I had the privilege of seeing Ms Emerald at her very first concert in the US in LA a number of years ago. Though I really disliked the venue and misunderstood that it was standing only (I have a disability making it difficult to stand long periods) and that the show started MUCH later than stated, I was also lucky to be about 5 people deep from the stage, right in the middle, I adored seeing her (and my 3 day get-away to LA from Phoenix was so relaxing!) and felt SO LUCKY to be graced by her presence. Unfortunately, I had to bail on the show 2 songs from the end, I simply couldn't stand any longer.
I've been anxiously awaiting her LONG overdue return to the States, especially now that she has 2 1/2 albums out (Emerald Island is only 6 songs, some quite short). I think she's not more popular here because it's simply too difficult to explain her type of music - "well, um, it's like Big Band and Swing and Standards but with a modern flair, scattered with some pop with a tiny hint of hip-hop...", not to mention what type radio station would play her music. The closest I've heard her played is in a gay bar, performed by a Drag Queen! So yes, she's incredibly fantastic - but her style (which I would never want to see her change) is what I think also holds her back. "Unique" can be a double-edged sword :-(
A timeless song. I discovered it only now. I was shopping for Christmas decorations in OBI and when I heard the song, my whole world changed. I stood by the speakers and enjoyed the beauty. The peak of singing and performance quality. Great band as always. I appreciate the melodiousness of the song. I am in love. You deserve much more attention. I haven't heard such quality people in a long time. You have changed my life. Well thank you. I was looking for a reason to own a record player and your very being convinced me that I had to have a vinyl from you. You are exactly the person to play me from a quality record player.
