Hey Jesse, I hate to be *that* person, but the wobbly text effect is not at all epilepsy friendly and it very nearly gave me a seizure. I would appreciate if you used something different in the future! Super excited to pick up some of these duologies.
@@tasjidlemvruce8572 well I wanted to start to trilogy but my friends talked about the end of the third book... so I've never started it and I don't plan on doing so from what I've heard 🤣

In my opinion, I don’t really gravitate towards a story because it’s a series or duology. Like UGLIES, I HATE that series- like with a passion. But Red Queen? I loved that series, and can’t wait for Broken Throne. So, as long as the writing style is nice ( i’m picky about that) and the characters are interesting and the plot is interesting, then i’m down for whatever it is, whether it be a duology or series😁
OMG have you heard of michael vey by richerd paul evans there's 7 books series it's kida like xman but way more fun I'm half way through the 2nd but I'm thinking rereading them beaches I got busy
i’m late but i totally recommend the mysterious benedict society! it’s AMAZING the synopsis on the back definitely doesn’t do it the justice that it deserves
I've got the same issue with prolonged series like The mortal instruments and the Heroes of Olympus or Percy Jackson's( never read the last book in either) even Throne of Glass ( don't get me wrong I love large plot parts of the ToG series I just wish I didn't stretch so much ) as for Duologies I've only had the pleasure of reading Six of Crows but I'll try some more for sure.
I think that you got all the important points down and I agree with all most all of them 😉 Thank you I always enjoy your videos!!! Also I've bin enjoying all of your new video ideas and can't wait to see what else you come up with 😁

Ok, I just got to the start of the discussion and I’d like to preface by saying I didn’t even know duologies were a thing before this video! I have read my fair share of trilogies, and I have definitely read sooooooo many series of four or more books, so it was interesting to hear about duologies. I do prefer trilogies though (the logical “beginning, middle, end” storywriting part of my brain really likes trilogies for this) but I like the challenge of condensing a story into only two books. Thank you for enlightening me!
6:38 "A seven book series where 1-6 each leave you on a cliffhanger that keep you up at night" _did you mean_ Keeper of the Lost Cities? No but seriously, IT'S BEEN HAPPENING FOR LIKE SEVEN BOOKS AND IT'S A NINE BOOK SERIES ;-;
I’ve been telling everyone about how much I love duologies for so long and I totally agree with everything you said!!! I just really love the flow because trilogies often have similarities and I always lose interest when series are too long
I love the format of this video! I love the 'alternative you' idea, it's cool and add a different flavor in the video. I'm loving your recent vids even more than your previous works and I ADORED them. I agree with you in a lot of points. I'm not a big fan of trilogies because of those syndroms (love the names and underlined shade on Allegiant lol). I love series but definitely agree on the commitment part, though. I wasn't a problem for me when I was younger but now I barely have time or will to read even a standalone and I haven't picked up a new series since... Dang I don't even remember. But duologies are my life-savers. I'm currently reading Our Dark Duet and I mean it's Victoria Schwab of course it's good but the characters?? Siblings dynamic?? Complete trash for that That outro makes me lowkey cry inside every time it just hits my heart thank you for giving us hope every week
I really love series. I read a lot of books and really get invested into the stories. I know that some stories are wonderful in shorter form but I really love series and even the anticipation of waiting for the next book.
I totally agree with you! When I was younger I was all about reading loooong series, but right now either read stand-alones or duologies! I don't even have the patience to wait for the third book of a trilogy to come out anymore lol.
Unearthed was incredible! It's like an Indiana Jones movie but on an alien planet. And yes, you definitely need Undying the second you end Unearthed because it ends with massive cliffhangers and twists. And one nice thing the authors do at the beginning of Undying is give a summary of what happened in Unearthed (which more authors should do).
For me, it really does depend on the book and the situation. I'm more likely to pick up a standalone because then I don't have to worry about tracking down the next book, but sometimes I just want more. In the end, as long as the book was good I'm not complaining.
I like duologies. Tamara Pierce's Trickers duology is really good. Also have a few sitting on my shelf - Crown Duel and Court Duel by Sherwood Smith, East and West by Edith Pattou (the sequel is new), and Cerulean by Amy Ewing which is the first of a duology that just came out.
