Burners lasted about 5-6 months then they become lawn ornaments to be stripped of their components Suntour or abbreviated SR, Skyway, Tange and Weinmann parts would end up for sale to your mates for a weeks pocket money or cassette computer game swaps. The times you would see Yellow Skyway Tuff Wheels on BMX builds with Black rim tide marks because they never changed the Brake blocks and ignored the sticker that was found on the inside of the rim telling you it would void your warranty which is strange because modern Skyway Tuff Wheels fail to fashion these Decals.Carcass frame examples were all other the place in the in the early 1980`s and it brings back memories viewing this advert..Another thing i remember was if you bought a Sharp Bottom bracket boot it was always too loose for the frame housing and cutting up old inner tubes to place over the bottom headset cup was another addition.Thank you for the memories of part the best decade ever for teenagers ever the 1980`s.....
I had a mark one raliegh burner red and yellow. It's weight was laughable compared with th skyway ta's and dp firebird fresstylers everyone was riding locally but i was the one who laughed last and the loudess when they were walking home to tell dad they brpke their bikes. I could not only keep up in a race but could often compete in the freestyle arena back in the eighties. Miami sqeeker, done. Rockwalk, done. Cherry picker done. Vanderroll, done. Crossover, done. Get air, done. One footed air, done. And countless other tricks. It wasn't a case of the equipment but the skill you had to use what you had. I'm now 49 yrs old and ride a 97 gt performer modinised with a mid spec sealed bottom bracket and mx1000 repop brakes. And enjoying reliving my younger days. In all those years all that really matters is you get out and ride. And you still ride to push your skill set. No matter what you ride. I see people spending 1000's on the bike of their dreams and i see people riding low budget bike. At the end of the day each are getting as much fun. The moral of this story is just to get out and ride no matter the budget and enjoy the freedom bmx has afforded all of us.
Hey. My name is Sean. I am the kid in the video # 24 if any one else that was in this video is around leave a message here.. damn that was a long time ago. Any one with videos from the valley teen center or Devonshire downs track please post them.
I had the mk2 and they came with a years warranty ! my standard red burner i kept snapping the frames in half ! My dad kept returning them until the Raleigh dealer gave me an Aero pro on the condition my dad never returned 😂 i snapped that too 😩
my first choice would have been Redline, but I would have taken a Raleigh over the Huffys my parents got me :( ...i know, i know..1st world 70's problems
Thadeus Coffin Raleigh Burner was rhe bear selling BMX in the UK in the 1980s. More of a cultural phenomenon than a race one. You could describe them as the Equivelant of a Huffy I suppose. Still a lot of restored ones about in the UK old school BMX scene
ChaosFlower Yeah I hear ya. The aero pro burner was similar to a kuwi Laserlite same Tange aero frame but with ARX forks instead of TRX. Also had a Sugino OPC instead of Sugino 400 and Suntour beartraps, nice looking bike though.
Nice. Video. Yhankyou.
