Let's face the reality of the Philippines. The poorest part of Filipino population are the farmers. A large portion of the Filipino population is in - small time - farming, thus poor. Rice, sugar, onions... import with high price on the market... Yet the Filipino farmers can't sell their produce or only below production cost... Land reform... I hear it for 50+ years... As a foreigner and guest in this country I have no right to criticize government.... But I think I did it already....
Hi guys, Frankly I am not surprised ( tho obviously saddened!), at your predicament. What with the climate( excessive rains, occasional drought), which will in coming years become more extreme in variation and predictability ! The never ending tropical insect, disease , never getting a decent vacation ( down time) and other very costly things to manage , makes farming in the Philippines, very precarious ( at least without a serious income stream from elsewhere). As to what else to do to occupy yourselves . I agree with many others comments, keep away from, at least upmarket food establishments. Unless you are based in a major city , with plenty of high earners( of course in that situation, you will also have many competitors!!). As to where to move to( understandably , Maricel thinking Mindanao ), would suggest renting for say six months at various locations ( Davao city area, Gen San, Tagum ,CDO ect) to check out the action and possibilities .. If Miindanao is not obligatory, would check out Northern Luzon, including Baguio , La Union , Pangasinan.. Many large cities with decent facilities, Malls , Medical.Facilities, Educational Establishments( here in Pangasinan for example , we get many people coming from overseas to go to colleges here( Sri Lanka and Nigeria especially!). Thanks for all the education and showing us the journey ! PS, with your back problem Brian, you might qualify for a disability enhancement on your SS, looking at 2023, could be $ 2500 plus , by the time you qualify! A decent income over here! All the best from Pangasinan. Sorry for all the verbage! Lol
First off I am not a troll or A-Hole , I have been watching you since your very first video even when T & B were teaching Maricel how to do youtube and been routing for you but in my observation through the years you have wasted a lot of money on things , like the plateau , you should have followed through and put piggery up there and also kept the other one going that you had , I know with covid it got bad but it looks like now you would be doing great. Also wasted a lot on fish pen , maybe could have got that better with knowledge from experience you had now. Also the shrimp pond you had. Then you spent a lot on fish ponds and abandoned them to quickly. Basically all businesses take time to start a profit and I think you stopped everything to quickly. I think you need to continue fish pond and the one you still have that is made of blocks BUT do not add in the old piggery for now with more fish and also stay with veggies and for piggery you can add a small roof to it and raise the few pigs you have now but don't buy anymore for now. Basically do not spend any more money on anything new and just let what you have in place for now grow on it's own. I still think you can make a good go of everything , just take your time and let the money come to you and don't keep spending anymore. Best of luck and wish you well
Yes, years ago I was curious when I saw the "titel farming in the PH' or so. I expected larger scale farming but never mind, it was to much switching from one thing to another. I just gave up watching and was not surprise when I saw this one "we quit". I have been farming in Germany with a rented farm and farming in Canada having my own farm. All I can say, it was years of hard work, no hired help (to expensive) to be financial successful. I have seen failures around here, people getting into it without experience and knowledge, Emu farm, Market garden, an older couple getting a farm at retirement age, put 200 goats on it, all went broke, I feel sorry for this older couple, they dreamed of it all their life and when they finally retired and fulfilled their dream, it became a nightmare, cost them all their life savings. Anyways, onward ever.
Hospitals leaves you with limited options if ongoing medical is needed. Cebu and Luzon. So few look at this at all. Won’t pay western money but it’s for sure not Philippine money either.
Well... you will have the same problems keeping supplies for a restaurant. Jus' sayin'... and beyond that... even if your food blows the competition away few people will actually want to pay for it... much less leave a tip for your crew. Ask me how I know... and then there's the issues getting your crew to show up after payday because they're hungover... or their kids are sick... or they can't get down the mountain because of heavy rains, etc...etc. etc... And speaking of "long hours"... ha ha ha... plan on 14 hour days... minimum. I could go on & on... but that should give you something to ponder...
