I finally found someone who knits like me. I tried different methods before, I did several tests to see if I noticed any difference with my knitting style; but I didn't notice any so I decided to continue with “my style” which was super comfortable and without much stress on my fingers. Excellent tutorial! God bless you!

Thats how i knit and purl now. Its much quicker but my knitting is a little looser. I also use a tension ring i designed to keep the yarn in the right place on my index finger

I’ve been knitting like this, but have not mastered the purl. I’ll practice it this winter. TFS❤

That’s exactly how I learned how to knit from my mother. I prefer to use the straight needles instead of the circular ones.

I'm an English knitter mostly, but when I do colourwork or two-stranded knitting, I knit continental with the dark colour just like you do, and English with the light colour. I can't quite get the hang of purling continental though - most tutorials, folks don't hold the yarn the way you do. I'm going to try your method! With colourwork, it's mostly in the round for hats, mitts etc so not a lot of purling required, but I've always wanted to get better at continental 😊. Thanks for this!

Same as me , but the needle digging into my finger does make my finger sore after a while …

I knit the same way, with the index finger very close to the needle and just pick the yarn off my finger. My index finger doesn't move at all. The purl is different than what I do, and looks like it might be a bit faster. Have to try it out!

I knit eastern continental way, the difference is in the purls, you wrap it the other way round on the needle, much much easier !! And much faster too!
But I also hold the needles and my yarn this way, my left index is even ON the needle!

I've seen a couple of folks stitch like you do. They called it Norwegian knitting.

This isn't Norwegian purling it starts with yarn at the back and there is an extra twist. This is continental purling I can't do it I end up doing Eastern purling which is easier but you end up with the stitches back to front and you need to knit into the back. Fine if it's just stocking stitch like here not so handy in something more complicated

That is how I do it also. I do find I raise my finger a bit too much.

This isNorwegian knitting…and then when you purl, you want to learn Norwegian otherwise your stitches will be twisted and the resulting fabric is twisted, just an fyi

I don't believe this is Norwegian purling; it is continental. In Norwegian purl the working yarn is held behind the left hand needle while in Continental it is held in front of the left hand needle.

This is indeed continental knitting, but this is not a unique style - it is Norwegian style. 😊
This is how I knit too - my index gets cramped if raised too far from the needle. 😂 I find this style to be very ergonomic for my wrists and fingers. Like you, my purls are not twisted. This is a good tutorial btw. ☺️

@@theresafedoriw5003 but i think she is knitting, not purling here.

This is also an finnish style. Maybe in the whole Skandinavia knitters do this way.

Interesting! I will have to look into Norwegian knitting. My purls aren't twisted though. I have done a lot of knitting. :)