I agree! I am a fan of the duologies! I like to re-read books and I find that I am more likely to re-read duo rather than a series or trilogy. They also seem to keep a better pace rather than stretch the story out. Passenger and Wayfarer are a perfect example of how a duology should play out - even though I would LOVE to read more about Etta and Nicholas!
I understand the commitment argument. I started reading the mortal instruments in January and now I've finished that series, the infernal devices and the Magnus bane chronicles and there are still five books left. I really like the entire world of the Shadowhunters and all the books, but it just takes so much time and commitment to read all of them. Personally I have never read a duology but it sounds really nice to be done reading a series in one or maybe two weeks.
I'm so glad to see a video on this! I definitely agree and hope that there will be more duologies coming out! It's the perfect length for me for the average series
I’m terrible with any kind of series/duologies lol I’m trash at remembering what happened in the previous books, but thats really every book for me ahaha
I am completely agreeing about the series section... I can binge a series in around 4 days BUT I still forget everything when I reach the last book. That being said, Trilogies have a special place in my heart (aka Angelfall 😍) I feel as though they take a day or two to read and they give you enough so when you set the books down your not feeling as though you’re missing out on something big that was meant to occur. That’s just my personal preference. (wow look at little 12 year old me using my discussion language) I do love duoligies though :))
3:06 Magnus Chase and Trials of Apollo are 2 different series. Okay? 3:33 Now the heroes of Olympus are added? 3 does not equal 1. Just take out the Mortal Instruments’ amount of books. 5:21 The Kane Chronicles are an amazing exception, along with the Jinx Trilogy
cant agree more with the book series issue! my favorite book series is Skulduggery Pleasant (and its deadass 11 books long minus short story and novella, the 12th comes out in june) and sometimes there are those characters that comes out of nowhere you just dont remember them! thank lord the storyline is fascinating and the characters are really interesting and unique i can bear with it
It's weird that you'd do a video about duologies with The Call, by Peadar O'Guilin, right behind you, and not even mention it XD I love duologies too, sometimes it really brings something new. I wasn't sold on Anna Dressed in Blood's sequel but The Invasion (sequel to the Call)? Yep, loved it! I've also read and loved This Savage Song and Six of Crows, so I will be reading Out Dark Duet and Crooked Kingdom very soon :) The third book Tragedy that disappointed me the most, though, was The Strain. The first one was good, second one wasn't bad either but the third took a completely different route and left me very unimpressed. And I don't read series anymore. More than three, maybe four? I'm out. Too much time, too much money and the last ones I read, the quality kept plumetting, it was becoming a chore but I just couldn't give up without knowing how it ended. Not committing myself like that again.
I can’t remember the last time I read a duology, but I’m currently writing a book and am trying to write it as two books so I don’t add needless filler in it like some series tend to do. I might have to pick up a few of these books now.
I haven't read much duologies so far, but I think I'll like them. Actually, my childhood favourite happens to be a (sort of) Duology. It's called 'The letter for the king'and the second book is 'The secret of the wild woods. They're both by Dutch writer Tonke Dragt, written in 1960ish but ... translated into English in 2012ish. If you haven't read them yet, I highly recommend them!
Wow I normally never write comments but I just realized how much effort you put into this video... The special effects and the jokes and the different camera angles... I love it! You are by far my favorite channel on this platform... I hope you will never stop making videos hihi... (Sorry for spelling mistakes I'm from Germany)...
The local bookstore where I live sucks at selling duologies, like, "Hey check out this book unearthed, it's super cool. Where's the sequel you ask? Pfft nah.. have fun finding them on earth!"
I have a few book recommendations that I think are great and are some of my favorites. A good series is the poison study series by Maria V Snyder, it was a trilogy for a very long time, so you could just read the first three if you want to. A series that always comes out with a book once a year consistently is the Mercy Thompson series by Patricia Briggs, it’s paranormal, but really good. I definitely recommend both. But you don’t have to read them if you don’t want to.
I agree with you about duologies! I prefer to read as many worlds as possible and so duologies mean I get more than just 1 book, but I don't have to commit to anything longer. I'm a slow reader and I really have to want to invest in a series in order to read past the first.
Unearthed does sound intresting and I met to get around to it in 2018. I hope to read this duelogy this year! I can love series if I love the characters and plot enough to continue. But otherwise duelogy are nice.
