    Thanks Steve for that laugh when you put the recently unsoldered piece for your pocket and laughed about it wondering why it was getting warm. That had me cracking up too. Cheers from Vancouver Canada!

    It is that time of year again momma….New England’s 6th season, aka sill faucet replacement season. 😜👍 Like most repairs, Steve makes it look easy… Like everything else those frost-free outdoor faucets aren’t cheap anymore. Even the re-build kits are at least half the price of a new sill faucet….. Take Steve’s word and remove your garden hose from the faucet when the temps get cold or suffer the sticka shock.

    why not just replace the outside tap here? I am confused, the issue didn't seem to be internal, only with the external tap not shutting off?

      Swedish plumber here and i agree with you. we have really strict rules about anything thats called hot works. cant really solder. use a grinder. weld etc with out having hot work permits so pro press is the way to go here. How ever ive used this really smart propress thing where you put like a ring around the fitting and the jaws on the propress hooks into that ring and you press it. Its still a bit heavy and clumsy to use in tight areas but nothing like those ol massive jaws. But sometimes i wish we could just solder more over here. (if you solder here with out getting that permit and you accidently start a fire its all on you or your company here.) having used 54mm (its almost like your 2") copper press jaws on a ladder before. Not fun.

    I know it is a tough winter environment, but those faucets seem to fail pretty often. I like the inside shut off and purge the line to a regular hose bib when it comes time for winter, am I way off here? I am familiar with cold winter, but not negative numbers for a long period of time.

    • @jonathanmessore1907
      @jonathanmessore1907 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      most of the ones that fail are due to people leaving hoses connected which keeps the water in the cold area and it freezes and goes bad...

      That particular homeowner sounded like an elderly woman, so she’s probably calling in someone to replace if / when needed.
      But I agree with you; at my own house I used the threaded female fitting on the inside when I replaced mine. Next time, just some Teflon tape and screwing on.

      @@plumbbuild6517 - I had a good lumber come and replace some shut off valves recently. The ones where solder was best were soldered. One in particular where solder would have been bad was for a refrigerator ice maker shut off that was in a wall that contained blown in insulation - the pro-press was the right tool for that.

    7:00 Job Security, I would think a female fitting would make the faucet easier to replace in the future assuming you can find a frost free hydrant which is the exact same length. The rubber shutoff washer is right on the other side where he soldered but he took it apart and was good. No leaks that is all that counts in the end.

    • @stevebabiak6997
      @stevebabiak6997 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Those frost free faucets do come in very standardized lengths. There are different standard lengths due to different wall thicknesses and plumbing configuration, so would just have to pick the right one.