Yup my Belgian friend here in Pangasinan, had the same problems, getting reliable staff for his restaurant, he also tried a bakery, selling traditional style continental breads, had supply problems ( getting correct ingredients ect) and he lived a quite large city , well over 160, 000 people Yup long days, if providing fresh ingredients ( not bought in bulk and frozen for weeks( Check out Gordon Ramsey and kitchen nightmares!)), Btw Kevin, Have you heard of Isabel Chapman ( ex UK!) Fresh means early morning visits to markets (5.00 am is late for say for buying fish ! Lol). Luckily tho in the Philippines, even 10 .OO pm seems late to go out ( our local pizza place shuts at 7.30!!??)( when I lived in Spain, many people went out to eat well after 10, 00pm!
@@cynthiagarnham1157 ... Cynthia... nope.. haven't heard of Isabel Chapman but it sounds 'bout right. Bottom line is... between bad weather and worldwide supply chain issues.... I really can't think of anyone that's makin' serious money. Even onions are now more expensive than meat. Huuuummmm.... that said... we are pretty much upside down every single month and I have to keep the boat afloat with my retirement income but all in all it's a good life as I enjoy helping others and giving them opportunity. I also enjoy seeing the kids running around and having a ball at the birthday parties, etc that they have here... so I'm really not complaining as a good life lived is a life worth while.. at least in my reality. Of course the mileage of others may vary... Thanks for the feedback and GBU...
@@Kevinrichardsonministries yup re onions , a group in Manila brought 1700 kgs pre paid and ordered for some folks in Manila from a place near me in Bayambang,Pangasinan recently Farm gate price for white onions was 350 pesos per kg!! PS I actually had a marble sized raw fresh red onion in my sandwich this evening. Felt like a millionaire!!! Lol
@@cynthiagarnham1157 ... Well... now he should know what he can grow "for a profit." he he he... that said... we are having trouble getting white onions at "any cost." Jus' sayin'... personally I think they are all goin' to the elite bunkers for WW III preps just like all those so called "recalls." So stay tuned and prepare... and stay close to JC as this is no game.
Sounds very Bad but... I'm 99% sure it's True ! Had some of that happen to me. Paid a Crew for 5 days, on Monday nowhere to be found. I ask my Wife, she says, you paid them Friday so don't expect them back till around Tuesday !!!
The size of most farms in parts of the Philippines are far too small to be commercial they are only for subsistence farming and the people on them have to get their income from off the farm. They even made it worse by recently reducing the land holdings to 5 hectares. Its a good place to retire if you select a place in an elevated location which will be cooler and not subject to flooding. Its not a place to make money out of farming.
I know a few that do alright with sugar cane and pineapples. They get around the 5 hectare/ high land cost by leasing the farmland from the hereditary land owners. As for the small patch rice sharecroppers, my heart goes out to those poor guys.
A Dumaguete type city has a larger population with disposable income. Better medical as well. That’s my concern if I were you how much clientele is available. Davao as well. The flip side is greater competition in those places. I really hope and pray you get that farm profitable, but what ever may come I wish you all great success in your endeavors. I’ve been looking outside Davao as an area if I ever get out of Arizona. Assisting my family elders is what I’m stuck doing and I’m almost 69 so not a lot of time left. Helping others seems to be my call in life for better or worse. Can’t complain, friends and family all need help. Can’t say I’ll ever live my dream but I still have hope. Just as I hold out hope for you and your family there. God bless.
I have every empathy for you, starting a business in the Philippines, (outside of Manila) is a mine field, as you know there are no two towns the same and it is frustrating to get anything done, to get it done properly takes a miracle. I spent most of my time in the Philippines under the control of the pandemic, 3 years, we are now back in Cyprus to earn some more money for some more security when returning to the Philippines, I was also thinking of a business for my wife, but what? not only do you have to pick the right location you have to pick the right town, for many have no money, they are one day millionaires. I wish you God speed in your journey of life.
Dude, you gave it a shot. You can not make a living in the Philippines without being in politics. Restaurants? Forget it. If you do well 5 others will pop up around you in a matter of weeks not months. Hold on until SSA kicks in and get the hell out. Find a small inexpensive place near the beach raise the kid and drink a cold one. The only foreign business I've seen work here is a German guy has a large farm. He raises cattle and owns a butcher shop. He's cornered the market where I live. Good luck, close it all down and enjoy your retirement.
