This helps to visualise the genius that Bach was. The way the bass and melody compliment each other is mind blowing even after playing this piece hundreds of times!!
Fabulous, artistic playing! I love teaching this piece (on piano) and can't wait to show your video to a student about to begin studying this work. Bravo!
Awesome !!! never seen that ... the second it started playing I noticed a completely different feel for a music that usually we all listen in classical guitar or lute. A-MA-ZING... gave different voicing ! The interpretaion is genial, soft than strong, made me want to dance in those old Bach days, all costume on, ufff u la la
Holy. You were the guys at the performance in the church with all the other students like a couple of months ago. I was sitting next to the woman. I messed up my performance even though I'd practiced enough but she was very kind and helped me.
Lovely to hear this, this morning. We are off to the Melbourne Guitar Festival today. Looking forward to hearing Dan play Cliffside, by Robert Davidson, which we commissioned for his 40th birthday. Finally getting to hear it, three years later.
Hi David, say hi to everyone in Melbourne. Curious about the new Rob Davidson piece! And crikey, is Dan 40?... that makes even ME feel old… good luck with that! ;-) :-)
Also this gave the ´bass´ part much more feel to it, than regular lute or one guitar... bass makes this shine even more ... amazing amazing.... ufff amazing
@zooduo incredible! It gets such great response! what is the scale length like? I have an acoustic bass guitar but it's a little small, something like 32"
Oh, this is wonderful! I have been playing this and other Bach pieces for my whole life and this is inspiring! I play a K. Yairi acoustic bass guitar, which I love! But this contra bass is very nice as well. Maybe we'll play together some day!! Great music.
ı've never been seen an acoustic bass guitar like this... it's avesome :)) how can i buy a guitar like this?? there's wonderfull and powerfull sound...
What about this Caldersmith octave guitar? Is it really a whole octave above a guitar? If so, how is this possible? What's it scale? What kind of strings are used? And more importantly, where can I find one?
The small one is called alto guitar, it's about five notes higher than a normal guitar. The big one I'm not sure if it's a bass or a lower guitar because of its size
Can any musicologist tell me exactly what it is that Jethro Tull is doing by playing all the same notes yet is sounds so different. Is it just emphasis. Everyone else plays it up front, but Iain Anderson seems to play it laid back. th-cam.com/video/pqxwXla3-Bw/w-d-xo.html
I am not a musicologist but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. IMHO this is exactly the piece that you refer to. I began studying classical guitar in 1977. Jethro Tull led me there. I was so enamored with their music that I began studying ( right out of the Army, at 20 years old) . This was the piece that led me to study. I play it daily now ( Bach’s version). If you can read music and listen to the bass ( classical guitar) this is almost an exact replication. The melody almost exact. However I believe the key is changed to Am and of course jazzed up a bit. Listen to Segovia’s version and then Tull. Tull played that Elizabethan Rock. It led me to Bach. After learning to play classical guitar it was difficult to return to Rock only. Bach is so much bigger. Hope this helps. But in my opinion it is basically the same piece much the same as “Lover’s Concerto “ in the 60’s was stolen from the Anna Magdalena Notebook. Thank You Ian for leading me to Bach:)
He's swinging the notes instead of playing them as straight. So what is written as two equal notes is played as a triplet with one note doubled in length. It's not precisely that, but that's a good place to start and then you can play around with it a little. The important part is that what are written as equal notes are instead played long short long short long short.
This helps to visualise the genius that Bach was. The way the bass and melody compliment each other is mind blowing even after playing this piece hundreds of times!!
Can you see he's the man
Let me hear you aplaudde
He is more than a man
He's a shiny golden god
Can't you see he's the man, let me hear you applaud
he is more than a man he's a shiny golden god.!!!
What? If that’s a poem it’s not a very good one. Sorry.
@@StopFear It is a good one. I even dare to state it's classic(o).

Jonah An acoustic bass, classically.
www.grahamcaldersmith.com.au/
It's a guitar. A bass guitar.
Nice
I enjoyed that. I thought you were about to high-five at the end.
Fun!
Mooi spel!
What guitar is she playing?
It's an octave guitar, sometimes called a soprano guitar. Both instruments were built by the (late) Australian luthier Graham Caldersmith.
gorgeus
wow.
do you manage to have your nails? :) (the bassman)
Baroque Imperial!
