theres a lack of mothers in this franchise 😂. The good ole Disney treatment
@@moxiemaxie3543 yup they just hate the mothers lmao. Sidney’s mother gutted, Billy’s mom ended up being a killer, Kate Roberts killed by her own daughter, and Sam’s mom is a piece of shit💀. @@BrandonJames2016 oh boy, that means she's bound to get the mom treatment.. bye bye Sid
@@hsmorg3640 naw they would never do that to Sidney. That’s literally the worst thing you can do in this franchise.

You're going to be disappointed when scream 7 basically does the scream 3 plot with the killer being a secret third sister who also sees Billy visions
At that point it'll be so beyond saving I'll have to be along for the ride
actually a fun twist on Scream 3 (since the fandom collectively hates it for that STUPID VOICE CHANGER THAT MAKES NO FCKING SENSE) would be having the mother of Sam and Tara be the killer OR Tara's father.
What if it’s Tara and Sam’s absent mother?
I went to see this while cosplaying as Randy Meeks. My theater staff loved my costume so much they gave me a leftover fan event poster for the movie FOR FREE.

I think they just need to stop making friends. That's where they always get into trouble. Just accept that you're The Core Four, forever.
That lowkey could be a terrifying concept for psychological horror. Like, you've collectively experienced this trauma but is that really friendship? Especially when the trauma you bonded over is that you can't REALLY trust anyone.
@@Twinkdoesdrag That sounds so interesting. I’d love to read a story or watch a movie with that premise
the directors revealed that originally the killers were online conspiracy theorists trying to get sam to admit or something along those lines, i prefer that motivation compared to the one we got, i did the biggest eye roll in the theatre when they said who they were
bombastic side eye to whoever rewrote this plot line cuz that would’ve been so GOOD and solved so many of my issues with the film that we did get.

Probably the scariest Ghostface has been since Scream 4.

Your daughter is probably pretty cool.

I think the other thing hamstringing Sam is how tightly linked her character is to the stupid "serial killer gene" thing
She is fine but a far cry to be what sidney was
Ethan was the only real surprise for me in the reveal. Knew it was the cop when literally two seconds after Sam names her therapist as her alibi ONLY TO HIM, therapist dies, and you said it yourself: We never saw Quinn die and they keep that apartment locked down.
If Dewey could survive all the shit that happened to him in all those movies (before his death), Chad can magically survive this too 😂😂.
Chad is essentially the new Dewey with his ability to survive so many, what should be, fatal blows.

Not a complete clumsy ghost face too
I think scream 6 was a huge improvement from 5, but I miss the simplicity of the older films.
Me. He hot
ummm WHO WOULDN'T want to see Skeet Ulrich again? He killed it in Scream 5 lol had some of the best lines. And they def dialed it back here to like 1 or 2 moments.
@Ribotto Studios ummm the vast majority of the audience don't want to see an aged vision of Billy and its a general consensus that it was silly.
At least we did get some really badass Tara and Sam moments at the end that kinda saved it for me, but everything about the killers and their motives undermine so much of what was great about all the moments leading up to it.
yeah I really loved how the finale played out, just not who they revealed

