I CAN'T BELIEVE YOU MAKE, IN MY EYES, WHAT HAS THE PROFESSIONAL PIECE LOOK AND I AM SURE MANY PEOPLE WOULD PAY $$$ FOR! YOU MAKE IT SEEM SO EFFORTLESS AND I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!! I WILL NEVER MISS ANY OF YOUR TUTORIALS AND VIDS!! A HUGE THANK YOU FROM A NEW FAN!!
just made this with some added feathers and gems onto it. thank you for such an inspiring video. really glad my friend made that cast of my face last year..finally got to put it to good use!
Hi Klaire...you have the patience of Job. I love the mask. I can only imagine how it would look with colors in it. I would love to have a purple one. Thanks for sharing. Mil.
as others have suggested there are many ways to doing it but the best way is to start off with coating the mold with Vaseline or covering with plastic wrap. if you are past this point and want to try and save your work then id recommend using a heat gun or blowdryer to evenly heat the piece. Since the materials will expand and contract at different temperatures it should make it pliable enough to work it off without it falling apart.
If the mask is very thin it WILL melt the mask. If it's quite a think mask it shouldn't. I will try and do a video soon on how to make a seriously easy face cast without having to actually cast your face, obviously it won't be a perfect fit for your face but it will work :)
HOLY COW, Klaire! You really out done yourself this time. I cant wait to see the makeup for this mask and the beautiful photographs at the end as always ♡
If I were to follow your guide to make a basic masquerade mask only cover more of my face and not leave openings for the eyes, could I use that? I'm just amazed that the glue goes on and comes right off of the paper like that...?
This is wonderful, I never thought of using a hotglue gun to make a mask. I have a few questions though: I'm making a Harley Quinn inspired mask (traditional jumpsuit design) that's more of a solid mask, would it still be OK to use a hot glue gun or would it look kinda blobby? Would I be able to paint it or should I used pigmented glue? And what is your opinion on using spirit gum to keep the mask attached? Because I find the string gets in the way of my hairstyle. Anyway, thanks for making your tutorials, they're wonderful.
I email them directly (to leave a comment on my blog you have to put your email) that way it makes it a lot faster and easier for me to pick the winer and send the prize :)
For anyone that's having trouble getting your mask off of the base,I would highly recommend putting a thin layer of something like olive oil or Vaseline on the base mask. When you're done it takes little effort to get it off! I'm having a problem with the ends being too stringy. What would you recommend for that?
Oh gosh I would have never thought of this! Thanks for the tutorial by the way!! I was invited to a cosplay masquerade in June and since I'm going as a formal Jack Frost, this would be perfect!
I love the effect the clear glue has. If I can get my hands on a glue gun, I'd definitely give it a shot. Do you think different coloured glitters could work nicely on it? I'm thinking of trying to get the colour of my eyes to pop.
You should create a makeup tutorial to go along with this. This would have been perfect for me a few weeks ago when I went to a winter masquerade ball.
U can use Vaseline under if u want but the mod podge doesn't stick to wax paper. Also the mod podge makes a soft comfortable mask that bends to shape of your face ( so does Elmer's glue, school glue @ $1 store both are non toxic) & if u like after you can put the mask on, make small dots with black liner as to where to stick the glue gun icicles. Sounds like a lot but it was really easy! I love Klaire's mask!! I just didn't have my glue gun...or a cast of my face :) TY for inspiring me Klaire!!
This is a great way to make masks. I'm working on my second. I've used them in dance performances. Those that don't have a cast of your face there is a way. I found the glue wouldn't come off the plastic mask. What I did was draw the eye shape I wanted on parchment paper, and then mark the basic shape I wanted on parchment paper. The parchment paper allowed the mask to be pulled off very easily. The mask might be flat, but when you wear it your body temperature helps it to mould to your face.
My god I love playing with hot glue me and my dad made some dragon eggs from the plastic Easter eggs that you buy and they have some candy in it and they are the big ones and we don't take the glue off but we leave it there and paint over it take some glittery stuff and outline the hot glue "streaks" I've never thought of making a mask but that's got to be realllllllly comfortable and I'm not sure where I could get one of those faces that you are using but I realllly want to get one and do that
This is amazing!! My 12 yr old niece is coming to visit this summer and I have been looking for inexpensive but kinda of time consuming things for her to do while I work . Good thing is I work from home so I will still be with her . But I need her to do stuff since not everyday can be 6flags and Seaworld ...I subscribed!!
Carpet safety and protection 101. I like you. Xxxx how to be crafty and not end up losing every returnable deposit or getting thrown out of every residence. You can come to play again xxxx Is there anything you can use as a buffer that the glue gun glue fails to stick to? I know it's good for fabric-paper- wood, but is there anything that would ease the peel off if you aren't using a clay face cast??
Hello. I am using a full face plastic mask. Should I put a coating of something on it first? I was practicing on one eye and it was very difficult to take off. Thank you for your time.
I LOVE masquerade masks, so I LOVE this idea! Only trouble is, like you said, I don't have a cast of my face aha!, so please do tell us how to make one! One more thing...Would you need to spray the face cast/mask or prepare it in anyway, so that the glue wouldn't stick? x
Hey, I just saw this, I put saran wrap on the mannequin first then glued it, after it was cool I just ripped the saran wrap off the mask. It worked way better. and the glue didn't melt the wrap.
If you use a face cast could you glue it to your face with liquid latex or do you think it would come loose? Also, I've got some hot glue gun sticks with glitter in them would that be too over the top? Thanks. :)
I did the dragon egg, and now I'm TOTALLY going to do this one too. I just ordered more glue for my gun- and found hot glue that has sparkles *in it*!!!! How cool is that? I'm going to give that a shot, post as a video reply when I'm done.
hi klaire....i bought a mascarade mask and the glue would not come off ...i was so disappointed...any suggestions as i so want to make these.....oh....thanks for videos...love them
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!! This is definitely one of your best ideas, you have a brilliant mind!!! I really hope to have this kind of great ideas when I graduate from graphic design
I also couldn't get the glue off the dollarstore mask- so I tried vaseline (too messy), wax paper(too difficult to place on mask)so..... I put CLEAR DUCT TAPE on the mask covering the whole area then preceded to put on the hot glue. The glue peels off after so EASILY!!!! My mask turned out great! The only thing I would do differently would be have smaller eye holes (more like on the video)-I drew mine out a little large. Thanks for the great craft for my masquerade party!!!
I think this would be really cool if you used different colors- I've noticed that there are different color glue sticks for hot glue guns and I think that would look cool with blue and purple and shades of white and the clear.

