No fluff, just a quick explanation of the Watch Me and Follow Me Modes on the Yuneec Q500 4K. Sorry for the poor lighting but I had to get this video up quick as I promised someone and I'm not able to do it the rest of this week.

I've had this quad for about four years now, and I never knew I could change the camera to the PRO andthen have the camera settings. I now have to Velcro a battery to the bottom of the quad, but it works great. I also put a number of strobe lights on it. Thanks for the great info.
Great instruction video Doc. The q500+ 4K is no doubt a great drone with excellent camera quality.
I'm still leaning to the Inspire 1 for commercial work, and for just having fun. Particularly the agility and speed makes me pretty much sold on this bad boy.
Again the 500+ 4K is probably one of the easiest drones to fly and is backed up with great customer service. I'm just saying.....

Nice quick overview of the watch me and follow me mode's on the Q500 4K. I hope to have mine in sometime this week :-) I started to ask why there was tape on your controller, then I realize your covering up the longitude and latitude LOL. Thanks for sharing my friend.

The actual horror stories I have heard are typically from DJI, not Yuneec, but as you mentioned demand can sometimes effect the customer service of any company going through growing pains. Lately, from what I have read, DJI is begining to show signs of improvement in the customer service arena which can only be good news.
Lance J. Danks I agree with you on that point Lance. Wish DJI would still take care of me on my defective battery I was shipped with my NEW Phantom3 Pro. Long story and in the end, I ended up throwing the dam battery away since DJI shipped it back to me after dropping it saying there was nothing wrong with it!!! I couldn't even use it since it had a dead cell and would give me critical battery warnings every time I flew. I ended up purchasing a new battery on my dime! Thanks DJI!!!!!
+Drone Doctor I have had a camera malfunction and due to the recent demand I was informed that it would be awhile before they could fix and send my camera back. I did complain about how long it has been and how much money I had spent and they said they would do everything they could. Today Patrick from Yuneec informed me that they would replace the camera and I offered to pay for overnight shiping back to NY. So hopefully tomorrow or the next day I can be out flying again! Thank you Yuneec and Patrick at customer service!

Does the Q500 remote have waypoint navigation? I heard it did not years ago. I am hoping it does now.
I hear your frustration! So this leads me to my own delimma, I love the new Yuneec H920 due be released mid to late August. But wow! by the time I add gimbal and camera I'm looking at $6,500 to $7000 and possibly beyond. So I'm considering the $2800 Inspire 1. I just don't see justifying the hefty cost difference and is H920 really that far superior to the Inspire 1?
I understand the Inspire1 is designed for upgrades, i.e. camera, props, etc. Your thoughts?
Lance J. Danks I LOVE the H920, but to justify the costs........ I can't with the level of playing as it is a hobby for me and not much of a business. The Inspire does everything I need it to and more. I understand I am on my own if something needs to be replaced, but the dam thing is just that great to fly............. and much cheaper!!! Unless you are doing major production and need to use 5D cameras or better, I can't see spending that kind of money.

I'm always planning on having the bird in site but I do loose video feed here and there. I'm in a very congested wifi area and film a lot in a marina.do you think it is worth doing?
+zyskman78 Now that is a tough question. I know those range extenders Frank has over there work really well though. Call Frank and see what he tells you. Tell him to spoke to the DroneDoc and I sent you over to talk to him about it. He may have more ideas for you that I can't post here........ Let me know how it turns out! How fast will it follow you? I want to follow a horse while barrel racing? will it keep up? 20-30mph or so..
couple questions. when flying in follow me mode, does maintain the same distance from when you engaged "follow me"? also, does it automatically avoid objects when following you? thanks
Follow Me Mode maintains same distance away from transmitter when smart mode is activated. There is NO obstacle avoidance other than this called.....pilot!😆😆😆😆
Hey Doc I have left a few messages and sent emails to Carolina Dronz. I have had no contact back from them and it's been almost 2 weeks. My main question to Carolina Dronz would be, does the intelite range extender work with the Chroma 4k with the st10+? Are they normally this behind with follow up or should I just hang in there? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Steve

Hello Drone Docter , i love your vids thank you ! i have bought the Q500 4k ,what i dont understand is in smart mode the folow me mode is always on . i dont like that , i can fly away from me but when its flying back its not going over me ,i dont now how to explane it the right way. i feel more relaxing with the smart mode so can you disable that folow me in the smart mode ?
why do you have two blue lights on on the transmitter ?? what does it mean ??? i only get the middle one on my control
+Cabesitas 713 What two blue light? You mean the indicators for wifi link to the camera and the SAT link indicator next to it? You should have both on yours also......... I'm looking to buy a drone but I can't make up my mind if I want to typhoon 500 or the DJII professional three 4K I guess the customer service is one nightmare and what is your opinion on the customer service and the drone itself if I was to make a choice just for myself and some aerial shots

