Anyone who loves birds and birdwatching should read Richard Powers's wonderful and moving novel "Bewildered". The theme is bigger than just birdwatching, though, it has to do with our life on earth, possible life on other worlds, and our uncertain future. Right on, Mya-Rose! We need more people like you, and not just young folks.
I asked my mum and she remembers a twitching programme shown sometime between early 1996 and mid 1997 as it showed Lee Evans talking about twitching and Pete Fraser talking about TV bird listing
Interesting this could be the documentary I'm after did it involve a frantic chase in a landrover and twitchers hiring a helicopter to get to the Scilly isles before anyone else.
If I remember correctly it was called Twitching, A Very British Obsession. One of the ‘stars’ Gary, poor guy, had a kicking on Birdforum for not spending money on a new carpet for his house which was shown on the program.
@@mya-rosebirdgirlcraig5041 I distinctly remember seeing a twitcher documentary in 1999. I will contact the BBC archives. Some of the technology looks earlier for example use of pagers that was more 90's. Did the BBC say if archive footage was used ?
I think I've found the documentary I was looking for and by the synopsis seems to be the one. It was actually made in 1985 and was called birdman of Jacksonville and it was an American challenging the local twitchers in th UK for the most birds seen, fascinating stuff.
