And this was a time when no one wanted to hear a woman’s opinion unless she was the queen but Sarah was no craps given on that. I can imagine that some of her friends and even her cousin Abigail wanted to tell her “ shut it for once “ because people who are forthright and honest are often seen as hurtful and mean and frustrating to deal with but this is one way Sarah stands out because she didn’t buy into the social subjugation of her gender of that time

It’s worse than ever before. Try being an honest middle aged woman just online. I mean HONEST, not what society deems correct. Crime, demographics, elites, women’s current vanities and ridiculous need to act like men etc. see how far that goes.
@@ChasityBasedMama-wd4cg back in the medieval times speaking your mind could mean as a woman you would be punished by the men in your life. It was worse back then.
If you weren’t submissive, it was worse for you as woman. Nowadays women can speak our minds more. Some countries and some people even in my country, have a backwards mindset about it. In the us and a lot of other countries at least, a lot of us women can speak our minds more. Doesn’t always mean we are trying to be like men. It just means we believe just like men have a right to say their thoughts, so do we. I love learning about history but I’d rather live in the period we live in now than back in the past.

There’s where she went wrong. Telling the queen to be quiet but really, couldn’t Sarah have been happy for Abigail? I mean, she was her froggin cousin
I knew a little about her, as I had watched a BBC series back in the 70s, I think, about her with Susan Hampshire as Sarah Churchill. I remember thinking that she treated Anne despicably, and was surprised that Anne had not punished her more severely for lèse majesté. I saw the Favourite but wondered at its accuracy, although I enjoyed the film. Your video filled in a lot of gaps I had about her story, thank you.

I seem to remember a BBC PBS Masterpiece Theater Mini-series called "The First Churchills", with Susan Hampshire and John Neville (forever Baron Munchausen in my heart) in the title roles. With a little poetic license/dramatic flair, it does present a very good grounding in historical fact. It ran during PBS fundraiser season and took awhile before we saw all 12 episodes!

You can now understand why the name Churchill is one synonymous with politics. She was one strong willed woman.

She also tried, but failed to marry off her granddaughter Lady Diana Spencer to Frederick, Prince of Wales
The only reason she gained such influence was because Anne was a lesbian and the pair were lovers. She doesn't sound like a pleasant character.
As much as I'd love this to be true, there's no hard evidence on this, so it can't be stated as fact. There's evidence of a platonic romantic friendship (common at the time), as well as logistical difficulties with her husband always being around. I loved The Favourite and the creative liberties it took, but we really can't know for sure one way or the other.
I kinda hope its proven one day that her and Anne were lesbians. Its kinda awesome to think of a pair of sapphic sistas ruling a whole kingdom together
As Queen Anne had a rather large backside, not difficult to be behind her..