She reminds me of my young self.
And as long as she doesn't commit any violent felonies in the name of elevating your memory or enacting vengeance on your enemies that's wonderful!
Both movies imply it was the super tiny girl characters that did it, and there is no way
The tiny girls being Ghostface is such a huge plothole and pet peeve to me. It does not add up.
@@plumdutchess why? sounds like some misogyny to me.
@@bb.yani1 misogyny my ass, women arent just made to be masked serial killers, its a fact.
She was talking to her therapist while the first 2 kills were going on near the campus
Other thing, is this the first scream movie where no legacy character dies? When thinking about it that way, Expectations subverted??? 👍
I really did think it was the end for gale tho when I was yelling “double tap” and she got her stomach pierced >.
You’re not crazy Scream 5 was garbage, I hated it, I was actually embarrassed for the people who made it, it was so bad. I don’t know what everyone else likes about it.
I was automatically suspicious of Quinn when she mentioned a dead brother
My order of Scream movies are:
Scream
Scream 4
Scream 2
Scream 3
The others don’t exist for me. 😁
Personally, I think if they are rebooting the other Scream plot lines, in Scream 3, it was Sydney's half-sibling. So in Scream 7, it would be half-siblings like Sam and Tara are.
I really liked Chad as a character but man that plot armor is something else😅. They said no one is safe then pushed core four. Interesting choice
my problem with this story is the lack of characters tbh. i feel like we could’ve had maybe 2 more friends in the group, possibly a reporter, another cop, or even gales boyfriend as a suspect before his death. just more characters because there really wasn’t a lot of options, but i still enjoyed the film a lot.
Let me just say for anyone using the subway, if you get separated from your group on the train, the people who got on the train are supposed to get off and wait at the next stop so you can meet them there once you get on the next train.
“I don’t know what fans that’s servicing.. BUT I DON’T WANNA MEET THEM.” 😂
That plot armor joke got me 😂 I had to rewatch it.
Roman is the best Ghostface not Jill, Roman started everything and did it on his own, he didnt need a partner.
And if they ever do decide to kill them off, it’ll make me wonder, what made this stomach stab different than the multiple stomach stabs from two different people in the 6th movie?
and it did, was filmed in good ol Canada 🇨🇦 aye
I have been waiting for you to do this!!! I saw it on the 10th. Been on the scream fan train since the 90s!!!
Scream 1 is also in my top ten favorite movies. Number six did have some really cool shots and kills!! and the subway scene is so freaking awesome!
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that was disappointed by Scream 6.
The incompetency and corruption of law enforcement is the most realistic thing about this movie.
one thing that makes the Billy hallucinations even worse is how BAD THEY LOOK (18:34).The de aging effect makes the actor look like a badly rendered Sim.
I just can't get on board w the "Hey kids! Who wants o play serial killer w daddy?" angle, LOL
The way I was wondering if we would get a Scream 6 video from Amanda and then this popped up on my feed
Killer memorabilia is actually a pretty lucrative deal irl.
When my cousin and I watched Scream 6 a couple weeks ago, we were in Virginia. We ended up sitting next to some family members of Jack Champion (aunt and cousin, I believe) -- only found out after the movie. Wild!
I love Scream so much, that I named my beloved dog, Sydney, based on Sydney, the ultimate final girl. Sadly she past last year.
Aw I'm so sorry that's so sweet
@@athenajaxon2397 thanks
I had forgotten you were super into scream 4 somehow. Scream 4 is also one of my favorites, one of my top 3 of all time honestly. It’s awesome to see someone else love and be passionate about this franchise 🥰
I did love the tension in the train scene! However, as a New Yorker, we're extremely vigilant community with a 'keep to yourself, but step up otherwise' culture and so, most folks would notice if someone was being stabbed in an extremely crowded subway car.
The videos i see on the New York sub are ppl getting stabbed and women getting raped and the bystanders just pretend like nothing happens...
21:31 Wait, why is Billy's knife caked in blood when his signature move was wiping the blood off after each kill?
I so love how Amanda continues to use the "Glass Onion" scenes of Benoît Blanc being exasperated by it being just dumb!
So you end up with the pool of like 3 people from which you can pick ghostie and whodunnit is useless atp, because its kinda obvious who it is
I will give the movie this: showing Ritchie’s “home movies” showed that he was doing this for a while and it made him terrifying
The plot armor joke got me so good 😅 .. I was really invested, thought you were gonna say something else 😂😂😂
The worst one. We could know who the killers was in the beginning. "Oh I lost a brother" oh i lost a son.. so dumb
the new trilogy is like if the writers found out about the scream saga just via tiktoks and twitter breakdowns made by overexcited teenagers - this is fun in a final destination way, pure spectacle, not the meta critic it started with or thinks it is
After seeing this movie, I thought of a quote that encompasses all of the Scream movies: "The red herrings are always better than the reveal." (Scream 1 excluded).. GIVE ME STU
One, I'm over the will she won't she for Sam. I hope they drop it for the next movie because the pseudo psycho head title is kinda annoying at this point lol
Two, I'm convinced they left so many people alive in this movie so they can kill them in the next movie.
Three, loved Mindy's girlfriend. I wish she was still alive 😭
Edit: the whole reason the Stu theory is so big is because that was supposed to be one of the sequel's plot before they changed it.
