This was my first introduction to ColecoVision when a friend invited me over and we played this game. I loved it, because you could hoard up those bones and change into the dog at will. If you timed it right, you never needed them early on, along with some strategy. Then, the higher you got you could change into the dog, then continue clearing the board. I dominated the game we played together, and from then on became a fan of ColecoVision.
I loaded this onto my Super Retro-cade and it's a blast. Took a little getting used to with the opening and closing different the colored doors. I think the actual arcade machines had a red, yellow, and blue button on the control panel for the doors. SNES controller have to map the buttons but it works. Anything to play these classic games. Thanks for the video...Semper Fi!
Back in 1980 I owned all of the top ten high scores on this game. No one else was interested, but I enjoyed the fast paced , multiple door closing and opening spin on the maze game.
It seems the same in all of these videos. Play intentionally lousy until your are down to one life and engage the cheat mode. (Unless he did not play 'intentionally" lousy and is just ridiculously bad at it). Doesn't really highlight all aspects of the game if you just walk through enemies and traps.
That was my FIRST actual video game that I kicked ASS in. I scored over 1,000,000,00 points or more at the arcade "Videoworld" in Danville, Virginia as a teen. That is when they called me "Mousetrap Champion" or "Video King"
The sound quality of this game was amazing for it’s time. Not the graphics though, they were dated even for their time. Also, I like to say there are too many buttons. 3 buttons to open the door and 1 to turn into a dog. This game also had the joystick on the right instead of the left. I guess left handed people enjoyed that. But most games had the buttons on either side of the joystick. (Pac-Land, Crystal Castles that kind of stuff) Anyways, I just wanted to comment about the sound quality, but this turned into a long ass comment. Asshole.
I remember this game! I played it a few times when I was on vacation back in the day in Atlantic City. Never saw it anywhere else though. Thanks for sharing!

I used to love mouse trap back in the day. It was on the Atari 2600. Has a lot of similarities to pacman (which on the 2600 was horrible even by early 80's standards) replacing the power pellets with bones to turn you from a mouse into a dog and replacing ghosts with cats and the dots with cheese. If I remember correctly you would have to hit a button as a dog when you came in contact with a cat to scare him away similar to eating the ghosts and only leaving the eyes behind to go back, (although you didn't have to push a button)
No, you have to push the button to turn into a dog in the first place. Pushing the button while already a dog just wastes your supply of bones. And the cats just vanish, they don't turn into eyes. (In the arcade, there are four buttons, one to turn into a dog and three to operate the three colors of doors; on the 2600, you tapped the button to turn into a dog and held it to open/close the doors)

Older original Coin-Operated Arcade Video Games put this new(er) home consoles to S-H-A-M-E!!!

Oh my god, the mosquito tone throughout this video is murderous.
Tell me about it. I can't stand the sound of tape hiss like that sound you're hearing.
I remember this on the 2600 years ago. Though on the heels of the success of Pacman and the same concept it was still fun

Basically, A 'cat & mouse' version of 'Pac-Man'.
Pacman is overrated anyway. MS Pac-Man is far better than the original in terms of GAMEPLAY
As the game progresses to the next level; the VG (video game) characters, on the screen move much faster.
Lady bug same pattern colico
Turns out the game is pretty easy when the mouse is invincible.
Wow, this game has nice sound effects and music!😄🤩😎👌
I ironically came here for the music!

It's amazing how this game managed to play realistic sounds in 1981 of all years.

:
Those sounds in _Mouse Trap_ are not _synthesized,_ they're _digitized._
There's an analogue tape cartridge in the machine.
