Hi Susan, I have known this tip for years, but it's a great one for new cooks/bakers or anyone who has never heard it. Thanks for sharing. I hope you have a great day.
One time my family and I went to a family reunion in Canada with our Canadian family and we gave our traditional dump cake recipe to our Aunt so she could make it while we were all there and unbeknownst to us, it didn't look right to her so she melted her butter and added more because there wasn't enough in her mind and it really wasn't good. We had to tell her later on (and she asked us when even she thought it didn't taste right) after everyone ate her new way of cooking it, that dump cakes are supposed to have many dry spots on top because they are way better that way, the dry spots is what makes it perfect and crunchy on top and throughout. Many people that are new to dump cake cooking don't know this, they think it looks undone. But that's actually the best part of the dump cake and the actual reason they were invented was the actual dry crunching parts on top...yummy!!
really??? we hate the dry spots! it taste like raw cake flour to us! hahaha isn't that crazy! thanks for mentioning that though, just in case some people may enjoy it better that way!!!

My pears are coming in and I make dump cake almost every week. I use lightly cooked pears. I measured once and it was about 42 oz. When you serve the dessert with vanilla ice cream or whipped topping, drizzle a little more caramel syrup on top. Yummm.

I like to melt all the butter mix it in a bowl with the cake mix then add it over top it is like a crumble topping and you don't get any raw bits then top it with the cinnamon sugar
I’ve made this many times and if no one with a nut allergy would be where I’m taking it, I add chopped pecans on top before putting the butter on. Turned out mighty good. I’ve made this using other pie fillings such as blueberry with a can of crushed pineapple mixed into the pie filling. Sometimes I get a little crazy in the kitchen.
oh that sounds so good!
