Widespread Panic perform "Cortez The Killer" live in bend, OR on July 3, 2016. Jerry Joseph sits in. Shot & edited by Andy Tennille Audio mix by Brett Orrison
One of the rare songs that cast a spell on the musician as well as the listener. Neil Young transitioned reality and time on the creation and presentation of this classic. May it be played for generations to come.
Grew up in Klamath Falls, just south of Bend, OR. Traveled and attended my first WP show at Red Rocks, 1999. Made many friends, brothers and sisters throughout the years. We all joined up for these two days, and this show....this show...these guys.
Was at the rabbit hole. Watchin bloodkin. Rockin my ass off, bumped into a smaller guy, it was jerry joseph. He was super nice and had no shoes on. Pretty much told him how much i live his influence. End of story. Carry on. 🖖🏼
To all the Jerry haters out there. I don't get it. When he is on stage with Panic they seem to energize exponentially. Hard to really hear it in Cortez because it's kind of chill, but dude brings it. To the chick that strips every time he plays with them or they play one of his songs I hope all is well wherever you and your man are. Hope you and the family are enjoying the design. Love to all. Enjoy
Nice old school rock awesome sounding cover of a classic, side note didn't realize the dude was barefooted until about half way through it first started thought those are some interesting boots and didn't think much more about it Ahahahahahahaaha!
I was there. Killer show. Killer two nights. Miss going into Houser shows and feeling the dirty that was on the way. The alphabet show was the night before I think. Naked dude in lot running from cops. Nice two nights. NC shows are the best.
Unfortunately thats too true but I consider myself very blessed to be one of the lucky people that have been part of this musical journey! I love sharing this world with others and seeing it make a difference for them!!
I'm gonna be hung out to dry for this comment, but this is a perfect example of why I never liked JJ. Panic embodies the opposite of the "dig me" mentality and JJ is the opposite of that. He's always jumped around the stage getting all up in folks circles... I've never cared for it and never will. I know JB digs him some JJ, but jeez man. We see you Jerry, you don't have to draw more attention to yourself...
Good point… having not seen that perspective afore! I too love to learn from another… likes and dislikes ya know. Cheers! Thanks for your point of view
I hear you. Uncle Neil is a hard act to follow. They gave this thing a reggae treatment! If somebody had told you that before you listened could you have imagined it'd be this good?

This is not music you listen to, this is music you feel.
i felt gay with this on
real talk
This is pinnacle rock'n'roll.
After this show in Bend, I bought a guitar. Jerry's playing...
LOVE the fact this beat DMB on the JamBase March madness tournament of "who covered it best"!! But hardly surprised me 😁
With Warren Haynes?
OMG I'm crying

Jerry was having a fun time up there, looked like he had been having a fun time all night...
This is the day I met JB. Best day of my life 💚

Much love to you for throwing that on here. Damn good version! Love the heavy layers in there.
It doesn't get any better!
this was hard to explain from the audience but to say the least it was inspiring emotional deep amazing and a feeling of disbelief in the good way

Looooll. That dude probably pays taxes, climbs mountains and ice skates barefoot
I was there nothing like it
No idea who these people are, but damn this shit's good. The only thing they can't reach is Neil's vocals, but some things are meant to be this way :)
Huh.... Wide Spread Panic dude.
@@hippydippy quit messing with them! That sir is Phish! Get on board!
😆
Neil is simply amazing.
@@lukefish7562 it’s Goose
@@lukefish7562 disrespectful.
That Jerry Joseph guy looks like trouble.
This was truly awesome to see live. Was JoJo alive during it though?
JoJo nods off from time to time - when he wakes up tho its awesome and they play a blackout blues, tall ball or bust it big
02-03 i think, in Charlotte with houser, got lost in song.
I was there. Killer show. Killer two nights. Miss going into Houser shows and feeling the dirty that was on the way. The alphabet show was the night before I think. Naked dude in lot running from cops. Nice two nights. NC shows are the best.
I second that. That Charlotte was my first Cortez. I got transported in the music that night. Dream Song
Houser wasn't alive in 03. It was November of '01 and yes. Houser played with JJ's band and JJ sat in for Chainsaw City and Cortez
Yeah get on your tip toes!
Brand new hose being broken I’m !!, wow. Anyone notice Jerry, wearing no shoes or socks Lol??.
I didn’t know Jerry had any shoes
Im in original recording and shows as captain and tennile.
for those of you who thought jerry’s scarf made this legit: you were wrong
THANKS! WSMFP!!!
Check out the "Interstellar Boys".....jams,jams,jam!
Is that Jimmy Herring up there with WSP guys and Jerry J ?
Sure looks that way. Also just noticed Jimmy seems to be touring with John McLaughlin at present...
Good call
Dude, Jimmy's been guitarist for panic since 2006... did the earth swallow you up or something? (See what I did there?) 😈

That was me in strawberry wine.
WSMFP 👍👍👍👍
Conrad on Cortez.
What a killer! 👹
Sadly there's such an overwhelming amount of dreck out there most people never get to hear this!
He's supporting the Drive By Truckers in the UK this year, so will get to play some decent sized venues. I'm looking forward to seeing him.
Unfortunately thats too true but I consider myself very blessed to be one of the lucky people that have been part of this musical journey! I love sharing this world with others and seeing it make a difference for them!!
I dare someone to show me a better cover of Cortez. Show me any band with this level of enthusiasm and dedication to Neil's masterpiece.
Travis Wolf no one can compete w this band! No one
Dave Mattheus band

thumbs up for the band! but aside from Mr. bandana the vocals just don't make it. at least for this song.
J.B.s voice is like wine my friend keep listening.