Hi Brian, long time subscriber here, why not consider Laguna or Quezon Province land is not to expensive there ,and major hospitals are 2 to 5 hrs away if you should need it., you dont need big parcel of land if you do modern farming like Aquaphonics or Hydroponics , grow high value crops mostly like lettuce in greenhouses, incorporate tilapia into the hydrponically grown veggies that way you have less labour overhead, also there is quite a bit of ecotourism there , and internet might be better in Laguna. USA today is not like it was 40 years ago , with all these Mass shooting and divided politics, Healthcare in the West is also unaffordable for most who don't have insurance or can't afford the premium.
Thanks for the upload. It always will be a struggle on a farm? How many farms around the world are flush with cash?? A lot are hundred of thousands or millions of dollars in debt? And just when it looks like they're are about to make money along comes mother nature and throws a curve ball. To make matters worst you are only making Philippine Peso? I came to the realization years that it was going to be a struggle working a farm in The Philippines funnily enough watching your channel? Best of luck over the coming year. As far as finding stuff here in The Philippines??? I'm 5 minutes out of the capital city of Negros Occ and there is a lot of stuff you just can't get?
Yeh mate/ buddy, if you research suicide rate amongst farmers, it is pretty high! The pressure gets to them in the end, back in the UK ( civilised world!! Lol) there is so much official paperwork to be kept up to date, (larger land owners, employ a full time employee or more just to fill in all the forms!).
Looks like you did your research on the restaurant situation. Sounds promising. Hate to see you all suffer and struggle. First visit back for me in a few years. Before I was in the mountains in California south of Tahoe. We had a quick chat once. You surely forgot that! I’ve retired since and moved to South Dakota for a cheaper living. Philippines is always our backup. Koronadel, Mindinao area is where we got family and property. Best wishes. I’ll check in with you guys from time to time.
Restaurants have lots of over heads ,if you go to a larger city then a property large enough to live in let out rooms or add rooms to and provide meals to students and working people would have a steady income and less overheads than a restaurant less stress and more time to live.
Brian sounds wonderful a new adventure go for it and whatever you do keep blogging , it will be good for your little family the three of you fly the nest , they are all adults you would be leaving behind and you would make sure they were ok before you left because you are a kind soul, looking forward to seeing you preparing for the next chapter . Its out there waiting for you 😊.
Restraint. I wouldn't touch one with a barge pole. I myself wouldn't go into any sort off business here in the philipines my wife suggested a couple of times getting a business and I said straight out no look at the stores there and mostare running week to week its hard to see its not all poor management the locals just don't have the cash I came here at 65 to relax and get away from the rat race I wouldn't do what urr doing for all the hassle you have I've watched u since you started and thought I doubt if you'd make much My wife and I went back to Australia to see family get health checks and my wife got a job the day we arrived I like the philipines but I found now food and most things are cheaper back in Australia the food there in philipines is hit and miss in Australia bread is cheep yesterday's bread is taken off shelves and dumped in philipines I used to get brassed off with bread it was well out of date and wouldn't get ore till it was gone and they wonder why I stop going there They need every paceo
After living in the Philippines and now back in USA. I can tell you most Americans have no idea the struggle to live in that country. The Health care. The food. The weather. The bugs. Buying tools. Tires. Motorcycle parts. EVERYTHING IS UNAVAILABLE. WALANG STOCK. I feel your pain. I lived in Marikina. It’s the same. I always mention to my wife restaurants were always empty. Food parks came and went. You go to a restaurant 90 percent of what’s on the menu is unavailable. Why give me a menu. Just tell me what you got. Good Luck Brian. I hope nothing but the best for you.
It depends where you are. IKEA is there now. Also you mentioned about the "bugs" I do not know what part in the U.S.A. you live in, bugs are everywhere. Philippines is a tropical country, just remember that. Farmers in the Philippines are getting help from the Professionals, if you get a chance to watch the "Agribusiness" hosted by Mr. Buddy, the farmers are working hard and profitable from their produce all year long.
Also having a restaurant is a challenge, you have to find a place that is competitive and people go your restaurants if the food is good. There are restaurants in the U.S.A. that are struggling and closed down..Your restaurant has to be competitive with the others because people love to eat.
