How to use RIGHT Function in Excel

In this Excel Function Explained video series, I’ll clarify how to use right function in excel. Excel Right function is mostly used to extract text in excel. But there are a lot of uses of Right function in excel. One important thing to remember that whenever you use this function, it’ll starts from the Right of your strings (Text, symbol or number).
Things you can do using Right function in excel is to tell excel to remove characters from Right, extract text from cell, extract text from a string directly from the formula, extract numbers from strings, etc. The opportunity is endless here. This is why we should pick up how to use Right formula in excel. Another great aspect of this function is that you are allowed to use Right function in excel vba also.
Let’s move forward and learn how to use Right formula in excel.
The Function looks like this =RIGHT (Text, Number of characters)
The Right function has two parameters or arguments.
1. Text: in this parameter, we need to either write the text or specify the cell from where we need to extract the text.
2. Number of Characters: Here we will specify how many characters we need to extract. By default, it is set to one. That means if you omit this parameter excel will extract that last character from your data range or text string.
Now there are two points you need to remember before using this function.
1. It considers space, decimal or any symbol as a character.
2. It always starts counting from the Right.
This is how to use Right in excel. Remember, using Right function in excel you actually tell excel formula to extract text.
