Just saw "The Ventures: Stars on Guitars" and they mentioned this song. This is the first time I've ever heard it, so thank you!

Cool! Perfect Pop - for any time in the 60's. I like it.
    What an era. ;o)

This is the correct version. The other one doesn't have the lead guitar.

Interestingly, Mel Taylor wrote Part 1 as a guitar feature, to show off the heavy fuzz tone. The main reason Part 2 sounds the way it does is two-fold: Don Wilson returned the favor so Mel could be featured on drums more, and EMI (who now owns the masters) wanted to release both parts in stereo, only found the multi-tracks to Part 2, and in remixing that track, either discovered the overdubs were already missing or somehow inadvertently erased them. Which leaves the “backing tracks”.

This was played at John Belushi's funeral...

The irony: Both John and Dan HATED doing the Killer Bees sketches.
Second irony: An even more legendary “sketch” resulted from their frustration with doing the Killer Bee’s.
So it boggles the mind that The Ventures - and this two part single - may have inadvertently inspired…wait for it…
      The Blues Brothers.

Well the track on my CD doesn't have that guitar. I feel cheated. Why do they do that?

I always wondered about that . I still have this original 45, but it's barely playable as we wore it out years ago.
