If you look at a few Facebook pages and see how Indians are offering free milk and diapers to black mothers, you will see that majority of us look beyond race and skin colour. In fact, even if I take my helper to the shop, my kids sit at the back and she in the front to teach them respect any elder despite the colour of his skin and his job title . Coming to the story mentioned, all businesses were looted and burned despite who the owners may be. But due to looters entering residents and defending ourselves we are now labeled as racists and now it's becoming a racial thing with a hash tag "Indians must fall", and the very same Jacob zuma's son has incited that, inclusive the looting.

The racial tension is mainly because indians are protecting their neighbourhood with force. There are criminal elements that are making it a racial issue. They are un happy because they cannot loot these areas,Sad to say, Government is too lenient with criminals in this country. South African here. I'm afraid you've got it wrong. Zuma and the Guptas were chums. The Indian community just happens to be most densely populated in KwaZulu-Natal, which is where both Zuma and the Zulus live (and where most the riots so far have been occuring). This however, is an orchestrated political plot to cut off food and destroy the economy.

I am a bit confused now. Zuma and the Guptas were chums. The people doing the riots are supporting Zuma. And these people are burning and looting shops that are Indian. The Guptas are Indian. Yes, I'm confused.
Let me clarify - I’m a South African born and raised - there are 3 strong arguments behind the motivations of the rioters:
1. The deep inequality and poverty that has worsened due to COVID 19 and the implications of our lockdown
2. The narratives pushed by political elites such as Zuma and Julia malema
3. Orchestrated attacks on infrastructure to destroy the economy - which stems from a culture that has been embedded in the leftist liberation movement in South Africa since the days of apartheid.
The guptas and zuma were in alliance during Zuma’s term as presidency, however, the guptas do not represent the Indian community. The reasons that Indians are being targeted is because many of their areas are near the places that are being looted. The Indian people of South Africa have refused to stand by and let their property be ransacked by rioters by taking an armed stand (specifically in areas such Phoenix). This has put a target on their heads, which has resulted in the persecution of their communities by the organised mobilisation of rioters. There are multiple truths in this scenario and we cannot believe that there is one single truth behind this chaos.

Hi Im from Durban which is in KZN in South Africa which is being hit hard.We've watched our malls and stores and supermarkets first get looted then burnt down which was devastating.This was all too carefully planned.We could see everything go up in smoke from our homes not to mention the gunshots and now Indians are being targeted yet all we are doing is protecting our families our homes and properties.We are scared and havent slept well since this started as we dont know what to expect this week

ahem. nelson mandela went to prison for starting the armed resistance movement, not for peaceful diplomacy. he is a man who represents the idea that tolerance cannot be tolerant of intolerance. That is at least before he rolled over and let WMC rub his tummy, and posed for photos with the Spice Girls. He ultimately let himself down and everyone he went to prison fighting for. But his struggle against apartheid is characterised by the move away from asking nicely. That much we must remember.

Sorry WION, but in this instance your analysis is not 100% correct.
1. Many historically Indian suburbs are located adjacent to black areas, and are economically more well off, thus presents an easy target for looters from black areas.
2. The riots broke out in KZN, which is a both a stronghold of Jacob Zuma, and also where a lot of Indian communities are situated.
3. Areas which are predominantly white and black has also been targeted.
4. Racist attitudes from blacks towards Indian people predates state capture and the Guptas, since large parts of the Indian community has rejected the corrupt, inept, marxist and ethno-nationalist ANC. They have thus, since 94, become political rivals to the majority of black people.
It's reporting like this that is fueling racial tension. The rioting and looting in South Africa was never about Indians. Black own businesses in Gauteng & KZN have also fallen victim to what's happening. Inciting a race war will only divide this beautiful country even further!
