I vaguely remember Mexico 86, but Italia 90 was my first World Cup proper. I can remember me and my friends finishing school on that Friday afternoon and rushing home to watch Argentina v Cameroon. Great times.

I was born 77 as well and of course 86-90 were the definitive International tournaments before Euro 96.
Possibly something to do with the disasters of some Euros and no qualification to 94

I'm sat here, glass of wine in hand, and thought I'd watch a couple of minutes of this for the memories...ended up watching the whole thing without even blinking. Such a great show and a charming double act. This programme is dearly missed (and RIP Saint who recently passed away).

One thing that doesn't happen now is the holders of the World Cup don't qualify automatically for the next tournament only the hosts. I don't really agree with that because the holders should be able to defend the trophy. If they don't qualify they don't get that chance. Mind you I suppose if they aren't good enough to qualify they don't deserve to defend it.

Had Cameroon lost to Argentina, then we’d have played Diego in the quarter finals again.

Despite being a mostly clean game, Greavsie concedes that a Kung fu kick to the throat was " a little bit nasty"

Love the advert at 13:39 for recruiting teachers - why would they include the annoyed sighs of the kids at the end of the ad?! "Come and be a teacher and put up with this kind of attitude!!"

Jim Leighton had 42 clean sheets at international level. How many goalkeepers can match that? Probably not too many.

The only clean sheets Leighton had was when he had a fresh bog roll

@@bonzodog6872 That only works if he didn't have any clean sheets but he had 42 at international level. So you'll need to re-work that to 'The only clean sheets Leighton had was when he kept clean sheets against England, Germany, Uruguay, Spain, France, Argentina, Colombia, Denmark, Rep of Ireland etc, etc.)
