There is a temporary speed restriction on the Bidgee Bidgee Bridge while testingis underway. There is a charging point at Westmead terminus. They can run on the batteries for a full loop.
Yes, the charging point at Westmead works from under the vehicle. Paul at Transport Vlog noted it at the very end of his third update of the Light Rail Line, and the green OESS sign reminding drivers to utilise it.
Notice that on the overbridge there are inner lines alongside the rails. Might they have something to do with braking? Agree with you on the grassy surrounds of the tracks. It is very reminescent of some of the many tramways surrounding Paris. Travelled on a couple of lines almost ten years ago and they are now up to around 13 different lines. What a great overall system of public transport they have. Mind you they need it. The ring road Peripherique is often like a car park.
The Newcastle trams don't have storage batteries, they have low internal resistance "supercapacitors" which can charge and discharge almost instantaneously but don't hold their charge indefinately.
Yeah it’s daily at the moment as i’m trying to get these update videos out before the opening of other the Metro extension or L4. Whenever that will be lol
i agree with the stop, beautiful design with the bridge in the background leading to the green tracks. and also the drivers would be pleased to see someone like you. it would be monotonous without passengers, no wonder they nod and smile :)
So now we have four types of power supply to trams. L1 is the traditional way, L2 and 3 are under-road pickup for part of the route, L4 has part catenary, part batteries, and Newcastle (L whatever!) has recharge at every stop. I look forward to the next tram line variation. Cronulla-Sutherland used to have steam trams but I guess that's too much to hope for. Love the tram-spotter cat by the way.
Newcastle trams has capacitors its true, but they can ALSO run off overhead so when that line eventually gets extended through the Broadmeadows development area they will likely do it with overhead. Personally I hope they just put wires up the whole way along Newcastle, it slows the trams down a lot because they need 30s at every stop, but has so far proved reliable enough unlike the ridiculous George street APS third rail system which has been shit.
@@BigBlueMan118 yep it fails a lot. also the pantograph fails a lot at town hall because of the coupled vehicles. you might see one go up but the other stays down. hopefully more reliable here, one vehicle only.
@@Roadrunnerz45 I haven't heard of issues with the pantographs before, but there are so many issues with the L2/L3 George Street lines honestly. It should absolutely be trialled with 30kmh speeds between Central and Town Hall, no reason trams need to run so slow there and if it's a problem they should just plant a small hedge on the edge of the tram tracks to make people think before they cross the street. They need a loop at Moore Park for events, the existing platform is just total crap. It needs to be extended to Maroubra Junction ASAP to collect more of the bus traffic it was meant to relieve. There is a set of points near Bridge Street that never gets used and causes trams to slow down below 10kmh. Get rid of APS. Alot more I could highlight.
yeah i thought there was charging at westmead. when the line opens we can see what the driver does for the power supply change and how many times they need to do it. presumably 2 in total each way.
I still think they should have just continued the line elevated through from the bridge over James Ruse drive, it would have allowed much faster running with higher track speeds without the slow curves and it would have better mitigated against flooding.
This will be on the members only part and will be released late this year. It will be bound by the Suburban network though as Intercity and Regional can take a very very long time to do as my work schedule is all over the place lol

Weastmead station does have the ability to charge trams. it is a conductor rail rather than overhead bar or cable though.
Thank you for the info mate :)
Nice video Phil, I have been watching your videos since vlog 1.

Ooooh interesting! Thank you for that info mate :)
never have i been this early to someone uploading ever
You’re quick! :)
Yeah, I mean a lot of us are now used to Sydney Trains Vlog's uploading schedule.

always happy to get another update phil haha

Not forgetting the early mechanical cable cars still seen in San Francisco.
Very nice video Phil
Thank you :)
There is another short section of overhead between Parramatta and Westmead, as well as ground charging at Westmead terminus
yeah i thought there was charging at westmead. when the line opens we can see what the driver does for the power supply change and how many times they need to do it. presumably 2 in total each way.
The dwell times for these stops seem to be quite long, hopefully they can improve the timetable once they get active passenger data etc...
Just like the L2 and L3 they’ll improve in the months after opening :)
Hi Phil, has the extension to Olympic Park been approved?
Hey Phil, I just visited Yagoona station and there was a lidcombe service cancellation and some delays, do you know what happened?
Hey mate!
There was a trespasser near the tracks at Erskineville earlier causing delays on the Bankstown Line.
Oh thanks
Nice intro music
Thank you :)
@@sydneytrainsvlogs welcome.
Hello there!
I was wondering do you know when the light rail will be opening? Thanks in advance
Hiii :)
I haven’t heard a confirmed date yet but i don’t think it’ll be long :)
I own 2 race horses trained at rosehill Gardens racecourse
That’s so cool!
I just went to Westmead hospital and I saw a light rail testing
Awesome! :)

when will you release station requesting?

Phill you know the release date of stage 1? 😅
Not yet, i hope it wont be too long though :)
