I am eternally fascinated with the sea. I read my first epic classic novel when just a boy, Moby Dick. From that point on I pursued every sea story, fiction or real. It is my opinion that a person is not fully tested until he or she is met with either combat or encounters with bodies of water, such as depicted in this video.
I read two years before the mast; London's Mutiny of the Elsinore; Sterling Hayden's, Voyage. These and many others tell of "rounding the Horn." Would you estimate that the movie Master and Commander with Russel Crow depicts that storied passage?
Exactly. Lots of places in our oceans, seas, and even lakes are deadly.

Workers on ships in the North Sea face dangers such as rough weather, icy conditions, fatigue, and the risk of collisions or grounding. One of the most perilous aspects of their job is conducting maintenance and repairs while at sea, especially during storms or adverse weather conditions. Yeah I'm pretty sure if the vid was higher definition, you could zoom in and see a little brown spot form on his pants when the platform hits the ladder. That's fucking insane, how are his balls not smacking against each step
Yeah, but at least he had a solid staircase to walk on. Think about those who had to settle for a rope ladder. And then add to that, wearing a life jacket and carrying equipment and heavy tools needed to perform repairs/inspection of the some of the ship's systems. I tried that once, and I tell you, getting off the ship back onto the shuttle is an exercise of faith. Hanging on the ladder, with your back to the shuttle, you can't turn your head around or downwards to see the shuttle or the oncoming waves, you're depending on the guys on the shuttle to tell you when to let go and just jump off the ladder and pray the ship and shuttle don't get hit by a massive wave just when you jump off.

But deep down, they know that there is one true God who is not on earth and has never been present on earth. He is above everything, and nothing resembles him. Imagine the guts it took for the Vikings to cross the same sea? Makes me proud to be Scandinavian.
البحر خلق عظيم الداخل فيه مفقود و الخارج منه مولود و الناس فيه دود على عود.
This is so very terrifying…. Brave people , I could never do this, it is hard to watch.
Wow! So dangerous! Mad respect for these men! ❤
This is the kine of sea that would I picture having sea monsters in.
I asked my late father who was ex Royal Navy, what was the worst sea he’d travelled on? Without hesitation he said “the North Sea” I thought it would be somewhere like the North Atlantic or round South America but no, he also told me that it was the only time he’d ever been sea sick.
Years ago I travelled to Amsterdam from Hull, and we hit a storm.
There were people crying, barely anyone could walk (most of the people who dared to move were on all fours) and the ship was covered in sick.
A crew member told me that it was a force 9 (strong/severe gale) on the Beaufort Scale, though I can't confirm that.
I wasn't too bad* and moved around, although much of the ferry was off limits, heading towards the bow for a nosey, but one of my mates actually thought it was the end.
I was an amazing experience, although I've never felt so insignificant and powerless in my life.
*I'm not trying to be the 'big man' - I just coped better for some reason. The guy who was having a crisis is pretty tough - he'd probably deal with many situations better than me - he just didn't have 'sea legs'.
I think we were about 3 hours late getting into Rotterdam (Hook of Holland).
Also, I wasn't out on deck - myself and a couple of other guys opened up a door on the port side, just to get a brief taste of the wind and water, but after about a minute we closed it... with a bit of difficulty.
I couldn't imagine what it must be like for crewmen and women, who DO have to endure it without the benefit of some shelter.
Huge amount of respect to people like your Dad and his seamates - I hope he knew that he was appreciated by many people.
😮 wow. I'd be puking and scared. This is a good short clip video. You found a song I can listen to a million times over. Look at the color of that water. So glad my feet are planted firmly on terra firma.

the most underappreciated individuals on the planet...MEN.
The world as we know it would not be.... without men. Thank God for strong brave men ❤
That’s why men should not mess with any woman that has a pet Yorkie. You will never receive the proper appreciation. Find a cat lady instead.