MAKE, IN MY EYES, WHAT HAS THE PROFESSIONAL PIECE LOOK AND I AM SURE MANY PEOPLE WOULD PAY $$$ FOR!
YOU MAKE IT SEEM SO EFFORTLESS AND I AM IN LOVE WITH IT!! I WILL NEVER MISS ANY OF YOUR TUTORIALS AND VIDS!!
A HUGE THANK YOU FROM A NEW FAN!!
u could use spirit gum to stick it on ur face if u want it to be stringless
That would be awesome
Or Body Glue
With False lashes glue!!!
You could add wires on the edge to mount it on hour ears too
Please make more mask DIYs!! These are the best I have seen on the internet!
I so want to do that, except i would add a really light icy blue for that more frozen effect
To avoid getting glue on the carpet, don't do these in the floor.
+Terrill White Well she uses scrap carpet to protect her own but all people should take precautions to protect their work surfaces. :)
Such a simple technique with so many creative uses, thanks for sharing!
THIS WAS BEFORE FROZEN :D
Lol xD
just made this with some added feathers and gems onto it. thank you for such an inspiring video. really glad my friend made that cast of my face last year..finally got to put it to good use!

You're a multi-talented artist!
I love your dramatic make-up, but these masks... Girl, you're amazing!

It's linked in the blog post (link in the description box :)

Oh gosh I would have never thought of this! Thanks for the tutorial by the way!! I was invited to a cosplay masquerade in June and since I'm going as a formal Jack Frost, this would be perfect!