Hey Bry,,, so appreciate your efforts,,, I appreciate your work ethics,,, Davao City is an excellent place to move,,, we are from northern Mindanao,,, Calinan district,,, the city is growing rapidly,,, an excellent place for a restaurant in a remote area,,, perhaps a pizza joint,,, Filipinos are hungry for pizza,,, espresso is another option with giant cookies,,, chili hotdogs,,, but one thing I’ll tell you,,, keep up the momentum,,, your work ethics are relentless,,, perhaps buying used vehicles and rebuilding them,,, you have a mind that can move forward,,, DONT QUIT my friend,,,keep your head up,,, still an American ryt!
My Parents grew up in Dirt Farming Families, as did their Parents and those before them. Growing up we would visit Uncles and Aunts on their Farms, then in time, my Cousins took over the Farms with big ideas. One by one I watched them all crumble. Dirt Farming is the one thing I have sworn I would never do. My Wife grew up in a Dirt Farming Family and she has told me of the hard times they endured. It is something I do not wish upon her or our Daughter here, so, against the advice of many Foreigners here, we are starting to get into Pig Farming. I look around, and it is the one constant that is the glue of Filipino Society second only to Rice. Every Fiesta, every Birthday, every Wedding or celebration, there he is! That big Brown Crispy delicious Baboy Lechon!! We started with two Sty's and two Long White Sows. First Breeding was a disaster, #1 Sow had 6 Still-born Piglets, #2 Sow had 4x live and 1 still-born. Second Breeding; #1 Sow fell Pregnant but #2 Sow did not. Three months on #1 Sow gave birth to 16 Piglets. She had 14 Teats which was a worry, then she tore 1 off and another dried up leaving her with 12 Teats, so my Wife has actually been sleeping at the Sty's on a fold up Bed outside so she can get up every hour and rotate 8 Piglets at a time so each batch gets a fair share of the Milk. It has been very tiring on her, and with me being disabled, being the Financier is the best I can do to help her. We have just put a Duroc Boar over Sow #2 in the hope of gaining some MEATY Piglets toward the end of the year once they are fattened up. Fingers Crossed... My Plan is to have 5 Sows in total. We are currently extending the Sty's and will connect the new ones to the Septic Tank (which we one day hope to harvest Gas from) and we have included a larger Room for Fatteners. We will look at keeping 2 or 3 good Sows from this batch (as the Boar was also a Long White) then in future Breed with a Duroc for Meatier Piglets. This is the only way I can think where my Wife is doing something she is happy with, and in time can afford an assistant and provide an Income for her and our Daughter when I am no longer on this big Rock. From that Income she can also slowly finish building the House we dreamed we would live in, but is still a long way from being completed as Health issues have been giving me a bit of a beating of late. We are also planting many Malunggay and Mulberry Trees to harvest leaves from all years round to add to the Commercial Feeds, as well as growing Banana's so after we harvest the Fruit we can also recycle those into Feed. Step by step, and doing this Filipino style, I hope we can get there where we are comfortable, but living by the Local Markets here, I feel so much pity watching those weather beaten broken Farmers toting their Produce in each week to sell for a pittance where they still go home Dirt Poor. 😪
I have been watching you from the start and I have enjoyed the many hours of content you have made. I havent always agreed with you but you have stayed true to your beliefs and it was your channel not mine perhaps some of the trolls could have considered that. I can see the exhaustion in your face and it is wise to look at your options. In 33 years i have rarely seen an expat with limited means successfully run a restaurant or hotel in the philippines. The ones i have seen doing alright have all become victims of the land owner tipping them out to grab a going concern. so be wary. I wish you some overdue luck in the future.
Yes .BRIAN ..THAT FARM IS BEATING YOU DOWN ALMOST EVERY DAY...SO MUCH STRESS 😩 AND CAN'T STOP ALWAYS COMING UP WITH MONEY TO PAY 4 LABOR AND OTHER OVERHEAD..OR WE COULD JUST CALL IT OVERLOAD!! HEAVEN FORBID 🚫 IF YOU HAD A STROKE OR SOMETHING WHERE YOU COULDN'T WALK OR GET OUT OF BED !! SALE THAT MONEY PIT...RELAX GET YOUR SSI..WHEN YOU TURN 62....AND ENJOY YOUR FAMILY..I WISH YOU ONLY THE BEST IN LIFE..GOD bless you sir 🙏🏽 Good luck if you and your wife start up a restaurant or some other kind of business!! Take care and move forward!!
