I remember seeing those Lucky Star shirts that just have the characters' uniforms printed on them wwwww. I was tempted to get one of them at some point because of how funny they look and how ridiculous the concept is. I had no idea they came with a DVD, which I guess would explain why I see them everywhere. Neat collection :3 it's bittersweet to see all the fun and enthusiasm of these physical media, which was pushed aside in order to make room for streaming services and accessibility. More people should be encouraged to physically collect what they love and pry it from the hands of these shady tech giants that don't have their best interest at heart. That definitely isn't anime-exclusive, either.
Indeed. The death of anime DVD box sets came lockstep with the death of instruction manuals in video games, more or less. Yet, a decade or so later and it seems like the amount of collectors who care about these things has multiplied exponentially. Here we are trading money back and forth on the second hand market and distributors aren't really capitalizing on it. There are at least companies like Limited Run Games for vidya and Anime Limited for anime that are putting out interesting collector's editions- though neither really is as exciting despite being arguably a better evolution of the concept.
the first "generation" (before nidaime) is one of my favorite anime and manga. I watched the series at a perfect time that profoundly influenced my personality and my life thereafter. genshiken hit even harder when I revisited the series when I was about to graduate uni myself. there are some problematic themes introduced later into the story that retroactively twists a lot of my favorite aspects of it, though I tend to overlook that. Nidaime is its own beast with many problems. but I have written fairly extensively (and adapted a few into videos) about the manga and a few select moments in the series that I think about all the time, so check that out if you want a more.
New Parz-kino just dropped lets go
more on the way :3
