You’re the only TH-cam channel that I let the commercials run from the beginning all the way to the end, I hope that helps
It does ! Thank you so much 🙏🏾🌱 very much appreciated it .. every little thing helps
Good video, good advice, straight to the point with no waffle. Thank you.
Thank you and welcome .. 🌱🙏🏾
I have been growing zucchini for over 35 years and this is the first year trying the upward growth method. Thanks for the videos. The plants are looking great so far. :)
Wow ! That's a long time , and great ! Happy your growing Vertically! It's such a great way 🌱 and your welcome! And thank you 🙏🏾🌱
I’m curious how you are going now a few weeks later. Still good with new method?
@@beritbunny I am not doing well with it. The stalks are heavy and two have snapped (one or two very small fruit on them). I just don't think that I am taking the time to do it right, but between work and responsibilities, Not much left :) Anyway, I am going back to just letting them be this year and may try again next year. Our season in the NW is too short to make mistakes and recover. I do enjoy your videos, though. Thank you :)
@@lyndao8300 thanks for letting me hear about your progress, Lynda! As a heads up, I’m just an amateur gardener-it’s my first year having some plants, 2/3 are in containers, 1/3 are in my neighbor’s beds-he kindly loaned me a little space. Anyway, I’m just another viewer who read your comment moment some time ago, then happened to read it again (guess I was re-watching the video because of the topic.) I was curious how it was going for you, especially since you have such a long history in the hobby-so I thought I’d inquire. I’m not Green T., though. But he can see our conversation. We also experienced some setbacks; I feel excited for next year about some points already!!
@@beritbunny I am also an amateur. Years of growing does not make you an expert! LOL. Every year I try something new. Every year I have a fail. Took 15 years to learn how to grow corn. Ha. I have a larger garden now, 50'x50', so I have lots of room for the regulars and the ability to try new things. This particular method didn't really work for me as I don't have a lot of time spend in the garden and I have to use that time wisely. My stalks kept breaking, and I live in the NW, so my season is unforgiving. I am back to growing squash the regular old, leave alone way. Tips that I have for containers? Tomatoes need a lot of water in containers or you get blossom end rot or something that looks like it. Fine line, though. Too much water is bad. You learn to feel it. I never learned that so my tomatoes go in the ground. I have tried container cukes and been slightly successful with those. Corn likes nitrogen (blood meal, bat guano) at planting, knee high and tassel I side dress. Perfect ears every time. I grow slicing cukes on trellises now and they do so much better! No disease or pests. Green beans, I only use Fortex now. Best green bean ever, but protect young shoots from Rabbits (cute but evil). That is really all that I kind of know. Check FB for local gardening groups. Always lots of knowledge for your area. Every area is so much different, its crazy. I have lived in Texas, California and Washington and growing veggies is completely different in each place.
Great advice! Thanks for your time!
Welcome! And thank you 🙏🏾🌱

GREAT VIDEO FROM A PRO.
Glad you liked it! 🙏🏾🌱
Thank you! that was very helpful and to the point.
Glad to hear that..your welcome and have a wonderful day
Super helpful! Thos is my first time growong zucchini and i didn't know if i needed to stake it. I just ordered that soft coated garden twine so im all set! Also your daughter and her huge pig are sooo cute!
Thank you so much 🌱🙏🏾
Growing zucchini vertically is such a great way!
great info this will help with summer squash also my favorite
Glad to hear that 🌱 squash is very tasty when grow at home..
I liked this before watching the video. Your thumbnail got me. I’m about to transport my seedlings today. 🌱
Thank you, I very much appreciate that .. 🙏🏾🌱 have fun ! I love transplanting
Just what I was looking for
Nice.. glad to hear that 🌱
Crowded my zucchini plants this year and trying to grow them up a stake. Thanks for the info.
Your welcome ! Best way ever... happy gardening 🌱
First time growing zucchini. Thank you! I also never thought to use a weed film around my plants. I mulch, but that only helps a little with weeds. I bet the weed film also keeps bugs away from the fruit. What a great idea!
Absolutely right. Great idea for mulching it helps keep the soil moist too The soul doesn't run dry too fast. Thank you so much for sharing this always appreciated... Have a wonderful day 🌱
Thank you sir
Your welcome 🌱
Great tutorial! Usually mine flop all over. Unfortunately, "Pepper the Pet Pig" stole the show! Wish we had land/space for a pig. Gentle giants. Love em!
Thank you so much.. pepper is so smart and funny...
Very nice presentation, Sir!
Thank you 🙏🏾🌱
Nice!
Thank you
This video just happened to come up which is great because it can be pretty windy here in north Texas. My zucchini plants don't know which way is up and I was already thinking of staking them!
Oh nice! Glad it could help.. 🙏🏾🌱
Yep love this idea. Also tomato cage works right? If you wrap that bottom part of the main stem where it meets the soil with athletic stretchy wrap it keeps the vine borers out. Thanks!
Yes absolutely 💯... Your welcome and thanks for sharing with us 🌱
Sorry to put this here but do you have any vids on parsley and basil? Also love growing zucs vertically since I've watched your vids, its so much easier.
Thank you Thomas, I did have some basil left back in a container that I have to harvest.. will check on tomorrow, maybe a quick video too .. I need to do more herbs , maybe early fall for sure ..
Great information...i would like to see hiw you deal with the squash bugs and if you ever just prune off the leaves with eggs or treat them... thank you
Thank you , so far I mix soap and water in a spray bottle , I sprayed it underneath all the leaves... I will order some bottles of Neem oil .. I spray that under the leaves, it helps a lot..
This was the most helpful video I've seen so far! I couldnt understand how to get past this first tie until now, so thank you.
Also sorry to hear about your squash bugs. They took over my garden last year and even though we killed hundreds of eggs, it was still out of hand and ruined a lot of our harvest. Best of luck to you!
Your welcome! And thank you so much ! Sorry they got to your garden.. I have no more bugs right now, but soon they will come heavy, SVB and squash bugs.. good luck with both of us ! Lol
Can you do squash like that as well thanks for sharing
Sure .. I actually recently did a video like this.. hope you like it 🙏🏾🌱

