What we failed to mention in the video, is that Toby (the awesome mechanic) confirmed to us that we did the right thing by not driving any further than we did. In fact, he went as far as to say that we were only a few short kilometres away from a potential engine fire. As scary as it was to realise that, we are of course EXTREMELY grateful to still have our beautiful home-on-wheels intact. Thanks everyone for your kind words and support. Safe travels!! Nigel
I recently watched my van go onto 4 tow trucks to different mechanics, to finally spend 10 weeks at Mercedes to cost approx $5k to get a new computer, wiring and fuel pump. It goes like a new vehicle now! Not a good experience. I carry a large suitcase just in case. RACQ was great.
OML yes our worst nightmare 😭 So glad it wasn't something more sinister and ultra expensive. Good to see you are back on the road and happy campers again 😀
Break downs are always a worry. I always have them in the back of my mind when away. Even the little things can muck us around. I had an electric awning fail 12 hours from home and wouldn’t go back in. Luckily for us I had the tools to manually wind it in. Glad you got it sorted.
@@nigelandsueadventures I think it’s good not to get electric. I think I’ll end up replacing mine down the track to a manual wind out awning too. Made a vid of how to wind it in manually in case others get caught out in the same situation . See - th-cam.com/video/51wIXg5GYRk/w-d-xo.html
Great to watch this to get an idea of what might happen in outback Australia. One question - how did you get to Cairns when the van was collected by the tow truck?
Hi Sue and Nigel. I’ve just been watching your old videos and I can’t find the info: what year and model is your van? Is it the extra long and high model? Thanks. Love your videos. Andrew.
@@nigelandsueadventures Thanks for the super quick reply! I’d love a van like yours: it’s a great camper van. You got a bargain at $30K (for the empty van)!
Good afternoon Nigel, I can totally relate to your emotions @19.28, went through the same at work🫣. Sue's statement spot on, told the team I am working, shit happens, what is done is done. Thanks for a real life vlog. Have a great week, slowly going through your vlogs
Thank you. We want to show that vanlife isn’t just beach sunsets! Hope you’re enjoying our videos, we post a new one every Sunday at 8am AEST. There are some beauties coming up!
glad it was sorted quickly .. nothing worse than a little problem that takes hours and hours to find .. good to have decent breakdown cover
Thanks Kelly, yes $400 for the year and money well spent!
Yep, it happens 😫😤😳
How bizarre!!! 🤷♀️glad it worked out ok 👍 Thanks for your Sister 🤩🙏 On the road again 🚐 💋✨
Thanks Jen! Yes we were super lucky, if we had to break down, at least we were close to a trusted mechanic, and somewhere to stay!
Toby did well to spot the problem!
I hope you are getting kickbacks from RACQ. You gave them a good few plugs!
Haha, we were just so happy they looked after us so well.

Oh gosh. That’s painful. Yeah I never thought about having a bag. I have to fly to Brisbane in a couple of weeks, will have to borrow one!!

Thanks Shauna, it could have been so much worse!

Oh gosh what a nightmare! We have to install our awning soon. It’s not electric though.

We rode in the tow truck with the driver. It was cool, he was a really nice bloke and we had a great conversation.
Awesome! @@nigelandsueadventures

Hi Andrew. It’s a 2011 516CDI. LWB and high roof. 4x4.
Thanks for watching!!

@@andrewroffey yes we were very lucky! We bought at just the right time, two years ago
Hi, I’m glad everything worked out with the van. Did they happen to sort out the coolant temperature issue.
We still need to get the radiator flushed out. We’ve been watching it closely, and even in this crazy heat it hasn’t gotten that hot again
What a pain in the bum!! How long were you without the van in the end?
Only about three days. In the big scheme of things it worked out well
@@nigelandsueadventures oh that's good! Great excuse to visit your sister 🙂
@@carladalton6220 yeah I’ve spent a month with her now
