    Well done. My VR Headset is still in the box (HP Reverb G2) and I can’t wait to get into MSFS with it. Since its a Xmas present I have a few weeks to take in all the how-tos before taking the plunge. Needless to say... This 70 year old will be a kid again on Christmas day. 😊

      @@artie782 Not sure exactly what you are asking, but you should be able to configure all options in 2D and then just switch to VR when you are in the cockpit.
      You can also go back out to any of the options and set them when you are in VR just as you would when flying in 2D.

      @@Sidekick65 I will try to clarify my question a little better. It was late, so I must of had brain fog. So what I want VR to do is that.When I am flying. I can see the real buildings like New York City and it looks real . I don’t want the scenery to look like an arcade game. I believe there is 2 modes to switch between real and fake scenery. I

      Well, I'm not sure about that, but you can access all of the settings in VR so if you determine what setting you are looking for, you'll be able to access it in VR.

    My family would laugh at me because I was leaning my head to look out the window just like you do on a real flight. Once I worked out how to record a flight, I flew over our place, recorded the flight and then put the headset on them one by one. They all did exactly the same thing, leaned their heads to look out the window without moving their bodies, just like people do in actual planes. It does look a bit funny, but its a testament to the sense of reality you get in this simulator.
    MSFS is impressive in 2D, however, in VR, it's truly next level.

    Excellent video, and so very well put!
    Many times I tried to explain the VR experience to friends and acquaintances - but I found it quite difficult to convey that feeling of actually being inside the cockpit to people who never tried VR (and have never flown a plane, for that matter). In the future, I’ll save my breath and just give them a link to this clip!

VR it’s a drug for me. Thank you Asobo and DCS to makes this dreams true for us…ok, I have waited 40 years..but hell…that was ok for this experience. Well said and articulated. I have felt exactly the same. It’s such a gift to be a recreational pilot at a time that tech is able to do this. It truly tricks your mind.
    I too use the q2 on an i7 rtx3060ti rig and I am sure this title, 5 years from now on then current hardware will be able to be set at ultimate max all with zero screen door. Paired with the ever decreasing costs of 3 axis home motion sims… it will make gen aviation way too cost prohibitive to pay just for the thill of flying. It will be that indiscernible. I bought a VR headset and tinkered with it a bit via Beat Saber, Pistol Whip etc but never really got in to it. The headset would sit for weeks if not months at a time without being touched. It wasn't until I tried MSFS 2020 in VR that I fell in love with it. It's just pretty amazing and fantastic. Being able to free look around and get part of the experience of being in the cockpit is great. Our new puppy found my Rift S cord and made short work of it so I upgraded to a Quest 2 on my i9 9900K rig and it's buttery smooth.

    Just the video I was looking for thank you! My Quest 2 arrives today. I've had MSFS since release and have been torn on making the VR investment or not, then I bought the GEE BEE with its bubble cockpit, acrobatic smoke and nitrous boost a couple of weeks ago and my VR fate was sealed. VR was an eventuality but stunting around bridges and other structures requires the ability to look up and around to monitor clearance. Just the ability to free look is great but the ability to directly interact with controls in VR seems like the icing on the cake.

    VR in msfs is getting much better. It's an amazing experience and I've played way more MSFS on my quest 2 in the last 2 weeks than I have since I bought the game. However... It's not finished yet.
    It's still broken.
    Mind you, I'm running a low end system compared to some monster rigs. But I still find it very satisfying.
    This is so much better than it was in FSX, and Flyinside (which was my first VR flight experience).
    But the touch controllers aren't optimized yet. Turning dials is very difficult... Using the menu options is impossible at the moment in VR. And why on earth can you not advance both right and left engine throttles at the same time??? Sheesh!
    But It's an amazing experience (as broken as it is).

I ran the Quest 2 with a Ryzen 3600 and a RTX 2060 - and I would expect your system to outperform that one. I currently run a Ryzen 5800 and an AMD 6800 - which is probably a little higher end than the system you have specified - even with that system I end up reducing the resolution parameters a little bit - but it does not interfere with my enjoyment of the sim.

