a lot of those tripping penalties could be hits or stick lifts instead of poke checks. Timing is everything in chel (similar to reach ins in 2k like you said). Also, don't be afraid to shoot from further away from the net (still inside the zone, but near the top of the circles) not every shot needs to be close to the goalie. Keep grinding!! and remember to aim your shots for the corners of the net
Matt, i really suggest you go to the Hockey Canada training camp. Adds simple moves to your locker and it teaches you the basics. And yes Nasher is basically at the top. Good content creator and skilled player. Professional players like NikkeDangles and EKI are so good it baffles me. If Nasher is a 10 in the scale i am about a 7. So basically where you are aiming to be. Makes me happy seeing content like this. Hyped for 23 btw, only 12 more days for the X-Factor edition to come out. Oh yea remember the training camp haha :D
the cuts to the middle are really good! the thing is, once you're up close a slap shot isn't as effective given how long they take to get off. The best use of a slap shot is when you have a ton of room/time to wind up. when you're in close it's best to get the shot off ASAP so you can get it while the goalie is out of position or at least while you have a moment to score. the snap shot/wrist shot is also usually way better aimed
Sometimes you have to just shoot. Even tho it might not be a clear line to the goal, a lot can happen, whether its the puck deflecting on a stick or skate, or the goalie not seeing it because theres a pile of bodies in front of him. Also dont be afraid to pass backwards, itcan be great to change the tempo of a zone entry or to switch up a defender's coverage. A pass to the player with the most free space is generally the right play
There are 4 types of shots btw, back hand - extremely low power, extremely low accuracy (it sounds like a bad shot, but it is only used when right infront of the net) wrist shot - low power. high accuracy (should be used from any where from the bottom of the circles to right infront of the net) snap shot - medium power, medium accuracy (should be used pretty much from anywhere) slap shot - high power, low accuracy (should be used closer to the blue line)
I’m impressed by how quickly you’ve learned some of the rules and how well you’ve adapted to the pace of play. You’re doing great. A lot of us have been playing these games since the 90s so just keep grinding. Don’t be afraid to shoot more often with the two players on the point as well. They’re the defence partners hanging out on the blue line to keep the puck in the zone. A nice sap shot from out there or even a snap shot could be tipped in front. And when you’re on the rush, skating along the boards into the other team’s zone, look to see who’s open on your other wing to get one-timer passes and shots going. Welcome to CHEL!
Just some tips for shooting, use slapshots when you're up high, wrist shots when you're in the middle, and and snapshot/back handers when you're close to the net, you can aim with the right stick, try and aim low glove/blocked with snap and wrist shots and take slapshots along the ice from up high to get rebounds
More passing in the offensive zone, my friend. Unless you have room to skirt in towards the net (more rare in pro mode) you want to race in, slow it down and find your teammates. Pass it forward if you see a chance to move on a play around the net, and pass it across or to your defensive point men to just slow it down, open up the game more, and then continue passing as you strategize to get a shot off (ideally) between the offensive end circles/hash marks. And always be looking for those delicious rebounds. See my late comment yesterday on your previous video for a better breakdown. But, yeah, try not to over carry the puck. Look for the pass. Possession while passing opens up the zone, makes some room. The trick is to just want to hold onto the puck long to draw a multiple of players your way . . . then “dish it off,” as they say.
I see how in comparison from basketball to hockey you like doing rebounds. Between both face-off circles in your opponent’s zone is called the slot. This area is where slot shots come in handy because the goalie will be screened from the players. Just a good tip.
Hey Matt! A tip for these types of videos is have some quiet background music playing while you play. It makes the viewer more engaged and it is just more pleasant. Another tip is talk a little bit more while you play. It helps us understand you and the game! Keep up the great work Matt! Love your vids
You need to snipe it more. If you use the target in the net that's where you're aiming at and you can snipe it. Take less slap shots as they can easily strip the puck from you and you turn it over 9 times out of 10. Shoot the puck at the net more and you will make more scoring opportunities.
Also wanted to say that when the other team is on the powerplay , you don't have to worry about icing ... You can throw it all the way down the ice and kill time or get tired players off the ice .
i’m here commentating like i’m there 😂 i yelled “that’s a goal!” just before you scored, you’re doing better than me my first couple tries 💪🏼 they pulled their goalie so they could get an extra man (6v5) to try and tie the game, but 9/10 times it never works in real life or game 😂
There ya go Matt, Now your truly seeing how difficult it is to conduct the Offense in the NHL just as hard as it is in the game its Just as hard for them in real life....... Defenses be CRAZY!!! Good Shit Brotha!!!!! Keep em Comming love the Series gotta get them Face-Offs Down with Skill Stick its a bit different Hold left or Right for backhand or forhand Draw dependant on The Centermens handedness and when the Ref Drops the puck you gotta time it right swipe downward and in on the analog stick for a backhand draw and vise versa on a forhand draw. Its tough but you'll get the hang of it!
