    I can’t thank you enough!!! As a fellow Texan ( Dallas) area. My front yard is the only one that has weeds. ( St. Augustine) I’ve done TruGreen, Independent Lawn Services.... etc. Hopefully.... Home Depot or LOWES will have this!!!!!!!

    So you only spray the weed not all of the grass, just want to make sure? Also u mentioned the clovers grow because lack of nitrogen do I need to add something other than the milorganite?

      Hey Joe! I only spray the week killer on the actual weeds, I do not like adding a bunch of stuff to the grass if it is not needed. So I basically just take my weed killer and hose and I walk around the lawn and spot treat/spray the weeds. So yes, clovers grow b/c of lack of Nitrogen and they actually put nitrogen back into the soil.. For me this usually only happens in the spring b/c my last two fertilizations in the winter were low in nitrogen but high in potassium and phosperous (winterization fertilizer), so the spring time is the only time that the lawn can be a little low on nitrogen. I went ahead and used the weed killer on the clover and they should not come back this year b/c the milorganite will give it the nitrogen it needs. Does that make sense?

    I'm new to caring for grass, I have st augustine as well. You mentioned the clovers briefly on your grass. What would be proper procedure for that? (New subscriber) 😁

    • @thesecretgarden6948
      @thesecretgarden6948  3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hey! Thank you for subscribing! So when it comes to clovers, that can be a bit of a debate... So Clover takes nitrogen out of the air and puts it in your soil, making your grass around it grow better.. Some people leave it so that it helps the grass and some people kill it a long with other weeds. I personally still use weed killer on it because I want my lawn to all look the same with just my grass.... BUT it is not wrong to keep it as long as you don't let it get out of control; it can start spreading fast and you don't want it to take over your grass. In my yard clover usually only comes in the spring time b/c both the fertilizations I do in the winter are low nitrogen, so this is the only time of the year that the yard is low on Nitrogen.

      Tzone for a blanket spray and then use MSMA spot treatment for dallisgrass and other grassy weeds.

    What’s ironite for? Do you use that besides milorganite?

    • @thesecretgarden6948
      @thesecretgarden6948  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      So Ironite is just for a quick infusion of Iron into your lawn. It is NOT needed for every lawn and I only ever need it in the front yard b/c the two large trees take a lot of the nutrients out of my lawn. Milorganite is the main fertilizer I use and it has iron in it so in most situations you do not need to use Ironite, if you use Milorganite.

    Hey I’m a new subscriber to your channel but I have some questions. I also have st Augustine grass and live in San Antonio. My backyard grass is starting to have a lot of weeds in some spots and my front yard has some weeds in some spots too. So I went to Walmart and bought spectracide weed stop for lawns for ST. Augustine & Centipede lawns (purple bottle). It says it will only kill the weeds not the lawn. But I’m afraid that it will kill my grass. Do you recommend using the product I bought or use the product you bought. And is the product I bought or you bought safe for dogs because I have two dogs.

      I have same question

    • @thesecretgarden6948
      @thesecretgarden6948  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey! Thank you for subscribing! I have not used Spectracide on my St Augustine lawn before but I used that brand when I had different grass in TN and it worked great! I was actually planning on buying it at some point this year, to try out for my St Augustine grass so that I would know if it worked well for it as well. Regardless, I would advise just using a smaller dosage of it when applying it, just in case.. that is exactly what I will be doing when I try it out. As long as you use a smaller amount and then add more if it does not harm your grass (if needed) then you should be fine. As far as for your dogs... any weed killer, unless it is organic (which do not work well) is bad for animals. SO, what I would advise is to apply the weed killer at night so that it has a good 8-10 hours to soak in the the ground so that your dogs wont be able to get to it as easily.

    Any suggestions on controlling wild bermuda growing within St. Augustine? These things almost never die. I’ve tried spot spraying just the leaves one by one with roundup which is the only thing that can “reduce” it but they poke up elsewhere.

    • @thesecretgarden6948
      @thesecretgarden6948  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Your St Augustine should strangle out the Bermuda. Is your St Augustine thick and it still coming through? I have areas in my side yard where my St Augustine spread and took over the Bermuda grass so I didn’t even have to put sod down there. I honestly don’t think there is a way to kill just the Bermuda besides what you are doing, which sounds show and time consuming

    • @skytom88
      @skytom88 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do have thin areas still recovering from the TX winter storm (Corpus Christi). Bermuda seems to recover so much faster than St. Aug. More and more popping up in between St. Aug.
      Yes, trying to put Roundup on just Bermuda going one by one is so timing/labor intensive but I can’t find any other solution.

      @@skytom88 Yeah I’m actually just now noticing the exact same thing in parts of my yard, an issue I’ve not had before. If I find a solution I will let you know but the St Augustine will eventually over take it. I noticed some when removing thatch and then I started pulling some of the Bermuda out by hand

      You can't kill crabgrass without killing your St. Augustine grass also. Crabgrass dies in the winter...wait for it to die...and then pull it out. That is the only true realistic way to remover crabgrass....to prevent crabgrass...have a thick lawn because it and St. Augustine will fight for soil and room. The thicker the St. Augustine the less room there is for Crabgrass. Products that claim to kill crabgrass are 100% full of shit.
