Thanks for the shout out in this podcast Gerry and Jordy! I was so happy to achieve a PB at Melb Mara, 20 years later!! Perhaps we can go for a dip under 4 hours next time! Thanks so much for your podcast and coaching, sharing your experience, insights and gratitudes!
GREAT VIDEO GUYS. I just watched it while doing an interval session on the bike. I know you were not, but it felt like you were talking to me. I just signed up for the Vancouver Marathon in May 2025 and will be doing it with my two boys (starting anyway). The registration asked for an estimated finish time and I optimistically entered 3:59:24, which is exactly one hour more than my finish time in the same race in 1988. (My one and only marathon where I did many things wrong but still hit my target). I knew that sub-4 was probably a hard target because it is about 5 seconds per km below my current threshold pace. Although I do plan to adjust my training for a long run (with some cross training) I am not sure I will get fast enough to comfortably get below 4 hours. So I was already planning to adjust my time to a more realistic target a few minutes more than 4 hours (actual time TBD closer to race day) and hopefully enjoy the race experience a bit more. Your video gave me many good reasons to make the adjustment and allow me to target a negative split.
I love this! You should get a Trivelo Coach and you will get realistic goals that will shift as you get closer to the race. I loosely trained with Jordy for the Melb Marathon (I am not on a marathon plan as such, I am training for IMWA in December - and I am a little bit of a naughty student, I don't do all my homework!) and I was able to achieve a PB by 84 secs, but the best part is I set this PB at age 27 in 2004! It's so worthwhile joining up. There will be no guess work, and so much less stress! I would also recommend the Triathlon Nutrition Academy to get the nutrition dialled in... as I ran the last 4km hard, there were "dead people" everywhere, stretching, vomiting etc... I felt sorry, (not sorry) for them! Taryn has a great podcast about endurance nutrition too. How's that for a bit of unsolicited advice!! I just wish you all the best!

Great to hear from you Jim and sounds like a smart adjustment!