I haven't read that many duologies, but the ones I have read I have mixed emotions about. If the entire story is done well in both books and everything ends up nicely, then they're really enjoyable. But sometimes a story is either too big or too short for two books and I end up getting frustrated. But I agree with everything you said, thanks for another fun video Jesse!
I think the only duology (I might be wrong) I've ever read is the Storybound/Story's End duology. It's a really fun middle grade fantasy where fictional characters have their own world that they go to after their book is finished. Interesting thoughts! As a writer, this is helpful.
I saw yours and Ellias' videos from my buddy StoryGlyph. I prefer series because I love having a journey. I just hope that after I finish a trilogy/quadrology/duology/series is that there is not like another book like eons of years later. I would rather have that as a part of a separate series. I treat non-stand alones like TV series where you have to wait for the next book like it's the next season. I will now watch Ellias' DNF'd duologies.
I don’t love either one more than the other, but I was super excited when duologies started making waves. I have no idea why, but they’re a nice change of pace from long series or trilogies
I like them all! duologies, trilogies, series, you name it, I’m gonna fall in love with it (if they’re good) no matter what! I don’t have a preference as to which I like the best because books are what I live for! I have the opportunity to eat ‘em all up and enjoy, especially if they’re from an all time favorite author, and amazingly amazing!!! #blessed
I personally feel trilogies are my favourite, because they serve the same beginning-middle-end arc each individual book has and to me that’s perfect! But I really do love a good duology, they’re usually more concise also cheaper! Also, they’re actually a good thing for authors. Standalone don’t typically hold as much attention as a series so a duology is perfect
Not a duology but I recommend the Vega Jane series! The Finisher is book one. The Keeper is book two. I'm almost done reading the third book which is The Width of the World. I thought it was a trilogy but the fourth book called The Stars Below comes out this year and I'm so excited for it!!
I was never this early on a video. your content this year is FIRE. I saw every single video and I'm always waiting for you to post. Much much love and congrats for this creative and diverse content
I agree!! I love duologies! A particular favourite is running girl and its sequel kid got shot by Simon Mason! A Fantastic mystery drama type that I ate in three days!
Have you ever read Tracked or Marked by Jenny Martin? It's a really good duology that involves race car driving in a sci-fi world (?). I read it about three years ago, so I'm not sure if it's a sci-fi world or just futuristic. Also, I've just recently been watching your videos, and I've really enjoyed them. Thank you for being your quirky self. 😁❤
Personally, I prefer trilogies because you get more books to read and you form that strong bond with the characters and they become like a family to you though don’t get me started on the emotional reck that follows once you’ve finished a trilogy. And I know you always or most of the time form a bond with the characters and you feel close to them but in trilogies you get to spend more time with them which only makes saying goodbye harder. As for the the third book being a bummer... Well, it could also happen with duologues so it really depends on the author and I tend to only complete trilogies so I don’t have to do the waiting and the same goes for series but sometime they just drag if you get what I mean . . . Your videos are amazing! Keep it up! :)
I respect that you say what you mean, but, if you read a trilogie and all the books are small while the duologie that you read is like a two bricks... well the word count is most likely to tip in the trilogie's favor, however, it would be close. If the second book wasn't stellar like the first or even the third book, you wasted time on the second book. My point is you wouldn't waste as much time with a duologie or even a stand-alone. I hope you know I'm just teasing a little bit 😉 also depending on how the author presents his/ her characters, I can be more emotionally attached to them, then to characters that I have known longer. I guess it just depends on how skilled the author is. I'm not going to argue the point of the last book being a bummer, becaus that I agree with. Ones again, my goal was not to offend you in any sort of way, just to have some fun. Of course these are all my personal opinions. 😁 if you did read this I hope you had as much fun reading this as I did writing it! A complete stranger, JJ
*thank you so much for having a silent duology word counter thingie. when people add that annoying ding every time a tracked word is said i lose my FuCkInG mind*
The only duaology I've read is a dogs purpose and a dogs journey and the second one is also getting a movie this year! I've also read "you" yes that popular Netflix series and it has another book that I haven't read yet. Series can be long like the pretty little liars series which has 18 books which I plan to reread this year
I think I prefer stand alones or series. But I don’t even know if I’ve read any duologies. And then any trilogies I’ve tried I don’t really like. I love most classics, The Queen’s Thief series, the Lunar Chronicles, and the Wrinkle in Time series. So if anyone has any suggestions for duologies/trilogies I should try, let me know. 😊
I think everyone should try the Six of Crows duology, and as for trilogies, I had a hard time thinking of some (since most of them end up being added on to). If you like fantasy, you could try the Nightshade trilogy by Andrea Cremer, as well as the Intertwined trilogy by Gena Showalter. As for some more popular ones, The Infernal Devices Trilogy (tbh the only books by Cassandra Clare I can stand) and A Court of Thorns and Roses trilogy (there’s a novella now and there’s going to be spinoff books, but I still consider it a trilogy). Hope this helps
I didn't know Unearthed was a duology. I haven't got to reading it yet, and I thought it was going to be a big commitment (like three books) but if it's only two, then maybe it won't be putting a whole lot of stress on my TBR.
