Although you may trek via different route that is Barshaini-RudranagTemple(Nakthan village)-Kheerganga. But it's steeper than the other one. The path is clear, you won't get lost there. There are also many villages on the way, you can ask villagers for the guidance. A lot of people does this trek specially via travel companies.....you can also follow those guys.

first of all it is not possible to have a descent and ascent to kheerganga in a day. second thing is be careful while you trek kheerganga in winters as the trek would be either full of snow or wet as well as muddy. you can have a cab from Bersaini to Tosh as bus don't ply on that route. Yes, depends on weather. If heavy snowfall occurs then you can't trek. Also you won't find any camps up there during late december.
