The Japanese Akita is thousands years old dog breed from Japan where it lived in isolation for generations. It got into USA in 20th century, where it evolved into new separate dog breed. The main differences are in the size, head type and coloration, but you can also find subtle differences in temperament or health of the American Akita and Japanese Akita.

My Akita isn't as fuzzy as the ones here. He is tan and white. And a large head. But has a straight coat. But we got him last summer. He was tied to a tree in the heatof last summer. No food or water fell in love at first sight

I've found no proof that an American/Dewa Akita was mixed with a Mastiff or a German Shepherd. The video called, "5 Akita Myths" points out that the Akita's given to Helen Keller and those brought to the US were never mixed with any other breed.
