      Thanks, Deborah, yes it was quite overwhelming to see, but seeing the orchids and rare plants growing in place is wonderful! The gorse will grow again no doubt, it's so hardy!

    That was such a lovely video, a real breath of fresh air. So nice that you met up with Kriksis too (I follow her as well). It must be so great to be as confident as you and be able to draw anywhere and not be bothered by people! On the few occasions I have tried I sit there furtively scribbling away hoping that no one sees! Also I find I waste time thinking about my style and how I’m going do something, what techniques etc. I can see your confidence on the page. Great news about the calendar I shall look forward to that. Xx

    • @MelanieChadwick
      @MelanieChadwick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Jennie. I totally understand that feeling, when I first began sketching I would get up really early to avoid people, and gradually over time built confidence and realised that most of time people aren't really concerned with me, only perhaps for a few seconds, if they notice I'm there!

    So lovely to see all the nature and seascapes. I love how the little flowers pushed through the burnt gorse, nature is so wonderful :) I really want to reach out to some artists here in the lake district, I think it would be so nice to have some artist friends to meet in real life!

    Controlled burning is called 'swailing'. It is done here on Exmoor every year. The gorse and bracken are so rampant these days.

    Beautiful vlog! So inspirational! Your voice is so calming and the music choice is just perfect! I love the way you document memories in your sketches and final artworks. I am happy we met in April and you visited the old lifeboat house to see exhibition I was participating in. Thank you again for that! I also need to mention that the chocolate that you gave to me was amazing! Also exited to see you again soon! :)

    Are you kidding me. You must definitely sing. I found myself distracted with how a sweet voice you have, and trying to place it.
    Such beautiful musicalityin your tone, I would say it's somewhere between The Be Good Tanyas' (waiting around to die) and Bahari's (California), with a slight hint of Lana Del Rey.
    God Bless ❤

      Haha that would be fun Kym, but I'm afraid I wouldn't have the patience to grind it down and mix it up! I have a friend who does that very thing and I have used some of her pigments from some of these spots. Hi Melanie, I’m sorry to read in your most recent newsletter, that your new Domestika course on mixed media sketchbook landscapes has been postponed. I was really looking forward to it, and hope that it will still happen at some point. Until then, I will happily and patiently await your youtube videos!

    • @MelanieChadwick
      @MelanieChadwick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am so sorry Wendi I know you had said, I had worked on prep for a good few months too, so it came as a complete surprise. I really want to create a landscape course, but finding the best way to do it is proving hard work, particularly when you think you have an answer and then it's disrupted.

    • @WendiWells
      @WendiWells 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MelanieChadwick Hello again 🤗 I’m so sorry that all your hard work for your new course has not been given a chance. Have you maybe considered offering your new course on another online art class platform like Etchr Studio, Jeanne Oliver, or Carla Sonheim? Or maybe offering it as an online class through your own website? I’d purchase an online class from you about how to make mixed media landscapes in my sketchbook in a heartbeat! 💛

    I saw your site. Am I right that you make only computer painting for your work as a illustrator, and your sketchbook (hand drawn) work is not bought as professional illustrations? Is it right in general, hand drawn illustration is not "good enough" to be sold for the professional work?

    • @MelanieChadwick
      @MelanieChadwick  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for visiting my site, whilst it may look like a lot of computer-based illustrations, there are still a lot of analogue processes that go into the work, for instance, all my thumbnails and initial roughs are sketched in pencil and I also create hand-made textures and these are combined with my digital process. One client I regularly create work for is a combination of watercolour and line work and I have designed food packaging with analogue illustrations too. So I would say that hand-drawn illustration is certainly used in client work but in my case, I came to keep sketchbooks later in my career, having established a more digital style of work which I became known for providing. Whilst I enjoy the challenge of meeting briefs and serving clients, it can be exhausting to only do work for others so my sketchbook is the place where I can create what I want, without expectations or time constraints and explore the world around me.
