Watched your video prior changing alt. brushes on my 1991 4runner. Appreciated your efforts to perform the task, I couldn't find a procedure for this. I will attempt mine now and hopefully avoid issues you had. Thanks for posting the video.
A de-soldering iron works wonders for removing the solder from the connections. I use the Radio Shack version of the ECG J-045-DS Electric Corded De-Soldering Iron.
This is the wrong way to do this. when you solder the wires the brushes have to be out as much as possible. He's way this will last about 1 month then brushes will be too short. don't lock the brushes then solder have them all the way out then solder them. when they wear out you will have more brushes touching the armature.don't solder them like this guy just did. this is the wrong way!!!

You should've left the brushes fully extended in the holder before soldering them in place.

sounds like every one caught the mistake of not extending full length of the brush inside the holder to have long life. lol

i think buying a new one is less trouble. If you already have soldering iron and time. I would do that.
I replaced the brushes and regulator and still won't charge battery,any ideas why please help??