    What also simmers don't take in consideration when it comes to FPS is that different scenarios will depend, sample if your flying in NYC VS Arizona desert you'll see the FPS difference more buildings that MSFS has to render the more you lose in FPS so when flying think about how and where you're going to fly and use your judgment how your GPU is going to act and function that's best way to describe how your going to push your PC because one setting doesn't mean it's going to work smoothly in other areas

    Have you tried disabling asynchronous space warp in the Oculus debug tool settings? this will prevent smearing I do this and then I will lock the frame rate to whatever the lowest fps dip is in order to keep fps as consistent as possible to prevent it from jumping up and down wildly jerking around. Also I find one of the biggest deciding factors in determining what your FPS will be is where you set your resolution slider a click or two up or down can have a 5 to 10 FPS difference.

      Well... actually I didn't capture the VR screen. I flew in VR and recorded the "track" and then played it back in 2D for recording. This is functionality that is native to DCS (although it doesn't work very well - at least with some aircraft). It is available through third party apps for MSFS - I use one called FlightRecorder.

    Great video presentation! I have a question about recoding the screen in VR if you don't mind. I'm just learning about it and am currently using Nvidia Shadow play. I can record the stereo VR images without problem, but getting a full screen desktop recording is not so easy. You seem to switch between the two easily. May I ask you to explain a little about how you do that and what software you use to record your VR flights ? I'm using a Reverb G2 so not sure if that makes a difference to the answer. Thank you.

    • @Sidekick65
      @Sidekick65  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, I'm actually kind of cheating. I was actually using a pre-recorded flight, doing a screen capture (with the graphic card's native capture utility) and switching back and forth between VR mode and 2D mode so that I could show how easily MSFS switches between the modes.
      Whenever I fly a flight in VR that I want record for a video I record the flight (using an addon called FlightRecorder that I found). Then I playback the flight in 2D and record the screen.
      I think that my Quest 2 headset does have a utility that will let me capture video directly from the headset, I think it basically uses the signal from one eye to generate a 2D image. Not sure if the reverb has a similar option.
      I hope that is some help to you.

    Will a motion simulator + Motion Compensation software eliminate the VR sickness?

    • @Sidekick65
      @Sidekick65  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      maybe some of it. It might help with the basic motion sickness effect where your ears and eyes are telling you brain different things. But, most of my problem in flight sims seems to come from inconsistent refresh rates rather than from the motion itself. When the the VR stutters, I think it makes me feel like I am starting and stopping - and I think that's what triggers the motion sickness for me. This is probably worse the faster I feel I am moving - which is why the effect may be worse in DCS, to be fair.

      @@Sidekick65 I'm debating on whether to keep the $79 Quest Link cable or to buy an aftermarket one. After trying like 4 different cables, I finally found one in Amazon for a fraction of the cost of the Oculus one but it's only 10 feet. I'm going to return it because the setup I have really needs the 16 feet of the Oculus one. If I may ask, which cable are you using for yours?

      @@ADPeguero Not sure of the make. I bought it on Amazon. It's a 10 footer though. I never bought the Quest cable - just thought it was too expensive.

      Have to be careful. There are a bunch that say they will work and have all the specifications needed but don’t work once hooked up. Scam. So beware. And 10ft? Not sure if that’s enough. Another thing is that the link cords are sometimes VERY rigid and don’t bend like a normal cord/plug and that can put stress on the actual metal piece that goes in. And I’m always afraid that it’s gonna snap while my kid is playing. When I’m constantly telling him to watch out don’t put too much pressure on it. He says I’m crazy. Until it happens of course.

    I went thru all the trouble of buying a yoke setup, buying a vr headset... all for msfs.. Just to get an error msg that pretty much told me my computer is a piece of shit that can't run vr... smh

      If it was a message that said your PC is "not configured for mixed reality" or something like that, the problem may not be your PC. If you have a Quest headset there is a setting you have to change which fixes the problem. Drop by my Discord and I'll see if I can help.