+LARRY D Larry, ok, it's been several days now since I have tried to reach out to Yuneec and it's obvious things have changed over there BIGTIME since their news release of the H. NO response from them via emails at the local levels But, I will give my thumbs up to Yuneec in Europe as they responded to me right away! Too bad I'm not in Europe.....hahahaha, Anyway, I won't say to do this, but I "heard" of people doing a test call into the support line at Yuneec to see how it goes for them and they also did one for DJI both for the P3 and for the Inspire lines as a comparison. I received many many emails about the results and I was very surprised to say the least. I will leave it up to you to figure out on your own though what type of results they received........ Check out my other videos and make sure you look at the dates they were published because it's obvious things change in this fast paced drone world and while you can be relevant one moment, you can be not needed the next. Most important thing I can tell you is to make sure you purchase your bird, whatever you decide, from a GOOD dealer so if you ever need them, they will be there for you. How is the video quality during night flights with the 4K? It doesn't look bad at 40'
trochartist I have to admit, the Inspire1 camera is better at filming in low light. While the Q500 4K does allow for camera ISO selections and so on, the Inspire camera is really great. The P3 camera isn't bad, but not up to the Inspire quality at night. The Q500 does a good job, but you have to play with the settings more and in really really dark settings, not as sensitive. The Q is still more than adequate for what most will ever use it for though.
Drone Doctor Drone DoctorGood to know, I was wondering if the the available settings settings on the ST10+ remote gave it a little bit of an edge over its comparable competitors. Definitely not a big deal though.

mornintimeproduction Not really unless you want to add a totally different system from the included stock one. If you really want true FPV and max range, look at the P3. Only thing is the video is much more jerky and the panning isn't quick as clean as with the Q500. But the Q500 is easier to fly if you are learning. If you have experience, then no problems looking at DJI.....

+Kurt Kanahi Try taking out your SD card, powering it off and replacing the card. If that doesn't work, format your card or replace it with another one and tell me if that helped.

When I got the transmitter on and the typhoon on and I wait a couple of mins for it to bind, it seems that my camera is pointed just a little to the left. It seem that the camera is not line up dead center of the Typhoon. Any advance on this issue? and also when I try to take a snap shot it tells me that the snap shot fail. I sure it just some that is simple to fix or something that I'm not doing right. Thanks for any info.

+Alex Gonzalez Just get it up above any trees or obstacles such as telephone poles, power poles, buildings Ect. Height is your friend in follow me mode on a bike in a neighborhood. 😆👍🏻 Test it first before you take off riding around and have someone watching out for you. Another words, have a spotter👍🏻👍🏻
please can some one help i think my q500 is stuck in fail safe mode as i have a flashing red light and is making a bleeping sound how do i get it out of this mode so i can start my quad?
+stephen strassen Sounds like it could be a few different things stephen. Call Yuneec tech support, they can walk you through some trouble shooting steps to get you back in the air fast. You can try to delete your profile and make a new one, rebind your bird and see if that clears it up. If you don't know how to do that, I think you best call Yuneec and let them walk you through the steps. Let me know what it was when you get back in the air........
My q5 is flashing green and purple. Someone said that it means follow me is on. Is this true?
+Member Of Auto Revolution CC Correct, it indicates you have GPS lock on your transmitter and follow me is activated.
+Drone Doctor can it be shut off ?
Only thing you can do is turn off the GPS but I wouldn't advise it. You should learn to fly in Angle mode and only use Smart mode if you need it. Take off and land in Angle and only switch to Smart if you get into trouble or want the follow me mode activated. Most accidents happen when people activate the Smart mode while the drone is too close to them and it wants to get away from you because you are too close to it. Stay in Angle and practice, practice practice. Just make sure you are in an open field so you don't run into stuff.
Can you tell me would you rather get the Q500 4k or the blade chroma cgo3 4k
+John Kavouras I wish it was an easy question to answer but you need to remember they are both built by Yuneec. The one thing I found out while testing them both is the difference in software. The Chroma unit I played with was pieced together with a transmitter purchased separately, the bird purchases separately, the camera separate and so on. The software in the Chroms's ST10+ only allowed me to change from follow me, watch me modes while on the ground, while the Q5 ST10+ allows for any flight mode changes as it is flying. Just for that reason, I would want the Q5....... Now someone told me they called Horizon Hobby and they said they can change the flight modes while the bird is in the air, but that isn't the case with the Chroma I tested. I am hoping to get another Chroma complete with the ST10+, camera and so on direct from Horizon soon so I will give you all an update on that. As for the firmware, it showed I was using the latest in that last test unit, but again, it was pieced together so I am hoping that had something to do with it......maybe. But remember, the Q5 package for around $1200 now comes with two batteries, the steady grip and the cheap aluminum travel case. At that price, it leaves you enough room to purchase a Minuteman Rotor On case!!!
+Drone Doctor Another question, I have noticed that the chroma and the Q500 4k use the same camera(cgo3), but the chroma has 16 megapixels and the Q500 only has 12 megapixels. Are there two different cameras?

+John Kavouras The Cgo3 cameras are the same. Horizon uses the outside edges of the frame so they claim 16 Meg pix while Yuneec only uses 12 cropping out the distorted areas on the outside of your image. If you shoot the 16 you will end up cropping out the distorted areas anyway bringing you more inline with 12 so kind of a marketing ploy in my opinion just to claim 16....... My explanation when I asked a long time ago was the areas on the outside are distorted and most will crop it, so why make it captured in the image? Same camera though in case you were wondering.........

I find follow me mode useless if you have to carry around a transmitter for it to work. Why do you want a drone to follow you while you walk around like that? I'm not about to pack the transmitter into a backpack to go for an MTB downhill run or windsurfing. Follow me is only practical if it can track a mobile device or similar GPS tag.
mintclint they sell a remote specifically for this option
