Running Iceland: Don't Run Up Mount Þorbjörn!

- The Reykjavík Grapevine's resident running enthusiast Jón Trausti Sigurðarson takes you on a run up Mount Þorbjörn - he even did it twice for videographer Art Bicnick to get the right shots.
NOTE: Jón and Art visited Mount Þorbjörn before the Blue Lagoon was closed, and before Civil Protection Authirities declared an emergency in the area and evacuated the town of Grindavík on November 10, 2023.
Standing 243 metres, Þorbjörn is a mountain on the Reykjanes peninsula overlooking the Blue Lagoon and the town of Grindavík.

Love the vids with Jón. I'd be stopping every few hundred meters to take a close look at the rock structures and take pictures.
Not even out of breath! More please. Great view from the top.
Fit as, looks spectacular. Love to you and all Icelanders
Thank you for showing what I WON'T be doing if I visit Iceland...! 🤪
Trust us, Jóndi doesn't get company on his runs from anyone else at Grapevine HQ 😆
Woah - awesome edit and view! The scramble through the 'tunnel' was unexpected.
Glad you liked it!
You and whoever is running with you are brilliant! THANKS
Good video. Everyone is on the edge of their seats waiting to see what the magma under the peninsula is going to do. 🙂 Keep those cameras in the region. Keep safe. Thank you.
That is awesome, on my list for trail running
You are amazing brother!! I would have stopped about 200 ft from the start! ❤❤❤❤❤
Thanks for the video. In my younger days I would have run straight up the mountain.
A true Scandinavian - wearing shorts in November!
Hahaha, have you ever met someone from Michigan? WE will wear shorts in November STILL!
Beautiful views thanks for the video..💛🇺🇲🇨🇦💛🏃♂️
Thanks Jon and Art. Another great video. The run through the volcanic fissure was interesting. I wonder how long ago the mountain formed. It must have been before the eruptions 800 years ago. It looks like it's in the middle of the current magma dome.
It formed during the last Ice Age according to our information.
Keep these videos coming! Thanks Jòn and Art!
Good drone footage too
Hahahha ...Inovative concept of producing a video :)Keep up the cool stuff ;) 💪👍
Looks like a good run
Very cool! When the area opens back up I’d love to try that.
Good morning, Jon! I just got back from a run as well, though my run didn’t involve a mountain. Nice work! 😃
Nice! Something I hope to do when I visit Iceland next year.
Great video. Thanks Jon and Art. Now I know what the top of the hill that has the live cameras on looks like.
Art... Art? .. Are you okay after that? 😂
Great video, beautiful view
The terrain is fascinating
Sure the runner was having fun. However, the camera operators had the tougher job keeping up. Good job!
While they sit below....and operate the drone? 🤣
Art walked up the mountain once, but he made poor Jón run up and down twice to get all the shots he needed 😆
@@TheReykjavikGrapevine 🤣🤣🤣 Frábært!🤣🤣🤣
Jon may have had to run up twice, but it looked like Art was running backwards :)
Another great video guys.
Valur and Polly are a hard act to follow but you are doing a good job of continuing the programs Jon. Thanks for sharing Iceland with us!
Did Art make that run with you....? Enjoying his photography as usual.
Looks like another planet 👍
I just love Icelandic humour!
Jogging uphill? 👀 "I'm gonna be so co-old" 😂
Dude you are crazy to run on that low cold conditions 😂 Im even scared to go outside to work on cold . 😅 Hi from Macedonia
Poor camera guy! Like the American joke... [ballroom dancer] Ginger Rogers did everything Fred Astaire did, but backwards, in heels.
It's risky to be standing on a dirt road and not brush the bottom of your socks off before you put your shoes on.
Great uphill run!
Would it be possible to know the brand/type of glasses Jón are wearing? They look classy!
Hope you're all alright. I just heard that the volcano blew.
Love the music! Who are the artists? 😎☮
Hey Jón, hope everything is fine with you! Hoping for an update from you 😊
Working on it!
Are you running with a drone or a camera guy? Lol
Both. 😉
Now, what's the name of that song, please?
Jón, I hear there a many crypto miners in the volcano zone that may be affected in an eruption. I would love to hear a report on what's happening!
I realize that the Spaniards have also already been in Iceland: ¡Adiós!
Thanking you for allowing us to enjoy your run and scenery of this wonderful place - cheers from Down Under 🇦🇺👍💪🩴🦘🌋
Posting a random comment....
FOR THE ALGORITHM!!!! ❤
Don’t run and he runs 🤦🏻
What is this
You should of mooned Live From Iceland while you where you where up there.
How can you be so cold with that pro running gear! 😊 Very nice. Such a great area. ❤
The second I let my eye off the volcano... a new fissure opens