It's been a long journey for you, good battle, lessons learned, friends made. Now take the leap in the future, see what else the Philippines has in store for you. Relax enjoy the tropic scenery, you initially moved there for. Have you noticed the scenery in awhile? One door closes another door opens. Wheels of life keep rolling, if you wanna see it then stay out of the ruts, makes for a smoother ride. So Good job guys and gals, it's not the end, Only the beginning of something new. Ps. Fyi, take a look at bees, lots of money in that liquid gold, a lot easier to feed than a pig, they don't get out of your fence, easy to manage, and easy to train people to do, and you can expand quickly and cheaply once you understand the principle of it.
They already have American bees there, check out Bob binnie, kamon renolds, South Carolina happy bees there are many others as well that's just what pops in my head first thing. A Good starting point anyway
Enjoy your time with family and yur health is most important, making money in Phil is difficult, better to make money home and enjoy there. As for Restaurant bisiness, stay away, food inflation and restaurant will tie you up 24/7, gl
Wow now THIS is a different kind of expat in the Philippines channel! Whatever you decide I wish you and your family the best. May I ask where you're located in the Philippines?
You gave a good go of it Brian, I hope the coming year is good to you. If you do decide to move. Check out Tacloban as it is a city with everything one needs. Some things are best left for the young to figure out and play with.
Concur.. Small time farming is a wonderful life but it is very tough to raise a family on the profits. You have some really crappy dirt to grow most things, in addition to the disease and pest problems. Best of luck in everything you do. Many of us will always be glad to have called you a "friend". Try to investigate if realestate prices are moving one way or the other...
dang Bryan.. A Cebu province might be the place you looking for. Mindanao is not safe for you Be sure to inform us with your next channel. Good luck!!!
Good luck Brian,i like the suggestion about seeing if you would qualify for SSI disability, then you would have a nice cushion to fall back on, move to Marcels house in Mindanao if its all paid off then figure something to do on the side
I would cut the labor cost to just family and do everything yourself. Quit pushing so hard and live a simpler life. Spend youtube money more on yourself
Well there are not enough hours in the day to do everything myself and I don't get what would be the benefit of having family only?🤔 They still have to be paid the same as everyone else🤠
Really hope things work out for you and your family, been watching your channel for the past year (will eventually watch the older vlogs) and have learned a lot and appreciate your honesty with things. Looking forward to seeing what happens in the next year for you and yours! Shawn
Sorry to hear of the troubles on the farm. I assume Tatay and Gin do not want to buy the farm either. I would suggest getting part of the piggery setup and ready to run, that would make it more desirable to some people. I hate to see you put another year in just to sell. I hope you find your way, maybe a sari sari store with a grill on a main road somewhere. Either way, i will keep watching and praying for you guys.
I'm not surprised, it's hard to have a profitable business in the Philippines. most business fail here. With SS you can have something to depend on. try to hold on until then. Filipinos will be your down fall. at 62 you can open your restaurant. and make a little money. but a bigger city is nice.
YOU CAN STILL USE YOUR TH-cam CHANNEL AND JUST CHANGE THE TITTLE BECAUSE IT IS HARD TO START AGAIN THEN FIND ANOTHER SUBSCRIBER,OU CONTINU BUT CHANGE THE TITTLE NOT FARMING ANYMORE BUT SOMETHING NEW YOU CAN THINK,CONTINUE YOUR CHANNEL....
Farming tough, if you can afford to stop, just grow enough food for your family. Farming for a profit is really difficult. Going from farming to running a restaurant is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Do something less time consuming.
