Played Stone Age a couple days ago in honor of the international holiday. My SO and I were just discussing the need for an expansion to freshen the experience a bit. Excited to hear they are doing a reprint. Thanks so much for the great news and review!
This is indeed a most excellent gateway game. Each time I have introduced this game to new gamers, it has never failed to delight them and thus they embark to explore the ocean of modern board-gaming. :)
In the expansion rules I don't think they are clear enough in regards to the jewelry track. When you get a card that has +1 on the jewelry track it does not say you ALSO get 2 jewelry. I've played twice with 2 diff groups and they interpreted the rules differently.
Great entry level worker placement game which scales very well at different player counts. I like the additional elements from the expansion, but as of now there is still no definite rule on how trading works (can you trade for exactly just ONE good, or can you trade as many as you like of 1 TYPE of good a turn?) so I usually play with just the extra elements without the trading component.
Fernando Robert Yu we played that depending on where you are on the jewelry track you can trade once per round and that upgraded resource Myst be used immediately to either buy a card or a hut. You can't just trade once every round to save up on resources.
It's funny, since just yesterday I searched for a rahdo runthrough of Stone Age but was disappointed I couldn't find one. Espacially because you put it so high on your Gateway Games Top 10 list. So very nice, we now can get a better picture of it. Since you don't have the box of the expansion (anymore?) can I assume, that this is a game that is permanently on your shelf?
@@rahdo Oh man! Thank you so much for your help brother 😀👍❤️ You're the best! My first episode I ever watched of your show was 5-Minute Dungeon. You really helped me understand the game better and then I asked for my sister to get me it for Christmas and I got it from my sister for Christmas. 😀👍 You Rock Dude!😀👍 🎸🎶 I watch your show all the time. I subscribed. You're really on the level. You're the real McCoy. Have a good one buddy. Sincerely Vince 😀👍
Totally agree with your opinions. Including the following: "Stone age is rock solid"; nice (unintentional) pun. And the fact that the expansion board is just the opposite of its name is indeed bass-ackwards. "Style is the goal" -> fail!
Awesome reviews! Going to get this when coolstuff is back in stock. Sort of a newb, can you recommend a game similar to this? Pillars of the Earth maybe? I am really into the look and more importantly the mechanics of this game.
This is such a good game. As far as the luck element, I'm undefeated at this game. (played at least ten times). Scored 195 last game. What's considered a high score I wonder? Most people I play with scores between 100-150.
Jason Hilton luck is definitely a factor, but i'm pretty sure i mentioned in the video that the game is long enough that it tends to "spread around" so it evens out over the course of the game :)
Jason Hilton My wife and I played it for the third time today and I decided to stop trying to build a lot of huts and focused on collecting the cards. I managed to bag 13 green cards and together with my huts and other cards scored 365 points (which I ridiculous and probably only possible with two players). My wife's score was pretty good though. She managed to get 181 points.
Seems a bit lame once you get to 1:1. You can just hoard wood and trade 1:1 with gold or stone when you need it. So pretty much no one will go to mine gold. It seems to me that it defeats the purpose of an expansion, it doesn't expand the game, rather shift the gameplay to a bit different style. Or am I missing something?

winterplum yup, perfect if someone is there to teach it. slightly on the borderline if newbies have to teach it to themselves :)
Any word on whether the reprint of the expansion fixed the size and crease issues?
i don't think so, but i'm not 100% sure...
@@rahdo Ok thanks for the reply regardless
"bass akwards" lol. another cool vid. thanks.

katzenkotzen yup. definitely a keeper.
Is there a difference between the Two Rio Grande and ZMan Stone Age? Which Stone Age was first? Rio or ZMan?

I think you may have just coined a new game term: Dice screwage!
Jen! 7:04 :D

+Daniel Reilly pillars of the earth is almost impossible to find. maybe you'd want to try lords of waterdeep?

Love Stone Age, hate the expansion.
