@@lollybowser No, I think they still do. Take their TV shows, for example, "The Owl House" Has some very high quality storyboarding, and features the occasional, god-tier scenes animated by Spencer Wan, a highly skilled animator. I recently saw the new outro for "Amphibia" and I was very impressed! The animation is smooth and colourful, very high quality. They still do make masterpieces, just not as often.
@@byattwurns1553 oh yes I agree. I should've specified tho, I meant 2D films. Unlike say, The Owl House that has some really good shots of amazing smooth animation sprinkled between regular (still good) animation, in the films the entire thing is amazing smooth animation. Obviously due to budget. Unfortunately Disney would rather keep pumping out forgettable low quality nostalgia bait remakes that for some reason people keep paying to watch, or cheaper-to-produce 3D films than make a high quality 2D film.
And for screwing over Atlantis, canceling it's tv series (Which was planned to crossover with friggin Gargoyles.), And it's ACTUAL sequel Shards of Chaos.
In Disney's defense, it wasn't really their fault. This film, along with other bangers like Treasure Planet and Road to El Dorado, got swept aside in place of the shiny new 3D films that came out at the same time. Namely Shrek and Toy Story, which are just... hard to beat in terms of animated family films. Edit: Y'all I KNOW El Dorado is DreamWorks. I never said it was Disney's. There is a batch of amazing 2D animated films that came out very close in time to the first major 3D films like Shrek. The fact is, 3D was faster, cheaper, and novel when they came out and the 2D films were simply bowled over in performance measures at the time. As someone else explained in another comment, Princess and the Frog was Disney's "last gasp" in 2D works and determined the future of the animation used by Disney.

I got a friend to watch this for her first time the other night, and we realized something that didn't age well about the original ... The cast of this entirely Central/South American -set tale is devoid of any Hispanic main cast, and the only PoC in that main cast happens to voice the villain. :/ I'm glad times have changed, but also I worry that this will actually give Disney even MORE reason to come at this with a live-action remake, and that they'd try to force it to have an ethnically congruent cast, and the whole thing would turn out patronizingly culturally unsound and entirely too serious. :( I really hope they never make the mistake of going there. This movie absolutely can't work without the ridiculous unbelievable contrived comedy elements and you just KNOW they'd ruin all of that.

21.4.2021, 48 205 views. (Over a double from day before. Feel free to insert the 'OH MY GOD OKAY IT'S HAPPENING! EVERYBODY STAY CALM! STAY FUCKING CALM!!' meme right here.)
I always wanted to hear what they said in the original language. In Spanish Isma says she never liked his empanadas (A Latin food). It made the joke a bit better in my opinion (You know, because the movie is in Peru)
More like a tired cliché. They did it in the Sonic movie and it's very annoying. No I DON'T wonder cause I know who you are! You think I didn't spoil every spoiler before coming here? What do you think I am, an amateur?!
"Uh oh" "Don't tell me, we're about to go over a huge waterfall?" "Yup." "Sharp rocks on the bottom?" "Most likely." "...... Bring it on....." Yeah, that sums up my life...
2 points you missed: 1. Kronk singing and then frozen on the wall. 2. The lizard soldier crying “come on men! No one lives forever!” Before they all plummet to their deaths needlessly.
Also, they forgot the part, where they were in the cafe, and Kusko and the lady (forgot the name) entered and exited the kitchen. Not seeing each other.
You forgot my favorite, "TELL US WHERE THE TALKING LLAMA IS AND WE'LL BURN DOWN YOUR HOUSE." "Don't you mean 'or you'll burn down our house?" "Fine. Tell us where the talking Llama is OR we'll be burn down your house." "Well, which one is it? Both seem like a very crucial conjunction."
Then Yzma asks Kronk to break the door down, but he won’t because it’s hand carved mahogany and he appreciates good craftsmanship. Seriously, every frame is a meme. lol
I love how even just the memes of this movie still tell a coherent story. Also, that crocodile is literally how I imagine my Feraligator. Big, strong, can most certainly kick your butt, but a little goofy and a bit of a clown. (Saur has a quirky nature)

The director of this movie Mark Dindal made a movie for Warner Brothers called “Cats Don’t Dance” that has a very similar vibrancy and wit to The Emperors New Groove. He had a special touch. Disney can make visual masterpieces in 2D, the problem is they don't want to.

I'll never forgive Disney for killing their 2D animations

Ah yes the obligatory 3D remake that no one asked for.
I don't think so. By the way, should is the lender and the boss of Disney right now? I mean, from what I hear it can't be from the Disney family ! I am soo confused
