Never tried Rye ever? Go for Old Forester Rye 100 for starters! If ya like Rye but never had RBR, ya in for a great treat! Get both Rye and Bourbon and ya set! I have both NRR SiB and B SiB both good as well
Rittenhouse rye is a great entry level rye. Basic but decent. Michters single barrel rye is good stuff. Still entry level pleasing, oily and medium full. I think i need to checkout both of these.
We've gotten a bit ahead on filming and editing over here. This won't be the first time you see that rare occurrence in the coming weeks. ;) Cheers Eric!
I didn't hear Pikesville mentioned! That would be a great blind flight...Rare Breed Rye, New Riff Rye, Bulliet Rye and Pikesville. Erin was 'blind' sided in this one. Cheers, great video!
Blindsided for sure! The low proof of Bulleit would stick out for sure, but for the higher proof pours, we entered those matchups into our blind sample pool in a "round robin" style format where they all face off against each other eventually. Doing a specific flight that includes all at once it a great idea though. Sounds like we've got a plan for an upcoming livestream as soon as we replace some empty bottles (for some reason these don't tend to last too long around here). Cheers Mike!
While I’ve never had either one of those, I understand why it happened. I love Russell’s Reserve 6 Year Rye, but it tastes very different from my more traditional favorite ryes, Old Forester and Bulleit.
Josh...Tammy Wynette and Ricky Bobby and Stage 5 Clinger and (I'll give you credit for) Cyndi Lauper in one video? Well played! Crazy thing going on right now in OKC...Rare Breed Bourbon doesn't exist, and Rare Breed Rye is everywhere...wouldn't have believed that two months ago....and worried...
Great catch on all the references. ;) Fret not, David. Turkey has been dealing with a glass shortage by all accounts. We're dealing with it in our market too. Rare Breed bourbon and rye are coming in alternative waves in our market where one will be in stock for a month or two, then it'll alternate to the other being in stock for a month or two, and then back again. We've not seen both in stock in any store since the middle of last year. Will be nice when we can get past these supply issues.
I always like your blinds. I tried the 4 roses single to small batch ( Single won that night) and will revisit that one since they were both fresh open bottles. I do have open of new riff and rare breed so my thursday night is planned. Keep up the good work
Awesome review...a couple of ryes I haven't had. I figured the Rare Breed rye would be a top choice. I'd like to try the New Riff, but it just isn't around here much, where as Rare Breed Rye is everywhere.
If you like ryes, you gotta grab a bottle of Rare Breed Rye. Not sure if we have it in our blind pool against the bourbon yet but that needs to happen. Both are SO GOOD!
Big demand or low supply? Wild Turkey is on record as having major issues with the glass shortage so stock in our market seems to come in waves--it'll be all over shelves for a month or two and then it'll dry up for a month or two. And right now they seem to be rotating stock between the bourbon and the rye (one will be in the stock and the other won't, then it'll flip flop). Keep your eyes peeled.
I came here for the review, I stuck around for the Talladega Nights and Wedding Crashers references! Awesome video as always you two. I've gotta pour these two up now and see if I get Peanut Butter and Jelly! Watching Josh stare at Erin while shes starring at the answers waiting in suspense is my favorite part. You can see in his eyes hes like "tell meeee!!" Awesome video you two as always. Cheers.
1. ive definitely had PB&J with cheetos many times in my life lol. But i dont know why but i felt like rare breed rye was kind of a disappoint to me. ive had a couple of bottles and i love rye but do not enjoy it the same way as the bourbon. Also im sure yall have a ton of matchups in the wait but have yall tried 1792 FP vs Rare breed? 1792 FP ,as much as i hate to say it, is slowly becoming my favorite available Barrel proof. The dark fruit notes are fantastic
Josh here. It's taken me the better part of a few years to warm up to rye like this and only recently do I feel I've really made a breakthrough to enjoying it enough to want to reach for it over bourbon from time to time. And we're big 1792FP fans but it's a very limited release item in our market along with the 1792 BiB offering from Barton. I think our market is down to once annually to get each product, which is a real bummer, because we love them both. We agree that we'd take Full Proof over almost every other barrel proof product on the market--especially a good store pick.
I think its the minty flavor on the RB Rye that makes me not as big of a fan of it. But i agree that both the 1792 products are fantastic. I dont know what the releases are for them here but i see the FP way more than the BiB. Great video as always yall. Cheers!
Could it be that the New Riff was a different barrel than what you had? Either that or Erin's taste is maturing/evolving - I find that happens when you go back to something you know you love but suddenly it becomes, just ok.
Same single barrel but more than likely it was just the way that bottle hit here on a different day in the blind format. One of the most interesting things about entering the same bottle into multiple blind head-to-heads for us is seeing how it strikes us on different days. We've had some bottles pop up three times and it's bowled us over in one head-to-head, really underwhelmed us in another matchup, and came across pretty middle of the road in another matchup.
Well, if the New Riff is Barrel Proof, couldn't that mean it's from a single barrel and you're encountering single barrel variability? BTW, while I was impressed by the quotes from both Talladega Nights AND Wedding Crashers, I was more impressed when you said Erin needed therapy and didn't even wince when she kicked you under the table with all her might.
Interestingly enough, this is the same bottle of New Riff that scored quite high. Just goes to show how your palate can differ on different days. Getting the same bottle into multiple matchups is one of our favorite things for that very reason. Cheers Brian and glad you enjoyed the quotes and banter!
New Riff ❤❤
I just saw the Rare Breed Rye yesterday. Never tried rye. Guess I’m heading to the liquor store in the morning. Great review y’all

It's a different world to be sure, but a fun one. Cheers David!
I've only had a handful of ryes, but Rare Breed Rye is exactly what you say it is: a flavor punch! Love that bottle! Cheers y'all!
Cheers ISDP!
Divine nose gets 1 thumbs up... you two crack me up!
Haha, we both got a kick out of that one ourselves. Cheers Jim!
RB rye is my favorite new squeeze. I can pick it up in my market for around $43
That's a fantastic price! We're a buy all day long!
@@stuffandwhiskey Costco Special!!!
I had this exact decision today lol..never tried either loving ryes lately ..i went with the rare breed
like em both.. and do a 50/50 mix of them and see what happens.
That's BRILLIANT! Can't believe we didn't think of that. Great call, Red!

You all are awesome! Love watching!
Thank YOU for watching Jaime! You guys are the best!
Have you tried New Riff balboa rye, I find it quite different but very good. Cheers 🍻
The balboa is very good!
When Erin pulls the "Josh Shock Face" first 😂
We've gotten a bit ahead on filming and editing over here. This won't be the first time you see that rare occurrence in the coming weeks. ;) Cheers Eric!
Great review, I love that rare breed rye
It's SO GOOD. In Turkey we trust!
I like the PB&J with Cheetos Erin
easy win for new riff

Those Turkey ryes definitely have something different going on in them. Cheers and thanks for watching Bob!

Awwww yeah Tim! Let us know how the New Riff vs Rare Breed goes. Cheers!

Can't find RBR in my market anymore... Sad

One of our better reveals for sure. Thanks for tuning in Chris!

Time after time = 1 like...
Erin is in trauma and will need help
It's funny because it's true. 😂