i mostly love long book series or trilogies. only problem with long series is that they take up so much room on my shelves.... one series i own is at least 70 books long - and still ongoing - and takes up half of my shelf!
"Did I have lunch?" A question I ask myself every time I'm binge reading and forget to eat 😂
hahahaha
I relate to this a lot
Relatable!!!!! :)

I love duologies too, sometimes it really brings something new. I wasn't sold on Anna Dressed in Blood's sequel but The Invasion (sequel to the Call)? Yep, loved it!
I've also read and loved This Savage Song and Six of Crows, so I will be reading Out Dark Duet and Crooked Kingdom very soon :)
The third book Tragedy that disappointed me the most, though, was The Strain.
I like Standalones but I’ve been reading a lot of first books in series lately, Grim Lovelies, Shadow of the Fox, Children of Blood and Bone, etc.
I’m currently reading six of crows (for the first time) and imma see what I think about Duologies. I’m loving it so far. 🖤
Your edition is so incredible, I love it !
Yes please. Loving your videos more and more jesse 💕
#blessed
Really excited about this video because the book I’m writing is going to be a duology!!!
3:23 I once finished a 5 book series in 3 days 😜 (Story Thieves by James Riley)
Have you heard of the Wolf by Wolf duology? It's one of my favorites of all time!
I was never this early on a video.
your content this year is FIRE. I saw every single video and I'm always waiting for you to post. Much much love and congrats for this creative and diverse content
thanks so much! also might i just say that your username and profile picture make me so happy? it's so bright and nice. :) have a good day!
@@jessethereader awww, thank you. I am glad I could put a smile on your face :)
I agree!! I love duologies! A particular favourite is running girl and its sequel kid got shot by Simon Mason! A Fantastic mystery drama type that I ate in three days!
Ooof you should definitely read Heroes of Olympus right now!! It's my favourite series!
Good points from you, especially when I have waisted my time this year reading 💩 series. Duologies rock! 🤘🏻😄
I’m getting through HoO now, and its taking me longer than I wanted it too but its so good, you can do it Jesse, read HoO😘
Well, it could also happen with duologues so it really depends on the author and I tend to only complete trilogies so I don’t have to do the waiting and the same goes for series but sometime they just drag if you get what I mean

A complete stranger,
JJ
*thank you so much for having a silent duology word counter thingie. when people add that annoying ding every time a tracked word is said i lose my FuCkInG mind*
3:34 read them, and you'll understand
I'm onto finishing Percy Jackson series and maybe we can buddy read Heroes of Olympus series afterwards 😁😁
The only duaology I've read is a dogs purpose and a dogs journey and the second one is also getting a movie this year! I've also read "you" yes that popular Netflix series and it has another book that I haven't read yet.
Series can be long like the pretty little liars series which has 18 books which I plan to reread this year
Loving the frequent uploads
trying my best over here. glad you're enjoying them!
TheBirdofInferno the hunger games trilogy
4:30 yes. But I’ve read them 3 times, and you should too.
i mostly love long book series or trilogies. only problem with long series is that they take up so much room on my shelves.... one series i own is at least 70 books long - and still ongoing - and takes up half of my shelf!
Oh my God, two days in a row that Jesse uploaded. I am happy :)
Duology recommendation. House of the scorpion. Pretty epic. My faves of all time tbh.