To be honest I wasn't worried about the farming alot but was interesting to watch. I loved the pigs and chickens but mostly I love the channel because of y'all and Charlie and red red.... I'd love to see them both grow... I felt like part of the family even tho you really didn't know me... Keep the channel going just change the name. Truly saddens me 😔😔
Brian you have pigs that will have maybe 10 babies each plus rest of the fields fish sales vedgies at the door I see a good year when all fields are planted
Exactly right , he needs to let what he has grow and STOP spending money on things , do not try and make fish pens at old piggery , if anything spend a few bucks on a roof there and grow the pigs he has in them. Think of all the money that has been wasted over the years in material and especially labor it cost to do the plateau , dig out fish pens and make the ocean fish pens and house. He has enough there now to let grow and make money
I'll be retiring in 3 months and I don't want to work that hard even at 46. So I totally understand and at least the TH-cam channel gave you the income to be able to stay in the Philippines with your wife and child. I'll miss the Video Misadventures😜.... Also they say the best way to turn a large Fortune into a small fortune Fortune is the restaurant in the Philippines so be careful but I do wish you the best
@@PatrickFDolan Fair enough Paddy, so what are you doing still watching his videos ? For example, I don't care for oysters, so guess what, I don't eat them anymore, it's quite a simple plan, even children know what they like and dislike and avoid the stuff they find distasteful, so perhaps you just need to find a different channel that embodies the qualities you admire, of course, we'll all miss you, ingat!!!
Breaks my heart to hear this news. I feel your pain and dilemma. I have learned a lot from you. Thank You and best wishes to you and your family in the future. Hope you keep the videos up on TH-cam.
Ok first off, you can collect social security at age 62, which is 1.5 years from now for you, not 2.5 years..second, you are working too hard...also , your farm and its various ventures were the basis of a successful TH-cam channel, which you would not have if it were not for the farm...a good plan for you might be to wind down the farm, sell in one year, and you can collect SS 6 months later... keep your channel, but shift to a focus of how to live a life of ease for expats
Sad to hear if things fail but I know the hard work you put in, in a place that has nothing to help, just grind, grind and yes the Curse AGE lol been their a while now older than you and I hear you big time on that, the mind says go and the body says no, not happening. What ever you do I hope it works out for sure. But as a thought I wouldn't give up the TH-cam part just continue as a new venture ; Just adjust the new part of ur life in the Philippines to now move on this is what it we do now. It don't have to be work all the time. The thing is Brian people like me old and many health issues sitting around looking at TH-cam is going to watch something!!! and TH-cam is it for most you cab see different parts of the world as the common people live. And a lot of viewers are OK with that so if you decide to show that in ur family life for a few dollars, why not. Just some thing to think about, many other channels are doing just that getting a pension to live off and make a few bucks on TH-cam for fun things or travel from time to time, it don't have to be full time just a hoppy with some minor benefits. JUst saying Cheers
I think it's in your blood..watching things grow and produce. Yes the weather definitely hasn't helped or Odette. Maybe scale down a couple fields 🤔...makevit more manageable and go from there...
I've been watching you since several years now and doesn't surprise me that you are tired! To come to another country like the Philippines and start a new life by doing farming at your age is not the best thing to do. You are only getting older and it's more heavy to work so many hours a day. If you were in your 40' that might been another thing. And on top of it all we now have been through a very strict lockdown period where things didn't become any more easy to say the least. And as you say that your power cuts and slow internet doesn't make your life any better. Here where I'm living now in Ilocos Norte we have now fiber pldt which is 1700php a month and it's fast! 160/150 d/u. There is an odd internet brownout now and then but mostly good and we do not suffer from many weekly electrical brownouts either. It can be weeks in between. I'm 70 now and my wife is 64 and now taken over some of the farming her father did before, mostly rice and corn. Things that require a lot of laborers and I would prefer to just plant fruit trees on the fields if it was me. Also we have now not had much rain since end of November and the dry season is to last until Mai. There is water in kanals coming from the near mountains so some irrigation can be done. But otherwise the sun is strong and hot here even now in this time of the year.
It always is a battle when you are in business for your self and your UT channel is part of your farm income that is were you are getting your formatting for the channel that is just my opinion I was in business for myself for 45 years and it was always a battle and life still is a battle every day , now I had to retire because of my health and life is still a battle, I have been watching you and your family for years and Beth and Ter
Restaurant work at your age would b a killer, 12 to 14 hours a day for 7 days a week. I’m amazed you’ve been able to survive on such a small farm. I think you said it was about 5 acres. Keep this TH-cam channel, and let this be a feeder for a new channel. I’m sure you know that your present channel is having a slow death. Often fewer than 1,000 views per video. The are a lot of nice places to visit in Bohol, Chocolate hills. Tarziers, churches. Do a travel channel. Hookup with other expats, and interview them. Best wishes.
