So happy as a Canes fan. Literally almost started crying when I saw the Isles at 11. So many years of disappointment with nothing to look forward to. Svechnikov will actually make our forward group daunting. This team is finally almost complete

so true... its not like any other team have never gotten number one pick in last 68 years... oh wait Vancouver canucks... never won 1 number 1 overall pick ever....
This has to be the best weekend in Buffalo history.. INSANE NFL draft, #1 Pick in the NHL like how could this weekend get any better?? It can't. It literally can't. LETS GO BUFFALO!!
Man, Dahlin and Ristolainen as your top pair, Ryan O'Reilly and Jack Eichel as your two top centers... Hopefully they get a goalie or Lehner turns it around. After 2015 they deserved this pick too. Edit: Nearly forgot Middelstadt too... Wow...
With that cap hit I think he is nearly impossible to move, but also Mittelstadt needs room to develop. Also Ullmark hasn't shown anything special anymore.
But in all seriousness if buffalo can’t get 70 points or more and even do good than they deserve to stay at the bottom for the rest of their lives seriously. You’ve been rebuilding for so long and yet haven’t done any good
The NHL should really stop selecting positioning based on the previous year. They should do a point system based on the last 3 years of each team. This way a good team that had only one bad year won't get a high pick and it will stop teams from tanking because they'll have to tank for more than one year before they eventually get a first overall pick.
- The NHL will do the draft order however they see fit. Granted, your idea might not be so bad( basing the draft order on each team's previous 3 years ). They did that for Sidney Crosby's draft year, well mainly because of the lockout that year so they went with a draft order based on the previous 3 seasons prior for each team.
ckendall67 It's how FIFA selects their team rankings, except they go with the last five years. I just look at this draft and think that there is no way Montreal should be as high as 3. They finished 14th, 4th, 13th in their conference the last 3 years, yet they have a 3rd overall pick this year. How can they have that without finishing bottom 3 recently?
yeah this idea is a much better system. IMO teams like the habs and blackhawks had no reason to be as bad as they were this year, and in no way deserve a better draft pick
I'm sorry but montreal deserves that pick. They dont have any depth and the defence was full of top 6 defencemens. The only reason they did well last year was because of Carey Price...
Rasmussen Ristolainan #8 in 2013, Jach Echiel #2 in 2015, and now prob Rasmus Dahlin #1 in 2018. I'm sorry but they don't deserve this pick for the fact that they can't even make playoffs with so called next best players for their team. Hashtag 60 points or less from buffalo next year 😂
SteelCityFilms Buffalo missed playoffs 7 years straight and owns the leagues worst record combined since 2013. Mcdavid won Art Ross 2 years straight and can become first player even to win the lindsay twice before 22. which one sounds like where "stars go to die"? lol
I watched this on a TV at Keybank Center with a group of others. Many stayed back from the Bandits game. lost my voice screaming (I wasn’t the only one) and heard roars around the rink. I then hugged a person I didn’t know. lol Congrats to the Habs for jumping a spot and to Carolina for their draft leap.
Does anyone ever actually witness the dropping of the balls or whatever it is that decides the draft order? It just seems a little suspicious if they just come out of a room and tell us the draft order.
We cant but each team can have a representative in the room if they want. The sabres choose not too tho given the last 2 times they did and they lost lol
Fun fact: if the flames didn't win their last game vs the Knights, then cgy would have gotten the 2nd overall pick. Keep in mind the flames pick goes to NYI.

It is the unveiling of the order for the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, as determined by the draft lottery (which happened off-camera). As a result, now all non-playoff teams are entered into three different draws for the first three picks, with the team finishing last having the best chance at getting the first overall pick and the team closest to a playoff spot having the lowest chance. In this case, Buffalo finished last and won the lottery, so they would have had the first overall pick whether or not there was a draft lottery. Based on their finish, Carolina would have been picking 11th, but they won the second lottery draw and moved up to the 2nd overall pick. Everyone else in between 2nd and 11th overall moves down one spot to compensate. Montreal only moved up one spot, from 4th to 3rd overall. The draft will take place on June 22nd in Dallas. Hope that helps!
No excuse not to. If they are in the lottery again they deserve the same level of hate with Oilers being in the lottery this year. Bigger gap between Dahlin and Svenchnikov compared to the small gap between Patrick and Hischier.
This is different there really wasn’t a consensus number 1 after Patrick got hurt before the draft last year and the Sabres are in desperate need of a good defensemen other then Ristolainen the Sabres D Core quite literally sucked and that was there main issue
RN 95 nicos better!!
Lets go Rangers..
Carolina will be deadly next year. Schevnikov will save the franchise like Crosby did to Pittsburgh.
The atlantic just got more difficult for the Leafs.
Fix scrap lottery Draft please
How come?
