Написано е по време на едно от многото затваряния (в затвор), защото обявява Яхушуа за възкръсналия Господ. Писмото е насочено към група хора, които Павел не е срещал, създали църковна общност, която Павел не е започнал. Църковната общност в Колоса е била започната от колега на Павел, Епафраса, който е от този град. Епафрас наскоро бил посетил Павел в затвора, за да му съобщи колко добре се справяли колосяните като цяло. Но споменава и също някои от културните потискания, изкушаващи ги да напуснат Яхушуа. Павел пише писмото до колосяните за да ги окуражи да обърнат внимание на проблемите, повдигнати от Епафрас и да ги предизвика към по-вилика отдаденост към Яхушуа.

Това е центърът на първа глава, поема относно разпнатия и екзалтираниа Месия. (Колосяни 1 15:20- поема). Има 2 паралелни строфи. Пълно е с език и описаншя на книги Битие и Изход, от Псалми и Притчи. Първата строфа описва как Яхушуа е истинският образ на Бог.
В Него целият характер и причина на Бог е въплътен в човек. Той е Първороден, както гласи фраза в стария завет, относно божествения статус на Яхушуа над всички творения. Той споделя личността на Единият Истински Създател- Бог. И чрез Него, всичко материално, всички сили и власти, духовни и човешки са били създадени. В Яхушуа Месията откриваме Автора и Царя на всичко създадено.
Във втората строфа откриваме, че Той е Този, Който носи новото създаване. Той и Главата на ново тяло, което е народът на Яхушуа. Народът Му е новото човечество, което е прототип на Неговото Възкресение.

Colossians is my favourite book of the bible! Chapter 3 is such an amazing passage, underrated if anything, shows practically how Christians should be living their everyday lives

Most of us did not grow up in a household like the one Paul describes here, that's okay. We can all change who we are. We must change who we are. If you think that's impossible I say it is possible. Turn to God/Jesus and it will happen.