on faceoffs hold your right stick to either the left or right side (either forehand or backhand side) and when you see the ref’s arm start to move downward, move the right stick back. there’s other things you can do when the ref drops it, like push forward to lift the opponent’s stick, or move your left stick forward to tie them up. hope this helps!
You’re doing alright for a beginner! You could pass a bit more, especially when you’re trying to find shots in the offensive zone, and I recommend the tutorial on faceoffs to learn how they work. (It’s basically Rock Paper Scissors with a few extra steps) You’ll get the hang of it though!
“SHOOOOOOOOOOOT” It’s something hockey fans have been known to shout, especially when their team is on the power play. I found myself thinking it while watching this video. So I’ll echo everyone’s sentiment, shooting through traffic can lead to some wild bounces. I don’t remember if I saw you doing it, but when you don’t have the puck the Skill Stick becomes the Hit Stick
W video . Scored a nice 1st goal and 2 empty nets to get the shutout ! 💪🏽😎 . Saw your progress with One-timer shots ! Nasher is the big homie ! Also G20 is a good example of how to play . His commentary will give you extra insight on scenarios that happen in the game . Loving this ! You're actually doing really well so far ! Can't wait for Be A Pro ! The game slows down and you can really focus when you're just concerned about controlling only your player .
Next time you watching nasher take a look at his camera angle. You can switch yours too so you could see everything from high. Also you wanna take take those guides off too. English not my first language but i try to help you best way i can . And i really enjoy your content!💪🏽
They put a big emphasis on tripping penalties to stop people from mashing poke check. almost to an annoying point. but if you’re in good position it’ll usually work out fine. definitely like 2K. Also when you’re killing penalties icing doesn’t exist. So you can just yeet that thing down the ice and keep the puck away from them and waste their power play time
Yeah I would definitely take less slapshots. Winding up like that when you're in a lot of traffic is a guarantee the other team will just steal it from you
Who’s gonna tell him to stop taking slap shots in front of the net lol? Also try to anticipate where the puck is going and stay in motion when you catch the pass keep it up Matt
You should learn faceoffs too man. It can make a big difference winning faceoffs. Especially once you start playing online (if you decide to) . There should be a tutorial on faceoffs but also if you go online and look up TH-cam videos of people explaining how to win faceoffs that’s helpful too. And with the tripping penalties you made the perfect comparison with 2k and reach in fouls. If you just poke carelessly you will trip them. You gotta learn how to time pokes and how to aim your pokes. There’s a way people do pokes that I think auto aims (RBon Xbox or R1 on PS + click in the right stick) but I’ve never used that personally . I just use RB/R1 plus manually aim it with my right stick. But another thing that will help you is using stick lifts (just press A/X when you’re on the side of a player or even behind and slightly to the side) or just throwing the body. That being said you can take penalties doing both those things as well so you just have to kind of learn as you go what will give you a penalty and what won’t. I’ve noticed you haven’t gotten down just annihilating people with checks yet. You’ll wanna get that down cause that’s a good substitution for pokes because it also takes the player you hit out of the play for a period of time while they’re slowly getting back to their feet. Practicing stick lifts and hits + practicing timing and aiming poke checks will help you a bunch. Oh and also so you know you can turn off that aimer and the little messages that come up when you do things . It’s much better to play with out any on ice trainers . I remember when you tried turning them off in one of the other videos you didn’t actually turn off some of the other ones so go back into on ice trainer and just switch everything to off. I personally keep on offsides warning because sometimes you can’t tell when your player has entered slightly before you but other than that I keep all the other trainers off. To each his own though. All in all though bro you’re doing well. You’ll keep getting better and better
In the last minutes of a game team will pull the goalie in a close game situation to get an extra skater in hopes of scoring a goal out of Desperation to force overtime or set up for another goal to get win(Time-Permitted)
G'day Matt, i just come across your channel. I found your reaction to Rugby?, i was wondering if you have see the game from the land Down Under. It's called AFL that is for (Australian Rules Football) there are 2 vids i would like you to maybe do a reaction to. The 2 clips to check out are "What is AFL" AFL explained & the other is AFL biggest hits, while you at it you should have a look at Women's Rugby & Women's AFL it's entertaining guaranteed.
Didn't watch the whole video so my bad if you talked about this and already know, but when your team has less men on ice than the other due to penalty, there's no icing for your team. So once you get the puck you can just shoot it away from your defensive zone.
Btw it’s kinda odd but if you didn’t know you aim your shot with the L stick and when your aiming and your at a green spot that’s when you wanna take the shot
This comment section is funny.. don't worry your doing fine.. I use to be top 10 in the world.. for versus mode.. your fine.. and yes I'd destroy anyone in this comment section lol
faceoffs in skill stick is diffrent. just push your right stick to the right and hold it there, and when the ref drops the puck, slide your left stick up
Like someone else said the team canada training is really gonna help you learn the game. Thats how i got started in nhl 21
Yeah, he should definitely do that... I didn't buy 22 so I thought it was removed from the game for some reason since he didn't do that first 😅
@@QuackAttack it got removed indeed
Bro need to stop taking slap shot they never ever go in