This is PERFECT! Please please PLEASE do a makeup that goes with it. This is fantastic, I always dreamt of something like this, thank you!
I just made this mask today(it was a lazy rainy day) it turned out fantastic!!! thank you so much for all your amazing videos!

I did this for my prom because the theme was Masquerade. It fit my long ombre dark blue to white dress
Yes, it's very best in the winter!
A spray paint should work (you might have to varnish it after though for it to stick :)
Brilliant! But how much time to get it dry...... Because I want to do in the school... There is a competition so I choose this and I hope I win.....
awesome tutorial :) ! do you think you can also do it without the head you glued on? so for example draw the mask on a flat surface?
My god I love playing with hot glue me and my dad made some dragon eggs from the plastic Easter eggs that you buy and they have some candy in it and they are the big ones and we don't take the glue off but we leave it there and paint over it take some glittery stuff and outline the hot glue "streaks" I've never thought of making a mask but that's got to be realllllllly comfortable and I'm not sure where I could get one of those faces that you are using but I realllly want to get one and do that
Oh my goodness you are amazingly talented! This is beautiful!
i also found out that with the superglue, it fogs the edges of the rhinestones and it does NOT look pretty!
Awesome tutorial! this is a lifesaver!
if you get another one, and wrap it parchment paper, and them glue, i think it may work out. i've haven't done it, but it may be worth a shot

This is such a beautiful idea, Klaire. It's so detailed. Very creative, as always! x

Can you please do a makeup look to go with/inspired by this mask? That would be soooo cool!!!!
This mask did it for me, I probably subbed faster than anybody EVA! You are awesome gurl!
I LOVE masquerade masks, so I LOVE this idea! Only trouble is, like you said, I don't have a cast of my face aha!, so please do tell us how to make one! One more thing...Would you need to spray the face cast/mask or prepare it in anyway, so that the glue wouldn't stick? x

Very nice work. That turned out really nice.
omg. you're so pretty. i love your eyes.
Wow, what a stunningly beautiful video beginning - how did you make those gorgeous inky animated patterns?
Absolutely amazing, and this could be used to create all sorts of shapes!
What a creative idea! Wonderful work!
you are so creative and lovely. I would never have come up with using a gluegun alone to make a mask
hi klaire....i bought a mascarade mask and the glue would not come off ...i was so disappointed...any suggestions as i so want to make these.....oh....thanks for videos...love them
Love the mask, but do you have a photo to see how it looks when you wear it? :)
Could you make a corresponding makeup tutorial for this mask? Thanks!!!! I love your videos!!!!
This is absolutely incredible. So crafty!
Absolutely beautiful!!!!!! This is definitely one of your best ideas, you have a brilliant mind!!! I really hope to have this kind of great ideas when I graduate from graphic design
love this klaire, could you maybe do a makeup and hair look to go with this?
YOU ARE A GENIUS! :> this will be so helpful for my graduation night as the theme is masquerade :D
You could also easily turn it into a flame mask, simply by painting it red, orange and yellow
This is just too beautiful and such a creative DIY! Love your videos!! xx
You are so freaking amazing, I could do this but I don't really have patience for that, I'm a patient person but not when I'm crafting something
That sucks a cool and rather cheap way to make a mask! I love it
Yes. I love making these and I have so many more ideas I wan't to create! :D
You're very talented Klaire never stop !!
had to leave the room, so missed the title n singer but watched again. thank you. love your work.

I think this would be really cool if you used different colors- I've noticed that there are different color glue sticks for hot glue guns and I think that would look cool with blue and purple and shades of white and the clear.
That is AWESOME! Omg it's so cool looking! You did a great job!
do u have any suggestions on what to apply before hot glue to make it easier to peel off
the opening was gorgeous
I think if it was a thicker quality one it might only slightly warp, but the thinner ones would surely melt.
Love this, and the fact that it is very simple. And just a suggestion, but maybe you could do an artist creative makeup creation on a male model?
Hi klaire I love this mask! I don't have a glue gun, will it be ok if i use normal liquid glue? Thanks!
You could put some wax paper down on your surface ahead of time too. That stuff is MAGIC.
