so glad you still decided to move and not stay. If you had of stayed, you would never know when the owner would want you to move out again. You are doing an awesome job Mel, just remember it will be over soon! 🥰
My thoughts exactly - also - I'm not prepared to allow her to profit from our right to basic human needs (shelter) any more. I'd much rather give our hard earned money to a landlord who will respect us.
I don’t recall having that many boxes when we first moved to our house 19 years ago. But I do recall the hassle, the stress, the tiredness of getting things in order, to box properly, to declutter et al. To see that many boxes in your houses tells me the stress I had is nothing compared to yours. I wasn’t depressed or had anxiety as you do - so, Mel, I have a lot of respect, love and admiration for you. You’re doing great.
I am so proud of you. Decluttering quickly results in decision fatigue. Your effort despite your feeling challenged shows how strong and dedicated you truly are. The end will come, and although you might not be where you had hoped or planned to be, you have been wildly successful.
lol the cheek to offer a new lease after putting you all through weeks of panic and stress of trying to find a new home during the current rental crisis... either these people are so disconnected from reality that they don't understand how devastating their whims can be or they simply enjoy the power they wield 🙄 Anyway, good on you both for choosing to stick with your new place and leave what sounds like a pretty rubbish landlord 🙌🏻 I'm so impressed with how much you're getting through with the small amount of time you have available! From my experience, once you're safely in your new home and all the deadlines have been reached, there may be a moment where your body just kind of "collapses" because it's been running on stress and adrenaline for so long that now it feels safe, it can finally just rest. Even though there was still things that needed to be done and boxes that needed to be unpacked, I had to just let myself recover for a couple of weeks before getting back into the sorting and decluttering. I hope you're able to allow yourself to rest once you're settled if you need it, even if there are still things that need to be done. It's also much easier to tackle when there isn't that deadline looming over your head, at least for me anyway. 💜💜
Good things better be coming after all this stress and chaos! I need a happy ending to this move! And I'm sure there will be to be honest. I just need to get through February.
When you say you can't wait for your new year to start in March, look back these past few weeks of January at what you have achieved this year so far. You are grinding ! I am lucky to have a husband who helps around the house constantly and with pleasure. I notice your hubby is like that too. What a guy ! Good luck, keep it up, you've got this xxx
March can feel like a long wait, but looking back at what I've accomplished in January definitely makes me feel like I'm on the right track! And yes, my hubby is a superstar when it comes to helping out around the house. I definitely hit the jackpot there!
Your reward will be when your settled in your lovely new home and it’s all organised and clutter free….. my husband was in the army for 20yrs, we moved frequently….keep looking forward 😊
Haha, I can't wait for that reward! I'll probably be doing a happy dance in my clutter-free home, celebrating the fact that I finally found the perfect spot for my collection of novelty mugs. Thanks for the motivation!
I know things are all shook up for all you right now. So glad you know where you are going in the near future. Your family is pulling together and you will make it through the weeks ahead. Prayers and wishing you the best of luck
Well, if there's one thing we've learned from all this shaking up, it's that we're pretty good at holding it together as a family! Thanks for the encouragement and good luck wishes!
Good job on stopping spending habits! That was one thing that I also slowed down considerably when I started decluttering. It now feels like I give myself less stuff to declutter later
This brings back memories of when I was forced out of my apartment a couple years ago, had two weeks to completely go through everything and drive 2000 miles east to what was to be a temporary place. I was brutal in getting rid of things and only took what would fit in my car. My entire life in six boxes. Yeah. Everything did work out, but it was tough emotionally, mentally & physically. Best of luck, Mel!
Yay, great news! Looking forward to seeing the new house and your fresh start! Decluttering, packing and moving is a pain but it'll be so worth it in the end! ❤
Ugh, you're so right, decluttering and packing is such a pain! But hey, at least it's a great opportunity for me to finally get rid of all those random things I've been holding onto for years.
I am so proud of you Mel for pushing through all the chaos and anxiety in moving. Packing is very stressful and also having to declutter would have me in bed hiding under the covers. Can you take some time off from work? I don't know how you do it all. You are very hard on yourself when you feel anxious or a panic attack coming on. You shouldn't be because I don't know how you can avoid it. I know I can't. So again, I'll say how proud of you I am. Please make sure to take care of yourself. So happy you have a new place to go to. Love you! 💕💕
Thank you so much for your heartfelt comment! Your words mean the world to me, and I really appreciate your support. Moving was definitely a challenging time, but I'm glad I was able to push through. Taking time off from work is a great suggestion, and I've scheduled a week off to clean this old house and settle into the new house... then I have some time off again over Easter Thank you again for your love and encouragement. Love you too!
Mel, I am so glad that you got your new home secured. I am looking forward to seeing you and your family in New place. Keep strong and continue moving forward. Your doing a great job.
So happy that things are finally starting to come together. You’re doing an amazing job of decluttering, you will get there. Sending love and positive energy to you and your family.❤❤❤❤
So glad you are getting everything straightened out for the move. I'm sure it will take some more adjustment once you get moved in, but one day at a time and you'll get it done I'm sure!
I can’t believe the current landlord offered you a new lease 🤦🏻♀️ I’m so glad you declined lol also half way through when you said grab a box or laundry, I grabbed a bottle of water and laid down on bed to watch you 😅 Well done on breaking the spending but remember if you fall off the wagon it’s ok as long as you get back on. Sending you hugs and energy to get through this move 🤗💜

