      Layne was otherworldly, but without Jerry, he would have been lesser than he was. Jerry isn’t the same without Layne, but he’s still a masterful musician.

  • @AaronAttelOfficial

    So many commenting about Layne and this album. What Layne did for AiC and music in general will always be remembered. This new era of Alice shows how masterful they really are. They have managed to compose tunes that fit Duvall s voice and style (which is awesome) whilst still having that familiar Alice feel. This riff is simply pumping - great tune 🤘

      Still get goosebumps when this tune comes in. Cause just like what you said AIC is back! (I know this is 5 yrs old) and its eerie how much this sounds like something off Dirt all these years later.

    • @talastra

      That's because Cantrell was always more of a musical presence even vocally than seemed the case.

      Absolute beauty here in this tune. Layne never left the band. People say they hear him. I feel him.

      Yes. 100%. I had no idea he was involved so much until about 10 years ago when I really started going through their work. I figured he helped write, sure, but he is the heartbeat of AIC. One of my favorite bands I slept on...well other than their hits.

    • @XxSEETH3RxX

      Jerry was the heart and soul of AIC. Layne spent most of his time doing heroin.

    There are a lot of bands that wish they sounded this good after so many years, and most of them still have their original lead singer.
    For Alice in Chains to be this good still, and with a brand new singer who brings his own twist and style, is an outstanding achievement.
    This album and Rainier Fog put other rock bands' newer albums to shame.

    • @Davidjon1946
      @Davidjon1946 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @johnnydoe725

      @laufenwirzusammen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      @@gb6213 They absolutely didn't betray Layne or his legacy. It was never EVER about replacing Layne but in honoring him. If you actually payed attention to this new age AiC you'd see how much of its content is based around Layne either directly or indirectly. But looking at your comment I doubt you possess the capacity to look beyond your own personal emotions and view anything objectively. God..fans like you make me fucking sick.

    • @laufenwirzusammen
      @laufenwirzusammen 5 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      @@gb6213 Yikes, you clearly confirmed my point that you aren't very bright by either ignoring what i said or not understanding it. You do realize Alice in Chains is Jerry and Sean's? Layne and Mike were recruited, so at the end of the day AiC is whatever those 2 want it to be. Also, you need to move on. You're the epitome of the cancerous part of the fanbase that cannot get over them moving on from Layne and progressing. Its not your choice or opinion that matters or needs to be vocalized. Your entitled to it, yet you are so off-base it'd be nice to never here you people speak up.

    "Silence, so loud. Silence, can't tell my up from down". AIC has always understood that no one is there for you, no one is there to help you. So they do their best to express the feelings we all have, for us to understand that we may feel alone, but at least we suffer silently together.

Layne Staley (Maynard James Keenan's a close second) has always been my favourite musician and talking about him is a kind of therapy for me. You're right. Listening is more therapeutic, but talking about him is for us poor saps left here on this rock.

    I have a habit of imagining boss battles going with songs I like. Especially this one. Deathwing from the Dragon Soul raid dungeon in World of Warcraft. Especially when one reads into the story of how Deathwing, formerly Neltharion, came to be. The leader of the black dragonflight whose purpose is to safeguard the deep reaches of the earth. Problem is, old gods lurk there, and they drove him insane. "Hollow as a mountain, all tunneled and drilled below." and "Silence, so loud. Silence, I can't tell my up from down." Fits the way he went insane from listening to the old gods' whispers. I also imagine Metallica's "The Thing That Should Not Be" to be the boss theme for N'zoth in the Ny'alotha raid dungeon. N'zoth being a Lovecraftian monster, best fits with the song being that Metallica's song is about a Lovecraftian entity.

    Also Williams is an amazing “replacement”. No one could replace Staley, even at the end of his life he had the voice of nephilim Making sweet love to an angel, but William did nice
