I can’t even a draw a straight line on a paper! I have an iPad Pro, Apple Pencil and my dream is to spend weekends sitting in a park, beach, on a bench by the road side sketching what I see. I am 40 years old and I am going to enrol myself to a sketching class. I watch every video of yours and just ENVY you
James, your tutorials are so helpful. I still struggle with tree shape and textures that seem so effortless for you, but I think it’s getting easier and looking a bit better. I appreciate your patience in really working the textures. Please keep it up! These videos are very helpful for really mastering the tools and techniques in procreate. Thanks again, and have a great day!

I want to thank you so much, I just finished this, and it came out beautiful!! Because of you, I got my confidence back in illustrations😄 massive thank you again :)
Wonderful tutorial. Really appreciate that you explain the how as well as the why. Tried to do it justice, posted mine on IG, got a lot of positive feedback from one of your previous tutorials. I really love the landscapes so please keep them coming.
Hi,thanks for the beautiful videos, wondering if you are doing some others subjects than landscape? The other question is I notice the colours on my I pad pro 2021 12.9 “ are more darker than the one on yours tutorial, yours are more bright, is anything to do with setting? I’m allowed to print them on canvas for my home ? Thanks you for your hard work!
I noticed the same thing. I tried changing from P3 to RGB but it didn’t seem to make a difference. Not sure why 🤷🏻♀️ I even downloaded some of the colours from code but they were the same.
I am getting into procreate this has helped me with brushes and use of them.... ty for this I appreciate it, I thought I was a GOD at art till I saw this XD
I don't know why but my brush strokes seem to come out much wider than shown. I even reset the brush thinking maybe I had modified it on a previous tutorial but it still is 2-3 times as thick.
Excellent work James, I do have a question though; Is the new 8th generation iPad enough or should I get an iPad Air instead? It's double the price in my location... The Pro is out of the question due to the price difference being too significant in my area
I know I’m not who you want replying to you but I have the 8th generation (I believe it’s also referred to as 10.2” version iPad) and it’s great! It’s my first ever iPad and it was not only one of the more affordable options but it does pretty much everything the other ones do. I’d say if you want one but don’t want to spend a fortune then yes, the 8th gen is a great option. You could always use the 8th gen for a few years and save money on the side to buy one of the pro ones in a few years. That’s what I’ll probably try to do, but as of currently I love my 8th gen! The air is so much more for just 64GB than the 128GB 8th gen and with the money you save you can get the pencil. Again, I know I’m not the one you wanna hear from but I thought I could help too!
I first bought the iPad 8 and returned it because it does not live up to my expectations. If you consider doing digital art, digital planning and maybe some editing of photos and videos in luma fusion and affinity photo the iPad 8 is not the right iPad for. That’s why I bought the air 4 instead. But if you use it for watching stuff and. Ayse draw a few times a month it will be good for you
@@onegr8dancer I appreciate the reply none the less! It's always important to have feedback from multiple viewpoints! I think I will save up a little more, because the Air suits her needs a little better and offers a bit more longevity with new updates of IOS and what jot-
Could you plzz make a tutorial on how to draw a portrait on procreate from a reference photo of a person... Have been searching everywhere for it but have not got any good tips
I painted an entire picture from one your tutorials and everything came out different shades of grey it appears. I know you said the pallets we csn download are the shades but mine are coming out in my drawings pretty much grey tones?
You’d have to show me the painting you produced for me to tell if the colours are incorrect. They definitely aren’t as vibrant as they appear on camera. Try comparing it with the finished still image that I show you at the end of the video.
@@JamesJulier-Artist I completed the seashore sunset landscape tutorial you had and everything looks grey and also blurry. Ive tried to do other tutorials of yours to see if the colors are true but all looks grey toned no mstter which picture i do. I have down’oaded all the pallets you have for the videos ive tried. Im frusterated. How can i show you the deawing i completed so u can tell me your thoughts?
When you say grey, do you mean more grey than you expected, less saturated? Or do you mean literally grey with no colours at all? Like I say the colours look more saturated on camera, which is why I provide the palettes. You can tag me on an Instagram post, my Instagram is james_julier or join my Facebook group and share it there facebook.com/groups/1057800517887628/ I’ve seen a load of paintings produced using the palettes and they look the same as mine, less saturated than in the video, but not colourless. Send me your results and let me see.
Ah I wondered if you’d keep trying, i’ll not bother then, I do wish apple would make a pencil/pen like the Wacom one, they keep missing a trick there I think
I’ve noticed you always make you first layer the background color layer. Is there a particular reason you do this on a new layer instead of the default “background” layer?
I’d love to do that for all my videos but honestly I talk so much it’d take me longer to that than making the rest of the videos. I might do it when I get chance though
Just lovely. Totally fits my Solstice mood in a winter without much blue sky or snow, but still lots of beauty.

When you are selecting the colours for this painting, do you play around with the colour wheel until you feel that it is a perfect match?

I’ve noticed you always make you first layer the background color layer. Is there a particular reason you do this on a new layer instead of the default “background” layer?
