I wish i had the confidence to ride on the road. But like you said to much trafic. I stay on the mountajn bike. Going to ride the strawberry line in Somerset next week have you been there? Enjoyed the video again 😊

You are right it is pretty damn scary at times on the roads but its also very rewarding as I visit far more places on the road bike than I do on the mountain bike but that could just be be of course as I don't take the mountain bike anywhere in the car I just ride from home. Don't get me wrong I love being on the mountain bike but that also throws up its own problems of so many people walking dogs and not being in control of them ☹️ I have been to Somerset and we love it there but we haven't cycled the Strawberry line (love the name) maybe we will some day 😁

That's it on the road . Things can happen real fast when you least expect it . if you are doing 30 mph plus its a diff game to riding the MTB on a trail.

Yes you are so right much higher speeds both from yourself and all the traffic around you. You need to be hyper aware all the time just to stay alive

wow, close call indeed..! i find 4x4s and white van man always go fast in the country lanes...even when i'm driving these days i tend to take my time as in no hurry, plus at the moment I'm working from home (making the most of it as that could change, and the commute to work is a nightmare..newcastle!)
think I'll go for a bike ride tomorrow as we're going down dalton park then down the beach for tea..
this may not affect you, but the bridge (over the wear) down in wolsingham is being closed for upto 22 weeks in july for repairs etc...think you maybe able to walk / cycle over it however...will be a nightmare for people at hamsterley as they road there (from the A68) is also closed - not sure why, but it's been closed for what seems a few years now...
that monkey pub - there was a crash there last november where this lad was driving down and car just pulled out of the junction and he had to crash into the wall, sadly he died and was only 19...almost without exception cars will pull out when I'm driving / passenger going down there...they seem to wait, look and still pull out!!
poor stoat...see loads of roadkill when out too...i've only hit a few small animals, but breaks my heart when i see a dead deer...my partners daughter saw one on the fell road not long ago, it was still breathing... she called the police who said to call the RSPCA and i think they were going to get the council out...sure it was a friday teatime so not sure when they would have went out.. :(

Oh yes a lot of vans drive like idiots especially the delivery drivers as they had a tight schedule. I am the same as you and I am in no hurry when driving and never go above speed limit in villages etc but because of that I often get tail-gated as people are always in a rush ☹️ There are road works ALL OVER the place at the moment its hard to find a route for my road bike without them.
I once hit a deer at night and I phoned the police when I was home as it went into the side on a steep embankment so I wasn't going to rummage about down there at night but its awful and it nearly wrote the car off 😲

@@JohnonaBike yeah, i was driving slow today as telling my lady stories of when i lived in murton etc, and was great to be back around there...got a couple of t-shirts too as i had just bagged a load of old ones for the charity shop.. :)
there was an accident on the a19 and we were delayed by 30 minutes...
biggest thing I've hit (or rather it crashed into me) was a phesant - was on the A68 when heading towards kiln pit hill (towards corbridge way), it was an early frosty morning, and I'm glad a car was coming the other way as it meant i couldn't try and change lane to avoid it - as i reckon i could have easily skidded off the road..! it knocked my front number plate off too, and was paranoid about driving home from work in case i got pulled by a cop!

I think that A19 crash was a motorbike accident ☹️ Yes I have also hit a pheasant and its awful, I have a project car years back (Nissan 200sx) and a pheasant rand straight across a field I could see it as there was no hedge and ran straight into the front of my car. It was like the road runner and seemed to be aiming for my car 😯🤔 Luckily it did not cause to much damage but imagine that on a bike 😲 which is why I am very wary going down hills