So true Brian. Farming can have it upside and downs don't worry about them stupid trolls they making stupid videos we don't c them farming wish u the best brian

Get yourself a rotortiller. Build 10.5m x 50m bamboo framed greenhouses get some drip tape irrigation you will be fine. Stop paying daily only pay a fixed price for jobs in the farm.

Partition a 200sqm section where their house is… this is the Filipino way. But I hear ya if they’ll move too
Well... you will have the same problems keeping supplies for a restaurant.
Yup my Belgian friend here in Pangasinan, had the same problems, getting reliable staff for his restaurant, he also tried a bakery, selling traditional style continental breads, had supply problems ( getting correct ingredients ect) and he lived a quite large city , well over 160, 000 people Yup long days, if providing fresh ingredients ( not bought in bulk and frozen for weeks( Check out Gordon Ramsey and kitchen nightmares!)),
Btw Kevin, Have you heard of Isabel Chapman ( ex UK!) Fresh means early morning visits to markets (5.00 am is late for say for buying fish !
Well... now he should know what he can grow "for a profit." he he he... that said... we are having trouble getting white onions at "any cost." I'm 99% sure it's True !
God bless.
Hurry and go bring your parents and enjoy life
I have every empathy for you, starting a business in the Philippines, (outside of Manila) is a mine field, as you know there are no two towns the same and it is frustrating to get anything done, to get it done properly takes a miracle.
Thanks for watching

The Chinese followed by the Koreans are the real knowledgeable foreign businessmen here. They know how to play the 60/40 equity rule.
I myself wouldn't go into any sort off business here in the philipines my wife suggested a couple of times getting a business and I said straight out no look at the stores there and mostare running week to week its hard to see its not all poor management the locals just don't have the cash I came here at 65 to relax and get away from the rat race
I wouldn't do what urr doing for all the hassle you have I've watched u since you started and thought I doubt if you'd make much
My wife and I went back to Australia to see family get health checks and my wife got a job the day we arrived I like the philipines but I found now food and most things are cheaper back in Australia the food there in philipines is hit and miss in Australia bread is cheep yesterday's bread is taken off shelves and dumped in philipines I used to get brassed off with bread it was well out of date and wouldn't get ore till it was gone and they wonder why I stop going there
They need every paceo

The ones i have seen doing alright have all become victims of the land owner tipping them out to grab a going concern. so be wary. I wish you some overdue luck in the future.
what do you mean by "victims of the land owner tipping them out to grab a going concern"?
Yes .BRIAN ..THAT FARM IS BEATING YOU DOWN ALMOST EVERY DAY...SO MUCH STRESS 😩 AND CAN'T STOP ALWAYS COMING UP WITH MONEY TO PAY 4 LABOR AND OTHER OVERHEAD..OR WE COULD JUST CALL IT OVERLOAD!!
Hahaha lol I agree, been there done that, the mental drain is not worth any of that money in the food industry
I have heard of substandard work from Filipinos multiple times. Have you considered farming in Thailand ? I've heard they get things right.
Can't own land in Thailand as a foreigner.
@@Pat_KraPao oh you're married to a filipina, i forgot to consider that.

Have you looked into greenhouses? There was a study done by an Australian research group in Leyte the was interesting and enlightening.

A Cebu province might be the place you looking for. Mindanao is not safe for you

Good luck Brian,i like the suggestion about seeing if you would qualify for SSI disability, then you would have a nice cushion to fall back on, move to Marcels house in Mindanao if its all paid off then figure something to do on the side
Very sad news. I will continue watching and commenting. I can't help but feel that you are so close to making it work.

Hello Mr. Brian, you are working very hard on your farm, probably it is time for you to slow down and relax. God bless you and your family.
Oh no restaurants too high of a headache as well..,
I would cut the labor cost to just family and do everything yourself.

Life brings change all the time 🙂 I wish you all the best Guys, what ever you decide, I will and have enjoyed your content on your videos,
I'm not surprised, it's hard to have a profitable business in the Philippines. most business fail here.
