Needless to say, I'm still getting tones and head combinations dialed in on this kit, but the initial sound of these first recordings has been SO impressive. I have some other recordings going on Insta this weekend to offer a better idea of what the kit can do. I describe the kit sound as "dry and cavernous." It has a LOT of up-front presence under the mics, and it's the first kit I've owned that requires virtually no EQ to cut through guitars in a mix. It also has a naturally short sustain, that requires almost no muting. How would you describe the kit's sound? Keep an eye out for EP30 of the OD Podcast, which will cover all questions regarding this kit build, my sig snare with Entity, and a further explanation as to why I went with Pearl. Thanks my friend! The SQ1 is actually quite thin (7mm compared to 5.4mm on this kit.) The difference is response time. These drums reach their full resonance much faster than a thicker kit would.

During this time I’ve had DW’s, Starclassics, Gretsch’s, Mapex’s, and more Pearl drums and my favourites has always been the Reference I got back in 2008. Also got a Maple Gum kit last year to get a different vibe and I don’t need another kit now. Great video! Great playing! Congrats to an awesome kit!

What made you go for rounded bearing edges as opposed to a straight cut one? Were you looking to get more tone out of the drum itself as opposed to the head or was there a different thought behind it? Congrats on the endorsement and thanks for your awesome work in education, Adam!

I wanted to hear the wood as it is naturally, with maximum head-to-shell contact. I also needed to preserve some resonance, as a thin birch kit is not going to “sing” the same way a thicker kit would.

Any chance for a list of every piece of your other equipment that made up this kit including cymbals? I would imagine this whole setup is extremely expensive (if you know what it costs), but I would start saving!!
Kudos on the 20x17 kick. I play a 20x16 primarily and I think it’s the best sounding kick drum I’ve ever played. Perfect amount of punch and low end and easier to haul.

I’ve had a vintage and a modern Ludwig kit for the past couple years. Before that a couple Gretsch kits and Yamaha kit. Haven’t played a Pearl kit since high school. They’ve had me looking at some of their newer stuff lately though. I swapped out the modern Ludwig for a DW Collectors kit a few months ago, but lately I’ve been considering one of the President Series kits for the house. Something about that vintage throw back appeals to me.
AWESOME, so glad you went with a GORGEOUS Pearl Masterworks and chose an actual unique shell composition. Many often go with a tried and true shell, which I think is a waste when opting for a truly CUSTOM kit like the Masterworks, as anyone could easily buy a, *insert name brand* kit, for a fraction of the cost.
Im still a Sonor guy til I die. But Kit looks nice. My issue with Pearl is I hate their tom mounting system with the poles. That said.. will the 15" tom limit you from throwing an EMAD on the 2nd floor tom? I know I was disappointed to find that I could put at Emad on my SQ1 18" Floor tom because sizing is so limited

Dry and cavernous fits. Sounds like the thin shell with the diecast hoops gives nice tone, but short cut off.

Pearl is the best drums to play and I have been playing them since the 80's and never switched and they are very road worthy which is very important .