awesome job Mel! my suggestion is ask all members of your family to help with the packing since your kids are not toddlers i’m sure you all can make it happen
Hi Mel, I'm so happy for you that you got that house which you told us in your last vlog and that you know also when you will be moving to the new place. You and your husband can do it I'm sure of it and with the little help of the children. Anyhow both of you did a big and good job as a team that's what is important. You can do it, Mel. 😊🤗💝🌷
Thanks for the vote of confidence! With the way our kids run around, they might end up doing most of the heavy lifting during the move! 😄 But seriously, we appreciate your support and can't wait to settle into our new home.
Haha, you won't believe the struggle I had to go through to get all those boxes in one place! It was like a game of Tetris, but with toys. Thanks for cheering on J and his dwindling collection!
I suggest talking to your boss & doing 3-4 days a week over the next 4 weeks so you have time & it’s not as stressful. You aren’t just moving, you’re moving out of house you have been in for over a decade. Doing great! ❤
Whohooo it's on! Great news about the current landlord releasing you early Mel. The sorting seems endless, but it will end .... honest 😛 Sending all my love and hugs 🤗🤗🤗
good decision to move out this proporty. the landlord has no idea what he wants, so when you never now of you can stay. so happy for you for the new home. every moving box in one place is also a good decision it gave you a sort of calm in your home and that you have control over everything. step by step you come there. enjoy the moment of packing a little bit more. say to your self that you have special time with the kids when you packing there rooms. and get exciting for your new house. it is hard i know. but it take away anxiety so it is worth of trying. you have now a negative feeling and i hope that can be changed because i love to see you happy. big hug Ellen
I really appreciate your support and understanding, Ellen. Moving can be stressful, but I'm trying to make the best of it and create some special moments with my kids during the packing process. Your kind words mean a lot to me. Sending you a big virtual hug!
Fingers crossed that you achieve your dream of owning your own home in the future , We own ours and have been her 27 years this July and it was the best decision ever as you are not under a landlord . Well done on all of the decluttering it must be hard going in that heat ,x
I can't believe after all the drama they offerred for you to stay - I wouldn't either well done for you standing your ground! I'd laugh if in two years when your ready to buy this old property comes up LOL
lol. I reckon once the real estate sees how much needs doing in order to charge the rent they'll be asking they'll have major regrets. Having said that - they will probably still rent it out as is because people just want somewhere to live which is soooo sad. The more I think about this - the more I'm sure the landlord has been mistreated by the real estate agent.
I’m sorry if you mentioned it and I missed it, but do the kids need to move schools as well? I hate moving so much, especially the changing of contact details everywhere. 😭
Hej Mel, at approx 13.50 in this vid, there is a picture of your kitchen table. And on it is like a bamboo cutlery/condiment Holder. Do you know where I can find one like it?
I think the major stress of moving has been the uncertainty and open ended deadlines. Now that we know what we're doing and where we are going it feels less burdensome - but yes - the Swedish Death Cleaning is something I'll explore in time.
No. I deliberately don’t specify what I do for work for privacy reasons. Not just mine but the people I work with. All I will say is that it is in the human services field and I have some of the equivalent qualifications as a social worker. I hope you understand and don’t take offence. I appreciate the curiosity though. Thanks sooo much for your support.
my ADHD makes me very impulsive when it comes to spending money iam now debt free after moving house and to a new area we cleared all our debt but we do still have a small morgage but we are so much better off sometimes a move is the best thing x
I realize that it’s too late…but I would have thought it would have been so much more efficient to pack up one room at a time… maybe a little less stressful for you ? I know that you probably get decision fatigue…
We kind of have. We did the kitchen. Then my bedroom and office. Then each of the kids rooms. Then the dining/ play space. I’m not sure how much more “one room at a time” we could have been? The other reality is that I had no functional organization system that meant everything that belonged in a certain category was in a defined category. We also just had to do what we had to do because we have to live our full lives around packing and the stress of not knowing where we were going to live. There are for sure better and more efficient ways to do what we have done though. 😂
Haha. That definitely wouldn't work for me... I have never ever managed to achieve 'a home for everything', let alone 'everything in its home'. If I had packing one room at a time would make sense, but absolutely not with so much random stuff in each room. Good suggesting for those who it would work for, though. 😁

Yup - I 100% understand the power imbalance in the landlord/tenant relationship. You deserve to live in a well maintained home.
You are doing so well Mel. I know you are tired ❤
You can do it! Moving sucks. I never want to do it again. But you can do it!
It's the worst!

my suggestion is ask all members of your family to help with the packing
since your kids are not toddlers i’m sure you all can make it happen
Yeah - they have been asked to do their part - but since they have no concept of what it means to move house - we have to do the most of it.
They will be better prepared in 2 years when you buy. 😊 @@MySemiSortedLife
