Clinton Bernard Johnson's interview for the Veterans History Project at Atlanta History Center

In this interview, Clint Johnson recalls his thirty-year military career, particularly his experiences serving as an A-1 Skyraider pilot in the United States Navy in Vietnam. He recalls his growing up years and his fascination with naval aviation even at a young age. He describes carrier operations, rescuing downed pilots, being fired upon by a MIG pilot, and other incidents from his 126 combat missions. He comments that combat was a medium risk activity, but carrier landings at night and in bad weather were high risk. He recalls an incident where he and a squadron mate, Charlie Hartman, shot down a MIG, the first case in which aircraft guns downed a MIG.
