I'm new to the photography and I got Nikon D800 50mm f/1.8g. How much approximately iso will work best for these kind of pics?
Gökhan Demir just experiment and take test shots in every location. Its always changing and depends on how you like to edit
@@MrS2jack you'll get minimal noise till 3200.. I'll suggest not to go above 6400.
@@MrS2jack Best tip I ever got was choose shutterspeed to suit the scene (i.e. fast if the object is moving) and then just move the ISO up from there. Try it as low as possible to begin with.
High iso but not too high too high can make too much noise and noise reduction can’t always take enough away
As my main job is nightclub and gig photography I agree with all these tips. For gig photography, I like to use a 50mm, with the settings ~60/s, f1.8 and 3200 iso. If it's still too dark then use a flash with the exposure compensation set at -1, this adds a nice fill whilst keeping the colours from the stage lighting. For nightclubs, I use a 10-18mm with the settings 1/6th/s, f8, 800 iso and a Speedlite. This freezes the subject, but captures the glow of the club lights and creates a really nice effect.
Haze is the biggest problem I have to deal with, do you have any tips for shooting through haze/fog created by fog machines in nightclubs?
usually fog is deleted at iso 100 or mostly lower iso
Lee Allen when I was taking a picture of my friend at a night club with my phone (that was bedore I bought a camera) I noticed that if you bring the mid curves down, you lose much of the smoke. I hope that helps :) and also I have the idea that a polarising filter might help too
I think you made a typo. You said 1/6th of a second. That will NOT freeze people movement.
@@tourinojacks5844 the rear curtain flash freezes the subject. The 1/6 is to allow ambient light to move and meld together for an interesting effect.
if you meant you have trouble with focussing, i would try using manual focus or this thing where AF is activated but you can change it than on the focus ring. and fokus peaking should be helpful when theres a lot of fog. greeting from an noob amateur :D

Thanks for the tips Peter ! Another tip I would give : don't be afraid to USE THE INBUILT FLASH UPWARDS for the darker situations. This gives some awesome backlight while diminishing the normally overexposed look of the flash.

If you need more tips: I also just released a low light photography tutorial. I mean, it's not Peters level, but well, if you want to see it, go on.
For those using Photoshop, I would recommend the Neat Image Pro plugin. It can denoise a photo at three detail levels, on three channels separately (Y/Cb/Cr).

Hey Peter, I am starting to shoot a homemade short film and one of the scenes includes me taking pictures with a 35mm film camera. That got me wondering, does anyone shoot film nowadays? So I had this idea to challenge you to go on a photo shoot and take the pictures with a film camera. But I would want you to show the whole experience of choosing the ISO, loading the film, getting it developed and everything in between. Just so that everyone can get a taste of something that is getting lost. Love your videos keep it up man.

I find that "cropping in camera" is a great technique for reducing noise. Photos shot in low light always produce more noise when cropped in post. (Just my 2 cents of info lol)
