I saw ALIEN on Saturday, May 26th 1979 the second day of its release. The theatre was packed, and the movie was unbelievable! Audiences had never seen anything like ALIEN before, and we were screaming and jumping out of our seats!!! I will never forget it!

One of my top ten favorite movies ever. I saw it in the theater in 1979 at the ripe old age of 13. Alien was my first R-rated movie and it was the first of its kind. Trailers didn’t give the whole movie away like they do nowadays so we had no idea what we were going to see. Our tiny little brains were dried raisins by the time we left the theater. Blown. Away. No other movie before or since has had such an impact on me.

Where did you see it in the US?
I saw it back in 1980 in Australia when I was 11 yrs old.
The scifi horror masterpiece that all others are compared to today !

I was 18 when I saw this in our small town's theater. There were about 150 other terrified people in there with me. We had never seen anything like this film at the time. During a couple of those more notable scenes, people actually fled the theater - some in tears.
LOL when the air duct jumpscare happened popcorn and soda flew everywhere all over the theater, I remember it all clearly.
-And yes; we must always save our critters, for they are as dependent upon us as our children and even more innocent.

I was five when it came out. I was eight or nine when I watched it at a friend's house on VHS. He also had the novelization...his dad was a fan.
    And I still am.
One of the greatest horror films ever made!

The sequel Aliens, is really good too. The usual debate with fans regards which of first two is best. Personally, I like one the best. With out it there wouldn't have been any others.

Fun fact: the actors were not informed what will happen when the alien comes out of Kane´s chest. They had to leave the set until the scene was prepared, so their reaction is genuine.

Ripley is the toughest woman in a film of that time, which no one asked for, but which we all love and remember because she is the ultimate survivor, without abandoning her femininity and, to top it off, truthful in her actions. A true empowered woman.

Really enjoying your movie reactions. It reminds me of when you first started reacting to music.
    Edit: Yes please, do Aliens.

"It's got a great defense mechanism... you don't dare kill it..."
Classic sci-fi horror. The tension is so thick, you will need a sharp steak knife in order to cut it.
The voice of "Mother" is so iconic, in my honest opinion. There's something unnerving about a cold feminine voice counting down to your death. It wasn't until GLaDOS that we rediscovered that a computerized female voice can be absolutely creepy.
Fun Fact: In H.R. Giger's original illustrations that inspired the look of the Alien, the creature had eyes. For the movie, Giger insisted that the creature have no eyes, thus giving the bleak appearance of a cold and emotionless beast that hunts by smell.
Real Guts Fact: The dead facehugger that Ash (Ian Holm) autopsies was made using fresh shellfish, four oysters, and a sheep kidney to re-create the internal organs. Filming had to be done quickly because the organic material would go bad very fast under the studio lights.
Bloody Solution Fact: It was conceptual artist Ron Cobb who came up with the idea that the Alien should bleed acid. This came about when Dan O'Bannon ran into a wall with the screenplay on how to handle the last half of the movie. He needed a good reason for why the crew members don't just shoot the thing and kill it but still not make it an indestructible monster that can't be killed. The acid blood was the idea that solved this problem.

I saw this when I was a kid. It came on HBO and it scared the crap out of me :-). I'd never seen a horror/sci fi movie before- until then, it was either/or. The combination made it one of the best movies of its time. PLEASE review the sequel Aliens as soon as you can- I loved that one too

The sequel is generally more popular than the first one. The second alien(s) movie is action sci-fi.

How'd I feel when I first watched ALIEN? I had to watch it from the back of the theater, near the lobby doors in case I had to make a quick exit! I'm not a horror fan but I am definitely a sci-fi fan and this movie is at the top of my fave list.

I first saw Alien on the big screen as a high-schooler in 1979 when it was first released. It scared the crap out of me. Seriously, it left me with occasional nightmares for years to come. The film’s combination of realistic practical horror effects, with subliminal erotic imagery, intended to heighten the nervous system’s fear reaction, are done masterfully by director Ridley Scott, and Art Director H.R. Giger.

I was not quite old enough to see this in the theatre when it first came out. Saw it on VHS sometime in the mid 80s.

I saw the sequel, Aliens, before I even knew this one existed when I was a kid and it's one of my fav movies of all time. That said, when I discovered Alien I loved it too on it's own merits. Two different genres of movie for sure, but Ripley's story is solid the whole way through. So excited for you to see the next one, I recommend the special edition (they cut it for time against the directors intentions). "It's like 40 miles of bad road", suspenseful masterpiece.

Don't forget to get the "special edition/director's cut" for its sequel ALIENS (1986) which is even better and as scary and stressful than the first one

For me. It was hard because I kind of watched it backwards. See I never knew about this movie until one of my sister's boyfriends was watching Alien Vs Predator and it shook me for a while. Until I went to check it out for the first time. It scared me. I had a hard look at the whole face huggers and those creeped me out. I actually had nightmare about it, but I got over it. I was jumpy but I honestly liked it. I like it better as an adult now being able to understand it. I liked it. I prefer Aliens over this one. But it's a good start.

    H. R. GIGER art, this distinctive stylistic innovation as that of a representation of human bodies and machines in cold, interconnected relationships, which he describes as BIOMECHANICA. The movie ALIEN is everything and beyond. The Xenomorph family in the Alien franchise are sexualized creatures. The face hugging creature impregnates both men and women by forcing its proboscis down the throat of its victim, laying an egg in the chest of the unwilling host. And the Xenomorph itself has a phallic appearing shape and head structure, and it shoots acid from its mouth. The penetrating outburst from the male torso is a filmatic and narrative climax. All of these magnificent components and phenomenons comes together in Sigourney Weaver's persona; RIPLEY. Sigourney is the very best actress ever, presenting both human intelligence and the strong will to survive. I believe Alien is my favourite film as it gives the viewer both horror and science fiction. It is exceptionally well made, in a time when everything is possible. I grew up with Giger's art, and the symbolism of his artificial biomechanism is both terrifying and liberating. It's all we need; DARK ART. And by the way; your reaction video is Absolutely Fabulous! Thanx for sharing. Such a Treat. 🖤

This is a very classic movie and only in its right that the directors cut is played , the theatre cut ,that spared the American of the extras ,not so sure why and i also think a good extra ten minutes of your thoughts would have been good ,just my opinion as i believe 25 mns is a bit to short to explain this movie which is a classic.
ps i have a man cave of books ,to h,r giger who made the alien to the books and figures plastered over the walls and paintings.