The garden soft coated twine that you used to support raising up your zucchini, is it the garden flexible wire that you have listed in your list of things? I want to be sure to order the right thing. And your video was very helpful.
Yes, those are flexible and twist wires with soft coated over.. .. They are easy to use and comes in really handy.. and thank you 🌱
great info, can you please advise where to buy that twine
thanks
Sure I got them on Amazon here is the link

Fantastic method, very efficient ! For my containers, I know you have recommended Miracle-Gro Moisture Control in the past but would any all purpose compost mix be suitable .. even maybe with some vermiculite/perlite. I am wanting to do several containers and so it'll add up .. I'm on a budget lmao, any recommendations for cheaper soil mix would be much appreciated
Thank you , I know these soils add up to so much money, I reused some soil every time I make home compost , basically bringing them back to life , I was using this Espoma Organic Vegetable
Soil but it's too expensive too , all these websites sell expensive , you have to check your local store or Walmart, bjs cheaper price , you could always start making home compost or buy organic fertilizer and add to your soils that would help ... 🙏🏾🌱
I'm going to try this. My only concern is if the vine borer gets in then I can't cover the vine with dirt to start new roots.
That will only work when going on the ground, I grow it vertically that's going to be tuff , by growing vertically you get to see any sign right away from vine border or squash bug attack.
Do you have any issues with squash vine bores? I’m in NJ and all my squash plants got smoke from the main stem last year.
Oh yeah every year! Vine borers and squash bugs .. I use Neem oil spray and BT spray.. also manually remove them almost every day .. it sucks but I do save most of my plants
Guyanese accent jumping out lol just kidding, good video!
Lol yep 💯 ... Thanks Norris 🌱
I think it would be cheaper to buy electrical wire and cut your own wire to the length needed. Just saying. Good Video 👍
Nice N that's a good idea too .. thanks for sharing Jeff 🌱
It works but not ideal as it is not as soft as the garden wire he uses. The electrical wire tends to rub the stem and damage it. I speak from experience.
Can you do this with salt and pepper cucumbers?
Yes you can ( you will have to do some pruning) but I would do a cage or a Trellis .. like a home made 6-7 ft string Trellis ..
How do u treat the squash bug eggs? Barbara
I try to remove the eggs with a lint roller , or I mix soap with water in a spray bottle spray under the leaves.. another thing you could use is neem oil spray, spray it under the leaf and the and on the plants
What kind of wire are you using?
These are the ones I use ..works well
Had it for 2-3 years now

One of my zucchini leaves are growing bent but other than that looks healthy, is that an issue?
Double check under the leaves for any bugs or make sure no brown spot on the leaves.. if nothing should be good ..
But the fruit isnt supported. Wont the strm break when it grows?
Nope it holds on pretty strong..
Can you grow zucchini/squash vertically on an arch?
Yes you can just have to guiding the plant
I'm growing mine indoors, what's the smallest pot size you recommend? One of my plants has 3 Zucchini's started and it tipped the plant over completely!!! (currently in 3 gallon)
So 3 gallons is too small I would say .. at least 5gallon .. cuz these are big plants , Bug roots. They grow big leaves and fruits. They need enough space, soil , nutrients and water .. try to move them into 5 gallon or bigger containers
@@Greentgarden thank you! Love the videos! Going to throw my healthy one in a 7 gallon and stake it up!!!
Your welcome! And that's a great idea ! Add some fresh solid and water after transplant
My zuccini is very large at this poinr, about 3 times the size of the one in this and is starting to tip over. Would it be ok to stake it at this point? Would that risk damaging its roots?
Should be ok , just take your time and tie it upward on a stake , might have to tie 3 different spots so it doesn't break ..
So even with staking… my plant snapped…is it any way to save the plant? It still has 3 leaves left
Oh no so sorry 😞 ! I am not sure , try to guide it and tie as the plant grows, let's keep our fingers crossed 🤞.. keep an eye on it for the couple days.. 😞🌱
I have a lot of issues with ants. Do you think this might help?
Yes and also sprinkle cayenne pepper powder.. 1-2 times a week...
@@Greentgarden thank you! Every year I only get two or three zuchs cuz of those darn ants. I’ll be trying your method for sure and using cayenne!
Yeah thats not good , check your local dollar store for cayenne pepper .. and start applying it all over your plant all of your garden.. Just be careful if you have pets
Don’t throw away the flowers. You can use them to make squash blossoms quesadillas.
Yes, you're absolutely right... Thanks for sharing 🌱
The way that zucchini at 3:10 stand up straight and did not touch the ground kind of gives me a dirty mind😜