keep the grind going bro! They pulled the goalie at the end for an extra skater since they were losing

A few times you rolled out from the boards into the slot with Ovechkin. Whenever you do that.. WRIST SHOT!!! Goal almost every time.

hold down on left stick when skating to go faster if you didn’t already know that
you should do the tutorial or free skating to learn all the deckes and everything
Sheeeesh, you really got better 🔥💪🏻

Another W vid. Marners ai was hustling all game
Yuup just keep getting slick with them dangles brother
Hello Matt! I have a video recommendation for you. You should react to NHL Goal Horns.
God Bless you. your reactions are funny.
Cant wait for the packs openings !!
Love these chel vids
It's not like a reach in in the NBA. You can poke all you want, just don't trip the guy lol
you should do more of this gang

You need to look at the tutorial on how wrist shot and toe drag. It will change your life.
Like see how your first goal was a quick wrister
Back to nhl 20 to learn the basics from team canada
In the last minutes of a game team will pull the goalie in a close game situation to get an extra skater in hopes of scoring a goal out of Desperation to force overtime or set up for another goal to get win(Time-Permitted)
Matt played EA NHL 22 and the Knicks...I mean... the Maple Leafs lost, so I'm happy.
BRO, LEARN WHAT A HAT TRICK IS, lol.
Been love watching your journey into the greatest sport
it’s so hard to score in game with psi idk why.he pops off in the sim engine tho

You should do the tutorial!
You have to shoot sooner instead of trying to get so close to the net every time. Besides that, I can tell you’re definitely improving.
Didn't watch the whole video so my bad if you talked about this and already know, but when your team has less men on ice than the other due to penalty, there's no icing for your team. So once you get the puck you can just shoot it away from your defensive zone.
Try and shoot from farther away and sim with right joy stick
Not sim I mean aim*
teams will pull the goalie so they can have 6 on 5. Its basically a last ditch effort from the losing team.
slap shots for D men far range
Btw it’s kinda odd but if you didn’t know you aim your shot with the L stick and when your aiming and your at a green spot that’s when you wanna take the shot
You can turn penalties off as you learn!
not bad
Not every shot needs to come from right in front of the net my man. Anywhere past the blue line will create opportunities. Try some one-timers.
You take the face off using the right sticm
@JustMatt i wanna see u learn how to play fifa if u don't know how to already
you gotta learn how to onetimer and pass more to open players.
This comment section is funny.. don't worry your doing fine.. I use to be top 10 in the world.. for versus mode.. your fine.. and yes I'd destroy anyone in this comment section lol
I noticed that you didn't win anything face offs. If you don't know how, u pull back on the right stick as the referee drops the puck
Play on pro or higher mode that only way to get better rookie mode teach nothing😊
When hot wings video?
faceoffs in skill stick is diffrent. just push your right stick to the right and hold it there, and when the ref drops the puck, slide your left stick up
You forgot to double press the triangle button on the face offs
Early