Perhaps 🤠
Farming tough, if you can afford to stop, just grow enough food for your family. Farming for a profit is really difficult. Going from farming to running a restaurant is like jumping from the frying pan into the fire. Do something less time consuming.
To be honest I wasn't worried about the farming alot but was interesting to watch. I loved the pigs and chickens but mostly I love the channel because of y'all and Charlie and red red.... I'd love to see them both grow... I felt like part of the family even tho you really didn't know me... Keep the channel going just change the name. Truly saddens me 😔😔
Good points, the best one is your not getting younger, maybe best find something you can handle in years to come.
I wish you and your family the best how ever it turns out.
what you did to others it will come back to you😘
Oh look, it's a modern day Nostradamus, go on then, tell us what he did to others in your opinion?
Go for 1 more year, and if you are making a profit then let Tatay manage the farm. You can still live there.
Even aussie is selling some of his land must be in the same boat not enough income from the farm how would he be without his pension?
You have tried a lot of different things since you got there, if it doesn’t work, there’s no shame in moving on. Good luck 👍
Thanks for watching 🤠

Nice effort bud. Thanks for sharing. F those freaking trolls.

I really hope that you don't truly give up. I'm from Iowa and I was raised on a farm. I'd like to know where the farm is?
I hope that things will get better for you buddy. I think you will have to make some cuts. I know you will figure something out. You always have. 😊
Why don’t you get internet service? I paid 15K for the connection and 1200 a month unlimited, I hope you will let them keep their land at least… 15:21

maybe just step back for a bit.. take a break? Scale down, and address labour issues. Right now food security is a great thing to have, even if its just for yourselves. Here is hoping for a solid 2023...
With all due respect if you haven’t made money by now you never will. One year won’t make a difference. Be smart put it up for sale now.
I disagree 🤠
@@aforeignerfarminginthephil3374 I stand by what I said. I’m not trying to be disrespectful I’m just telling you as a smart businessman that retired at 49. Put the farm up for sale and stop with your new ideas of going into business.
@@aforeignerfarminginthephil3374 the proof is in the pudding
I know you know this but I’m going to say it anyway when you keep doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results you know what that is the definition of
I have learned a lot from you and have seen how hard you work and care for your family and animals
I wish you the very best in whatever you decide to do
Why can’t you just let them have part of the land instead of kicking them out and give them compensation…they should of not even bothered with all that sweat and mowny
Sell up go and injoy you self may be a restaurant good luck to you 👍
I've been looking forward to you running a restaurant...lanhawk has a successful restaurant, maybe contact him for advice. Tbh I wouldn't wait a year just do it now.
Get yourself a rotortiller. Build 10.5m x 50m bamboo framed greenhouses get some drip tape irrigation you will be fine. Stop paying daily only pay a fixed price for jobs in the farm.
you know what bryan, youv married the right person for companionship and care, shes family oriented person , and not a business savvy or articulate one or shall we say they were not so "literate" line. And for that business insights of yours ,i think your on the Right boat and on a wrong crew , it will sink eventually. I've "been there and done that" "piggery and fishery" business of yours way back years ago in a landlocked province somewhere north Phils. Back Then the market demand was so low, the population is not even a quarter of that compared to Talibon Bohol, but still we thrive and manage to grow our business.
Thank you for bringing us so many great shows, whatever you do in the future, hope the channel continues
Thanks for watching 🤠
You are looking defeated Brian.
If you have a retirement check coming every month you should be ok even without other income.
What about your burger joint idea?
@@PatrickFDolan Another GD Mead troll..I should not have to explain about pricing, well here goes troll...you charge a price that is sustainable in the area you are setup in.
@@PatrickFDolan no
Your land is too low, about the only thing that you can grow is rice. I figured you would take retirement and get out. I don't blame you.
They say the average TH-cam channel last 7 years so you’re on the long end of that….
.. salamat ..
You have to do what you have to do. I understand that
,good, so the money should stop you are being used if you quit they can't take anymore free ride is over ..

66 million Americans collect Social Security. What political party would commit suicide to even try reduce it, let alone to end it?
@@PatrickFDolan Social security will continue no problem. But it is possible that the Philippines will become a more expensive place to live as is happening with Thailand and Malaysia.
