She's using humanity for her own ends. On top of that, she and Elias had different definitions for "strengthening humanity": Elias wanted to imbue people with more power; Lilith wanted to cull the week, leaving only the strongest. You can see Elias recognize this difference in the cutscene where a follower is eaten by wolves, even he was disgusted and began to lose faith.
I just don’t understand Lilith’s role as antagonist in Diablo 4. Her aim was just to protect sanctuary and destroy his father which is a good thing right? what are they planning with Mephisto’s soulstone and why did they bring it back to sanctuary knowing that no one has ever successfully resisted the influence of a soulstone. Where the hell is Tyrael?
Liliths role as a antagonist was that the method by wich she chose to protect sanctuary was corrupting humanity and placing them in the crosshairs of both heaven and hell... Mephistos soulstone is probably gonna corrupt Neyrelle and posses her to reincarnate into earth, as that was clearly his plan from the begining of D4, and Tyrael might actually be dead, considering he became mortal during diablo 3, and was waaaaay older than Lorath Nar was on Diablo 3, and Lorath looks old as fuck in Diablo 4
Lilith just wants the war to end, and for her that means taking down both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells. To do that she needs her children to become stronger. People in peacetime rarely keep up the powers they have from war after the first generation. But with Inarius escaping (or set free), she was deemed a threat and becomes the unwilling antagonist. With Mephisto corrupting Nyrelle, Lilith certainly would have pursued her to take the soulstone. This would mean that we had to defeat her to stop it.
Inarius led the people to believe that Lilith was the antagonist just so he can come back to the high heavens. I still think Lilith was just trying to protect humanity
