I see Moriarty as a guy who isn't really attracted to a gender, but to who the person is, and what they have to offer. Which is why I loved the toxic dynamic between Sherlock and Jim.
Why were people giggling like it's such a taboo topic? Like Andrew said, sexuality is a very serious topic, and it's really just a normal question to ask someone if their character is gay or not. Also Moriarty is hella gay.
I think people were giggling because of the idea of talking about fanfiction stuff with one of the actors of whom the character is often in these fanfictions (don't know if that was grammatically correct, sorry if it wasn't); being French, I understood the question and I think from the way it was asked and the moments people were reacting, and also from how I know French fandoms and the way they're usually very open minded, it was more about fan excitment than mocking :)
potentially because a lot of people in France are bigots... ( well, anywhere, but I just speak of what I see..) and homosexuality, as well as in many parts of the world, is still pretty taboo.. there are great and very followed social movements that goes against lgbt rights so that's quite a cultural thing and people would rather giggle at it than you know, consider it normal... And also because that's such a random question, also that person asks it in a pretty cringy way themself, so.. yeah, it doesn't help.
Well I don't agree with you, not saying that there are no bigots in France, I know there are, from how they stare at me and my queer friends in the street, from the reactions I sometimes get when I talk about my gender or orientation, but I feel like in the context of a geeky, quite young fandom such as Sherlock's, they are definitely not a majority, like, really not. Also from the way people clap at the end, I think it's safe to say that they are not especially intolerant and seem to agree with what Andrew said

Aya I'm Ace and I can perhaps answer for myself as it's a broad spectrum. I personally can recognise someone as beautiful and I have been in relationships and worked a compromise, even, with people who want to have sex. As I say I find people attractive much like I would enjoy looking at a piece of art or a painting, but I have no sexual desire for them or anyone. Sex doesn't disgust me, some Aces it does - when I engage in it, the best I can tell you is it's like playing a board game or cards or something. It's an activity but not something I particularly enjoy. However, as I said, I'm not adverse to sex so I have done it, but more often than not I fake enthusiasm. To me if I really like someone otherwise it's a small compromise :) But Asexuality is a huge spectrum, similar to what autism has - it's basically a grouping word for low of no sex drive, or aversion to sex altogether because of disgust. You may get people who enjoy kiss cuddly stuff, you may get some who like foreplay but not full sex and that's all okay. Some wil say a true Ace has no sexual attraction but I don't think that's true, I think there is degrees to it. Hope that helped! :)
So Andrew Scott himself is gay, and he's talking about if Moriarty is gay. Love this so much. He's just saying that Moriarty can be interpreted as however the hell you want.
I absolutely loved the way he answered this question. While I love many actors they always seem to view these topics as inappropriate or just avoid them altogether and it kind of makes me mad bc it's just a question of personality. Andrew not only took it seriously but also answered it like any other question about a character he's played. Another reason to appreciate him more!!

I think as other people mentioned before he's either sapiosexual or he is somewhere on the scale between pansexual to demi sexual. I'm not sure. Intelligence probably matters more than personality to him but Sherlock's personality played role in Jim Morality being fascinated, because he is different from others. The reason I mentioned demi- sexual is because he probably isn't attracted to a lot of people despite being very flirtatious. He likes to mess with people. So who knows if he even has a preferred gender, pansexuals can have that.
what people often do on social media is reducing a character (wich is supposedly a person with a complex background and a complex mind just like every single individual on earth) to their sexuality, or specifically to a gay relationship they may be involved in. The comments below the video are just a bunch of people saying "yes, he's this or that sexuality!" which just proves the point. it's disturbing to see how much fetishization of gay relationships is going on on social media
Such a good answer. It is up to the audience to interpret it how they see fit- the character is there to provide them entertainment and can fit into whatever that person wants, allowing them to form a closer relationship with the show. After all, Moriarty isn't an actual human being. He is a character, made from fiction. So using the fiction from your own experiences or preferences isn't a bad thing.
i love him ????? so much ????? his speach was amazing,, he is so down to earth and well spoken,, and besides all of that, a phenomenal actor. ugh i love him to pieces

So, which sexuality is he playing Moriarty as? I just endured minutes of abrasive giggling and I feel like I didn’t even get an answer to the question. It’s all very valid what he said and I agree with it, but still, give us a definitive answer to quell all the projecting!
I love Molly. ❤
that's wonderfully put
Is Jim and Andrew two different people? Are you sure? Like really does anyone know?
"It's a thin line between love and hate " Doesn't it sound familiar? Ellie and Juice's "Hate me"
Пожалуйста, сделайте русские субтитры!(

Don't get how the question was funny? It's a serious question...
I think they were laughing about fanfiction being mentioned
@@MissAyame89 yeah, well, Andrew seemed hella uncomfortable
@@MissAyame89 woah dude, chill out, sexuality isn't something to joke about. Yeah it was the gay fanfiction they were laughing about, but it clearly made Andrew uncomfortable because we all know about him and his sexuality and honestly, as a gay person, we hate it when we are fetishized and that's what they were laughing about.
